2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Brown OL Austin Corbett opened OTAs at right guard.
That was the expectation after the Browns traded Kevin Zeitler to the Giants. A 2018 second-round pick, Corbett played just 14 snaps on offense as a rookie, but the Browns are relying on him to step up as a sophomore. While the roster looks great overall, the offensive line, especially left tackle and right guard, is an area of concern for the Browns.
14 Snaps? That’s it? What/why?

I don't think they're in the same ballpark. Landry has basically done what Edelman has in his entire career in half the time.

Julian Edelman:
32 years old
9 NFL seasons
499 career receptions
5390 yards
10.8 yards per reception

Jarvis Landry:
26 years old
5 NFL seasons
4 Pro Bowls
481 career receptions
5014 yards
10.4 yards per reception

Age alone dictates the contract disparity, let alone health and productivity.

I don’t disagree.

Just ball park range 9 M for Edelman a year and 13 for Jarvis seems about right.

Those stats are bullshit though. Picking between wanting to have Edelman or Jarvis on your team this year age aside is a toss up.

No shoulders. His upper body is missing. It’s like someone let his legs go to the buffet but his shoulders were featured on TV to be sponsored for $.50/day. Every day must be a leg day, keeping that shit sore like me jigs and the d-trés.

I have a hard time ranking Edelman a top-5 slot guy in the NFL. Even though the slot role is almost a misnomer nowadays since the slot guy usually runs a full route tree and we see tons of first options running half their routes out of the slot position, lets stick with the traditional slot role for this discussion.

Landry, Tate and Kupp seem to be the elite first class to me. Landry and Tate are better at the small area quickness whip your body around routes that the traditional slot calls for, but Kupp is no slouch there and he's a freak in that Rams offense. Then it's a bit muddier, and I have no problem if anyone wants to argue for Edelman being next. I know they're young, but I think guys like Keke Coutee, Dede Westbrook, Sterling Shepard, and Dante Pettis are all better than Edelman at this point as well. If you let me cheat and use outside guys who still run the majority of their routes from the slot then guys like Theilen and Juju are obviously head and shoulders above the rest of the group.

Take Edelman away from Tom Brady and try to rank him. It's not simple.

I am not saying that Edelman is a poor player. He isn't. You are correct in that he's damn good at what he does. I do have him in my Top 5 slot receivers.

In fact, you know he is good or New England of all places wouldn't worry about floating him that kind of money to stay at 32 years old. Extending veterans is the opposite of their normal course of action.

Tyrell Williams just got 4 years, $44 million with $22 million guaranteed. Adam Humphries got 4 years, $36 million with $19 million guaranteed.

Both of those players have had their moments, especially Williams, but neither are anywhere close to the quality player that Landry and Edelman are.

I look around and think this is actually a hometown discount from Edelman because he wants to stay. On the open market, he may command more--even at 32--with the way these teams are starting to spend and the rising cap.

I think he could've been in that $11/12 million/year range. Probably could've matched Humphries' guaranteed money, even at his age.

Jarvis is younger, better, and probably more explosive after the catch given his ability to break tackles.

One year from today, we might look at Jarvis' contract, and say that's just about right.

I think Landry’s deal is perfect considering what Edelman got.

Like you said, he’s younger - wouldn’t argue he’s better - more explosive and does things for this team that have helped turn around our culture.

Some asshole on Reddit is claiming Cleveland is getting the 2021 NFL Draft. Jives with May Kay saying Browns are optimistic. Would be freaking sick. I am not sure where you would hold it though. Could be a few hundred thousand people. The Q seems too small. Public Square has the bus traffic.

He and Larry-O are very tight.

This is what this is about. He's looking after a buddy.

I just think the position is good to be 3 strong at. Snap count & injuries.

I guess since we will see MG slide inside on some passing downs, I can understand why the juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze... BUT the possibility is pretty exciting if it happens.

I guess Dustin Fox claims we're the frontrunners for McCoy
