2023 NFL Draft - Day 1 - Round 1

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Who Goes Second Overall to Houston?

  • Total voters
    6
  • Poll closed .
Widowed dad with 14 kids? Shit, Zay's dad is my new hero.

14 kids at that point how do you not forget a name from time to time

I see twitter laughing at the Jets, they really took a day 2 guy high as #15? What a fail

I thought the Texans did the smart thing by taking Stroud at 2, but then really undid a lot of the good will of that pick by viciously overpaying to move up for Anderson.

12, 33, 2024 1st and 2024 3rd for 3 is one of the most egregious overpays I've ever seen in the draft.

Probably but there are maybe 12-18 true elite difference makers coming out of each draft.

If you are 100% certain that the guy you’re trading up for is going to be one of those Pro Bowl starter level guys and are willing to risk your job on it, then I say go for it. The hit rate even for good teams and good FOs outside of the top20 is just not that high

Houston knew they wanted Will Anderson.

Trading up to 3 was to get Stroud too.

They just selected them in opposite places probably for monetary reasons. A good QB is getting bank on a second contract no matter what. A good DE's existing salary probably plays a role in that second contract negotiation.

Browns should have taken Myles in 2017 and then traded back up for Mahomes in a similar way.

Would have been criticized harshly in The moment but 100% would have been worth it

This seems like a lot of mental gymnastics for what amounts to a near a minimal monetary difference, no?

Last year's 2nd overall pick got $35,713,386 and the 3rd overall pick got $34,657,513.

Also I disagree with this.

I think the reason Houston took Stroud and not Anderson at 2 had nothing to do with money.

I think the Texans just decided to cover their asses on the chance, however slim it may have been, that the Cardinals decided to double cross them by turning around and trading the 3rd pick to a team like Tennessee for an even bigger haul than the Texans were willing to offer.
