I am not saying that Edelman is a poor player. He isn't. You are correct in that he's damn good at what he does. I do have him in my Top 5 slot receivers.
In fact, you know he is good or New England of all places wouldn't worry about floating him that kind of money to stay at 32 years old. Extending veterans is the opposite of their normal course of action.
Tyrell Williams just got 4 years, $44 million with $22 million guaranteed. Adam Humphries got 4 years, $36 million with $19 million guaranteed.
Both of those players have had their moments, especially Williams, but neither are anywhere close to the quality player that Landry and Edelman are.
I look around and think this is actually a hometown discount from Edelman because he wants to stay. On the open market, he may command more--even at 32--with the way these teams are starting to spend and the rising cap.
I think he could've been in that $11/12 million/year range. Probably could've matched Humphries' guaranteed money, even at his age.
Jarvis is younger, better, and probably more explosive after the catch given his ability to break tackles.
One year from today, we might look at Jarvis' contract, and say that's just about right.
