#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
0.9

Had little to do with his hip, and more to do with the fact that he was the fifth best CB on the roster.

He was very active as a special teamer.

So, when he did play, he was better than Gilbert. Not surprised.

So long as you look at the first three weeks of the season and not the last 13. Or understand sample size, for that matter.

I'm sure his 61 snaps would have brought a much more positive response by the Browns faithful.

What is PFF rating?

I can't imagine anyone playing worse than Gilbert did this year. Gilbert was a project with "elite" measurements and speed. Draft that late in the first or in the second, not in the top 10. Draft a guy that is ready to contribute... game tape tells that story.

i love gilbert, but PFF is at best..... untrustworthy. there are a couple people on this site that absolutely love it, but it was brought up in the manziel/hoyer threads as pretty much a really poor indicator or performance. An example that manziel rated higher in his start, than any of hoyers final 3(?) starts.

that said i think more importantly it shows all(?) of the highly rated rookie CBs this year struggled

Those who have spoken out feverishly against it have most often had the least understanding of it.

The example with Hoyer and Manziel wasn't understood because Hoyer played roughly 40% more snaps than Manziel. It didn't say Manziel played better, it actually said he played worse if you look at those numbers on a per snap basis.

If someone doesn't understand what that means, or how it affects the numbers, they'll struggle to see the value in those numbers.

I can't think of a better name for a defensive player than Darius Slay.

Justin Gilbert sounds like a guy who gets swirlies in the boy's room.

Red Grange sounds like a guy who eats iron ore. The sound of "Dick Butkus" was hilarious in old NFL films with dramatic voiceovers and horn sections. Bryan Anger was a great name wasted on a punter.

My favorite of all time remains Ha Ha Clinton Dix. Al Micheals openly cracked up laughing after saying his name the first time he called a Green Bay game this year.

Time for best football names:

Joe Montana
Buster Skrine
Jack Youngblood
Webster Slaughter

Mike Stonebreaker (LB for Notre Dame in the '80s)
Willie Thrower (one of the first black QB's to play major-college football in the early '50s)

Baccari Rambo
Major Wright
D'Brickashaw Ferguson
King Dunlap

None of these guys are white

Champ and Boss Bailey too

That's not nearly what happened.

And no, they most certainly were not.

As bad a season as Gilbert had, Dennard played worse in less time.

Gilbert: -2.8 PFF rating on 373 snaps
Fuller: -18.4 PFF rating on 877 snaps
Dennard: -7.6 PFF raring on 241 snaps

Their careers aren't written yet, no matter how much people complain.

Just out of curiosity, what about Bradley Robey?
