2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I would assume most guys think/hope they are going to a starter over a reliever

Whatever. The numbers say otherwise, and Karinchak's own experience says otherwise. If you don't agree, it's not going to change my life at all.

The numbers don't say otherwise.

The longest he has ever pitched was 55 pitches. He's never gone more than 3.0 innings.

When someone gives you information you weren't aware of, don't double down on your uninformed opinion. Be open to new information.

Now that's funny. "Be open to new information" = "you should listen to what I say, but I'm not going to listen to you"

It's even funnier because both of you are taking umbrage at an offhanded comment I made, one that wasn't even the main point. It's clear you just want to fight, so I'm going to leave you here.

You claimed that Karinchak was in a starter's role in 2017. @Derek pointed out that this isn't the case. In A-Ball, relievers often start games just to get work in or whatever.

I chipped in by pointing out that even in those 6 times he opened the game, he never went more than 3.0 innings, and his higheset pitch count was only 55.

To further that point that Karinchak was never in a starter's role, his second outing in 2017 (the only year he ever opened a game) was from the bullpen. Out of his 10 appearances in 2017, 4 were from the pen. Again, the order pitchers throw in short season Mahoning Valley does not indicate the role they are pitching for. Look at things like innings pitched or pitch count rather than if they started the game.

Compare this to a starting pitcher like Triston McKenzie. At Mahoning Valley, every start of his was around 80 pitches, and he normally completed about 6 innings.

Honestly, I never knew this information until @Derek pointed it out, and it makes a lot of sense. It's also easy to look up. It's really clear that Karinchak was in a reliever's role in 2017.

Stop being so dismissive. The entire point of a forum is to have open, honest conversation. Nobody is saying "you should listen to what I say, but I'm not going to listen to you." Nobody is hear to "fight." Right now, your mindset is really disheartening. Hope you come around.

Classic example of thriving in a new role.

:chuckle:

To classify him as "a starter" is somewhat silly. Its semantics, but I don't believe they ever intended on him being a starter.

Get your 50 pitches, get out of the game. They never tried to extend him out as a starter.

I have to agree with the other guys in this argument. He wasn't groomed to be a starter at the end of the day. The minors happen to have a lot of bullpen days during a season so everyone gets game action and get in. If he was being groomed to be a starter, they would have stretched him out to at least 75-80 pitches per start in the seasons he has been here. He never got above 50, so he never was a starter in anyone's mind.

Good info above on pitch counts nonetheless.

Not sure I've had a harder hitter to get a good grasp on than Oscar Gonzalez.

Dude can flat out hit, but it is the only way he gets on base. Very, very aggressive, which typically hurts players the higher up they move, but I thought that would happen in the Carolina league with how it typically plays for hitters, but it hasn’t yet.

Listen, I wasn't trying to start anything. Your comment just seemed more fitting for somebody who had toiled for years in a starting role, which is why I asked if you were confusing him with Kaminsky.

0 walks in 20 games!!!

Eli Morgan will be in Akron by midseason. He's too good for the Carolina League.

Should we expect a mid-season promotion from Nolan Jones too? Or will he likely spend most of the year at Lynchburg?

Should be at Akron mid-year based off current production and the organization's typical promotion pattern

What happened to Nolan Jones power he flashed last year? I know the power is down sometimes in the Carolina league, but not homeruns at all?

He currently goes oppo a ton, and hits ground balls/line drives at a much higher rate than fly balls.

At Lake County he was able to power a lot of balls out to the opposite field. I believe I recall @AZ_ saying that almost all of his HR were to CF or LF.
