2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The D-Line is already scary.

McCoy would make it transcendent.

It would need its own nickname.

I just can’t allow myself to get excited. I can’t handle the let down. Even the favorite would be less than 50% chance, so I refuse to expose myself to the possible disappointment.

Because fuck. With McCoy in the middle, we become a whole new level of terrifying.

I wonder what type of contract he is looking for. It will be less than his previous one of course.

I am unsure if the Indy rumor makes sense for them. Aren’t they almost fully committed to building through the draft?

I mean, the guy is a model football player off of the field as well. Seems like a guy who “slipped” last year because he was playing for a shitty team - and wasn’t his pressure rate still great and he led them in sacks (6.5?)?

To the capologists, do you HAVE TO amortize the signing boner? Like if we have extra room now but want more flexibility later, can we take a $15M boner against our cap this year?

What other ways could you structure this? We talk about DT passing disruption as becoming more and more important. Could we go $40M guaranteed over 4 years? Is that too high/low?

Is there a new provision in the CBA I'm unaware of?? It appears someone is really excited about this potential signing. Also, how many times do you have to type boner for your phone to start auto correcting to it?? :chuckle::chuckle:

We do not have any cap space this year. Anything we sign we're already using rollover cap.

Cap is around 188 million. We already have 211 million locked up this year.

We add 56 million in rollover.

That gets us to having about 33 million left. It's all rollover at this point.

Exactly, which is why signing McCoy really would be an all in shove. I for one will be mildly surprised if they do it, but I sure won't complain if they do.

It’s like the bullshit whisperer.

Signing boner
Extra innings? That’s boner baseball.
Did well at work? Performance boner.

FYI - @Out of the Rafters at the Q @thedarkness2332 @FiveThous

I saw a DVOA conversation a few pages ago. I think you guys may be misunderstanding what it is and how it is measured.

DVOA is a regression that looks at how given plays effect the odds of winning, over time, and then applies those results as predictive weights.

Because of how it functions, it is great at analyzing holistic results, and cross-positional value. A difference in DVOA within a position, however, is mildly less descriptive. It shows you, quite literally, who the most efficient players are at each position, but it does not have a direct relationship on who is contributing most to winning.

So, in many ways, DVOA is parallel to RPM. They analyze the same thing, but, they are valuable in opposite ways.

Also, as someone mentioned, NFL is hard to evaluate, because the sample is incredibly small and you have twenty-two players playing at once. This further adds to why DVOA is better at analyzing across positions then within positions.

I also think Jarvis is mildly overrated. But that’s mainly because I do not actually find slot receivers that important. Nonetheless, Jarvis is one of the best slot receivers in the NFL, and he was playing way out of position last season. I’ll be excited to see how he performs this year.

It’s a bit of a balance. Slot receivers might be more overrated on other teams but with OBJ’s gravity, it could make Landry a move-the-chains machine.

So many things in football are inter-related. That’s what makes the sport so interesting - it feels like it can be figured out, and then some team projected to have 5 wins has 12.

Realistically I think Jarvis should be paid right in the range of Edelman...

We’ll see the numbers soon enough.
I don't think they're in the same ballpark. Landry has basically done what Edelman has in his entire career in half the time.

Julian Edelman:
32 years old
9 NFL seasons
499 career receptions
5390 yards
10.8 yards per reception

Jarvis Landry:
26 years old
5 NFL seasons
4 Pro Bowls
481 career receptions
5014 yards
10.4 yards per reception

Age alone dictates the contract disparity, let alone health and productivity.

Edelman had 850 yards and 73 receptions last year in the slot. Jarvis is going to be down in production and I feel his numbers might be similar this year. Based upon age of the deal and age of the players Jarvis might be a 1-2 mill a year over pay.

Basically those screaming about overpay of Jarvis really don't realize the value of a top 5 slot receiver which obviously both are.

In the end, Edelman just proved Landry's worth and if Landry is getting overpaid, its not by a ton.

Brown OL Austin Corbett opened OTAs at right guard.
That was the expectation after the Browns traded Kevin Zeitler to the Giants. A 2018 second-round pick, Corbett played just 14 snaps on offense as a rookie, but the Browns are relying on him to step up as a sophomore. While the roster looks great overall, the offensive line, especially left tackle and right guard, is an area of concern for the Browns.

Headline has a racist undertone; they’re lucky he’s not actually brown.

Disclaimer: not being really srs

Dude I am thinking about a bill to put in front of the net enforcement panel whereby the penalty for not doing this in the next 30 days is that you have to defend Ja Rule’s rap prowess and maybe even personal character instead.

It is a severe penalty. I hesitate to put that on you. Ja. Rule.
