2023 Free Agency

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Team has so many holes. Needs an insane amount going into next season.

OL, DL, LB, WR, DC
Idk, feels like LBer will fix itself with some health and/or some other signings.

Much more worried about DL and WR. OL isn't really a super big problem. They were running in mud since...idk, the Miami game? Think they were relied upon too heavily to pull too much.

Realistically you should throw S in the mix as well..

JJIII is just an absolute bum and we need depth ALL OVER.

Lumping a coordinator hire, which obviously isn’t bound to any sort of salary cap restriction, into the free agency thread is so on brand for you it hurts.

But sure. Holez.

Well we need a DC and we need a good one so.

It’s a hole. I would’ve started an off season thread but felt this fit.

I'm willing to cut bait on JJ3, but if the new DC likes him in his scheme, I'm okay with reworking his contract to stay.

If he's not willing to rework the contract, then I'm cutting bait. But the DL, IMO, is the biggest priority, and WR definitely is a big priority. Everything else could take a back seat.

Can we just make a trade for a productive receiver ?

I don’t need a speedster. Give me a Hunter Renfrow type.

Believe it or not, I feel like the defense is a lot closer to a significant turnaround in 2023 than the offense is at the moment.

So much of what Stefanski wants to do is predicated on the offensive line being really good and there’s not really a lot of personnel changes coming on the OL. They have to figure out why that group fell off a cliff at midseason and try and fix it with pretty much the same group of guys. That is not going to be an easy task.

The defense, on the other hand, does lack quality players in certain spots, but it has also been held back significantly by a scheme that simply was not up to snuff.

If/when the Browns improve the scheme they’re running and the way it’s called, the defense should be able to improve quickly.

I wouldn't rule it out. The FA class is garbage, with the only piece being Michael Thomas suddenly going to be in it. And he's exactly what we do not need.

The Browns need a deep threat. They need a Brandin Cooks. I'd be calling every day until the day he's traded to get him on this team next year.

This is interesting.

Cooper
Hopkins
DPJ
Njoku

Has to be the biggest group of pass catchers in the league. After ARZ cleans house at the end of the season Hopkins should be gettable for a 4th. Cooper went for two 5ths and a 6th.

There would be no need of a big adjustment from Hopkins to DW4. The money wouldn't set us back. The offense would immediately improve by sliding everyone down one spot as far as who the defense will key in on.

Keep developing David Bell and Michael Woods. Cooper, Hopkins, DPJ is a crazy good top 3 WR group.

I’m still on Zay Flowers, Hopkins or not.

Not really worried about the O-Line.

You have 3 locked in starters in Bitonio, Teller, and Conklin. Two of which have a recent history of being elite and Conklin typically grades out well above average in pass protection.

For better or worse, Wills on his rookie deal probably isn't going anywhere either without a 1st round draft pick to replace him. Unless they're willing to make an unexpected 9 figure run at Orlando Brown Jr.

That leaves Pocic, who I believe the Browns should do their best to re-sign after the drop off in play when Frodholt was starting. Ted Karras signed with the Bengals at 3 yrs $19m with $5m gtd last offseason. That seems like a good comp. But if not, they have plenty of mid round picks to try to fill the position. Hope they aren't banking on Nick Harris again.
