A closer look at Bradley Beal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
At least with them losing here, there's a chance he could drop to us. He's still one of my top 3 favorite guys in this class.

And Beal misses the game tying shot. HE SUCKS!
sad thing is some people posting this aren't being sarcastic.

it was great to see him go for the rebound though. love the effort. lots of guys would've just shot it and stood around.

Why does Florida let that short PG of their's dominate the ball? Talk about a shitty decision maker. Seemed like Florida had mismatches all over the places but he would rather shoot up a bad jumper for half there possessions then get his teammates the ball.

No kidding. Louisville switched every damn pick and roll, leaving little guys on Young all night. I realize Young isn't the most effective offensive player, but just throwing him the ball forces the defense to double, which opens things up for the guards. Very disappointing.

Congrats.

You have just summarized the last 3 years of Florida basketball...

Erving Walker always tries to be their hero as the lone senior. Last year he cost them the Final Four against Butler when they choked away the lead similar to today, and twice had the ball with no shot clock and the chance for two game winners. Both times Walker shot 25 ft step backs off balance

Don't see Beal dropping out of the top five. About his shot, here's a take from Draft Express:

I completely expect Beal to drop out of the top 5. I also completely expect the Cavs to pass on him if he's still there at #8. Some players rise in the tourney. Many of them fall in the workouts once the scouts hold them up to the measuring stick of NBA athleticism. Beal's going to have a tough time shining in the workouts.

As for draftsites, they sell hype. When I read a draft profile, I try to ignore the woulda-coulda-shoulda hype. When I do that with Beal's draft express profile, these phrases stand out: " lacks a degree of strength and explosiveness", "his perimeter shooting has been a disappointment", and "not oozing with upside". I just don't see the Cavs drafting that.

There is no chance the Cavs would leave him on the board at 8.

IMO he's squashed any doubts people had about his shooting in the past 2 weeks. Also, that strength and explosiveness was "in traffic." The article also says this, "While not possessing rim-rocking explosiveness, he's an extremely smooth and fluid athlete with excellent mobility."

and this, "Beal's ball-handling and playmaking skills appear to have improved significantly over the past year or so. Extremely effective in transition, Beal can create for himself and others in smooth and effortless fashion off the dribble with his ability to change speeds and put the ball on the floor with either hand."

and finally this, "Looking forward, Beal obviously has a very bright future ahead of him, as he already shows excellent fundamentals, a versatile skill-set, a high basketball IQ, and great maturity, despite the fact that he doesn't turn 19 till the day of the 2012 draft."

Here's another good report on him:

I usually agree with what you have to say on here, but I think you're way off in you assessment of Beal. Not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but have you actually watched him?

Most of us were already high on Beal going into March so these tournament games are just reinforcing our previous thoughts, this isn't some Kemba Walker situation.

to be fair, if the cavs are picking 8th you're going to see significant flaws on the DX profiles of pretty much every player that will be available

Beal has looked plenty quick to me and has shown pretty good handles. In all the games in the tournament, he's gotten to the rim easily. So easily in fact that it was odd that they didn't use him in a iso situation more.

I would say that he did have some trouble finishing at the rim at least today but even if his hops don't get better, I think he'll learn to use his body better. Overall I think he'd be a good pick at the 7-8 spot.
(I'm still intrigued by Lamb and could easily be swayed his direction depending on how he measures out and reports of his individual workouts. Love the fact the Huskies were able to win the title with Lamb being the #2 guy behind a ball dominant PG)

imo, lamb is the better prospect, but beal will be the better player, if that makes any sense. lambs measureables are unbelieveable (6 foot 5 with like a 7 foot 1 wingspan!), and he can knock down 3s, has a very good midrange game, and has developed a floater shot too. if he played with the aggressiveness that beal plays with, id take him over beal any day. its like drummond, if he ever gets aggressive, he has the tools and skills to be an unbelieveable talent.

just my 2 cents..

His mid-range game has been declining for the last few seasons.

I know there's been a lot of Beal love in this forum and I can tell that there is a lot of enforcement of previous thoughts. I just don't agree with it. Beal's a smart, aggressive basketball player. He looks great where he's at in the NCAA. He can contribute at the NBA level in the right situation, don't get me wrong. But by the third week of June he'll be back behind the Zellers in the mock drafts. Why? He's upside limited in a position that's not hard to fill. If the Cavs draft 8 and Beal falls to 8, I think that the Cavs trade down or draft someone else who would be a better fit next to Kyrie. Don't be heart broken when it happens.

Who exactly do you think is a better fit than Beal?

To me, regardless of what you think of his skill level/potential, his style of play is perfect to play alongside Kyrie.
