2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If this draft has a strength, it's in the sheer volume of interesting wing prospects. Hachimura is one of them...he has great physical tools and scoring instincts, but his all-around game has taken a while to come into place. This is probably his best all-around game so far, especially considering the circumstances.
Isn't it too be expected that he'd be a bit of a late bloomer, seeing as how he comes from Japan where I'm assuming the competition is much weaker than say the US or Europe. There's also the language barrier and the cultural differences that probably made the transition harder. He really intrigues me as a prospect.

Well, he picked up the game relatively late (age 12 I remember hearing), but I think he was in the US for a while before college, playing at an elite level. He has a lot of games with 0 or 1 assists, which really shouldn't be happening for an aspiring NBA wing at his age. Games like tonight though, he looks great.

Wikipedia says he played high-school basketball in Japan

Seriously anyone who thought duke could beat an nba team let alone a DLeague team needs to stop watching sports. Just embarrassing what people let espn tell them and no fucking Bama can’t beat an nfl team

Who is this guy lol? Just filling up the box score - scoring, assists, blocks, rebounds
Hachimura is born and raised in Japan and did not start playing basketball until middle school where he was influenced by his friends in the club to play. Before he played baseball as a pitcher and was number one in track. His basketball game was very raw at that time even though he was selected top 5 player in his 3rd year of middle school.

Hachimura is a gym rat as well and he always went to the gym in the morning before school to practice in his early career.

He has soft hands, good vision in the post, takes advantage in the post, now has a great mid range range.

Before Rui did not have range in his shot and his work ethic has helped to extend his range. He does a lot of things well which showed his all around game last night.

I feel like Buzz Killington in here always being negative on all these guys not in the top tier, but Rui didn't impress me that much in Maui. I've watched a lot of him after seeing how well he did in FIBA qualifiers in the summer.

The issue for me is that his feel for the game is about as bad as it gets in this class. The majority of his offensive game revolves around attacking from the perimeter and driving into multiple defenders... or just using the size advantage he won't always have in the NBA. And he's limited to just straight line drives because his handle isn't great. I think he'll have to be used mostly at the 4 with the shooting limitations. He just poses a lot of fit issues to me, and may be one of the few times where "tweener" still applies as a negative lol.

I buy the work ethic stuff, but people have been waiting for the shot to come around for a long time now and it hasn't happened. He reminds me a lot of Kevin Knox as a prospect, in that he's pretty much a late lottery lock imo just because of his tools... but his tape isn't always that impressive.

Lol I shoulda said top two tiers. Zion's in his own yea. I'm dying for one or two more guys to look like they're worthy of the 5th or 6th pick to me.

Ethan Happ. Yea or nay? I feel like I could have him mid lottery or undrafted depending on which side of the bed I wake up on.

Age and lack of shooting pretty much drops him out of first round for sure. He's intriguing though. I'm going to watch Virginia-Wisconsin soon. Did you watch it?

I want to see the process to which he's getting these assist numbers this year. Are they off of DHOs or set plays? For example with the Cavs, Nance has gotten a fair number of cheap assists out of some of their elbow actions so Rodney Hood can take one of his 20 mid-range pull ups each game lol.

A fit dependent guy who won't have a ton of investment put into him (probably a second round pick at most) usually won't stick around too long I wouldn't think. But he's definitely going to get first round looks if he maintains these numbers.

I watched part of it...he definitely has grab and go ability, though his "go" isn't too fast :chuckle:

At his best he looks like a much less athletic Ben Simmons, which is still a really good player, especially in a draft like this where there aren't a whole lot of skilled bigs. On the other hand, he reaaaaaally can't shoot, and he's not going to be an elite finisher at the NBA level, so you're counting on him being good enough with the ball that you actually run your offense through him when he's on the floor. I don't think he's quite that good.

Grimes getting a lot of hype for his game today. Really just hit some catch and shoot jumpers, that's about it. Streaky track record as a shooter and he did fall off later on in the game... but did hit some really really tough shots. Concerns about shot creation were still there... really didn't do much inside the arc in the HC.

Devon Dotson was super impressive. Crazy small, but there's still a chance he gets drafted this year. He's going to be one of the better players in NCAA this year.

Since the opening game Grimes has been pretty bad, as expected. I'd be surprised if he's a top 10 pick, and would guess he won't go in the lottery.

Makes me sad...if he played up to the hype, he'd be the perfect guy to put next to Sexton in the backcourt. But he's been absolutely terrible the last three games.

I never was a fan. Just doesn't create well enough and his jumper is far too streaky to be his primary selling point. Biggest disappointment for me is his defense. Was initially somewhat hidden by high effort I think coming into the season, but his overall reaction ability has been slow. His closeouts are brutal lol.

Felt like a prick tearing down some of the early season top 10 guys lol, but there are others finally that I think are moving into the 5-10 range for me like Kevin Porter, Jarrett Culver, and DeAndre Hunter. I am really high on Culver.
