2019 Around the MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Padres drew 30K plus on home game #2

In case anyone was wondering.

Makes sense, fans are excited about big moves made this offseason.

That must be it.

The Indians drew half that coming off their World Series appearance.

I guess the hype of offseason moves are more effective than being one run away from winning the championship. Except when the Indians make an offseason move, like signing a legit middle of the lineup hitter after that World Series appearance, that doesn’t move the needle either.

If Edwin was "legit" then is Machado the GOAT?

A Friday in April in San Diego also sounds like a better setting to see a baseball game than a Wednesday in April in Cleveland.

Edwin was coming off a .260/42/127 All-Star season when he was signed.

While in hindsight it’s best to marginalize the addition, or point to his decline (some which was anticipated), you’re detailing why San Diego can attract and sustain a higher payroll while Cleveland can not.

They’re fan base will show up, regardless of circumstance, when competitive.

Cleveland’s will largely be stagnant.

Their fan base gets to enjoy an MVP candidate for the rest of his career.

Meanwhile Cleveland remains a farm system for the East and West Coast markets.

"Enjoy him while you have him"

The defining sentence of Dolan's ownership.

He can opt out the season after Lindor will leave as a free agent, but that’s not the point.

I’m simply showing you why the comparison is absurd, San Diego and other teams have the competitive advantage of having a fan base that can support signing an MVP caliber player.

Cleveland can, but refuses. Instead just hiding behind an irrational hatred of the guy who owns the team, whining about not spending when they don’t show up to support the team regardless of who they sign.

As evidenced by going to the World Series, signing a 40 HR hitting All Star right handed bat, and drawing jack shit in attendance.

We don't know? We've never signed an MVP caliber player. The Edwin signing is never going to be the example you want it to be.

Wait now the Edwin signing wasn’t legit?! Why the hell do you people keep making me go back to defending ownership? Get out of here with that dumbass take.

Yeah, he was just a 40HR All-Star in the Top 15 on MVP ballots in each of the last two years before he signed.

We should stop pretending he was an All Star MVP candidate like Machado, who hit 40 HRs and hasn’t finished in the Top 15 in MVP voting in either of the last two seasons.

This is fast becoming an example of fans saying absurd shit to avoid acknowleding the obvious, being amongst a generally terrible fan base who irrationally refuses to support a team.

Your schtick is really tiresome. The fanbase in Cleveland isn't ideal--a mixture of economics, Downtown Cleveland's small population, and yes, relative apathy compared to the Browns makes it far from perfect--but whose fault is it that they negotiated a shitty TV deal? Tampa, with way less fans, has an annual income of $80 million in revenue from their local TV deal. The Indians have been top 5 in TV ratings for the past few seasons, and are getting half of that in annual revenue from their contract with Fox Sports. Is it the fans fault that Silver Spoon Dolan negotiated an awful deal? With the deal set to expire in a few seasons, you'd think they could invest the $ from the new deal--which given the precedent from recent deals will be quite lucrative-- into the payroll during a window of contention. Nope, instead we get cries of losing money from Dolan, even though the league is more profitable than ever, and the Indians, like every other team, refuse to open their books. Where is the ASG $ going? What about the revenue sharing from the league's new TV deal and MGM cash? According to your logic, that's not worth inquiring about. Just blame attendance for everything and pray that Paul Dolan doesn't have to eat peanut butter and mayo sandwiches because those terrible fans won't reciprocate his generosity.

Shitty fans don’t support good teams, it’s really that simple.

I don’t need to engage with your standard ad hominem nonsense much further than this.

Its obvious that the Padres draw better than the Indians do early in the season. Nicer weather and SD doesn’t have two other Sports franchise to compete with.
Let’s bring this topic back up in August.
