A closer look at Bradley Beal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
at least he was honest? :chuckles:

If those transcripts are a real reflection of Beal, I'd be happy to have another eloquent representative on the Cavaliers.

Listen to his interviews. He's an intelligent, well-spoken guy. Almost similar to Kyrie in that respect.

Let's hope he don't get drafted by the Wizards... He is a future all star for sure, maybe the only one from this draft. He's got all the tools, except for height, which doesn't scare me at all. Beal is just a great Basketball player. He plays for his team first, but knows that he can score better than most. He plays good D, has an amazing stroke, is fairly athletic, can slash... What's not to like?

Beal for Cavs!
KIBB = Best Backcourt in the NBA

I believe he's stated in the past that his favorite team was the Cavs because Missouri didn't have a team. He stuck with that after The Decision, and not being from Cleveland wasn't as emotionally attached, so despite LeBron being his favorite player still he still stuck with the Cavs as a team. That to me outweighs him liking LeBron.

Hope and reasonable expectations are two very different things. Gordon is a career 37% 3pt shooter in the NBA. Like Beal, he sort of struggled from deep to the tune of 33.7% in his one year in college despite his billing as a shooter. But he also put up 21 pts/game and was noticeably quicker, more explosive, and a better ballhandler and finisher in college, all of which have carried over to his NBA career along with improved shooting from deep. If not for the injuries, I think he'd be held in much higher regard in this league. I don't see Beal becoming all of those things but with even better shooting. You did say "hopefully," so please don't take this as some sort of attack, but I just dislike the Eric Gordon comparison almost as much as the Ray Allen one for those reasons.

And really this is my concern with Beal. When I try to come up with a comparison it's either a) Yeah the game is sort of similar but [Brandon Roy or James Harden] is significantly taller and/or longer or b) Yeah [Wade or Gordon] has been successful despite being undersized at the SG position like Beal, but Beal's not nearly as explosive an athlete or as sudden a ballhandler.

I'm not saying that for every prospect there needs to have been a predecessor with the exact body/abilities who has found success in the NBA, but it's still a concern for me. And even still, Dumars in the NBA seems like a pretty good comparison, though that was a different era for sure. And I don't think Beal will be a bad player by any stretch. I'm just starting to think he's maybe the biggest beneficiary of the "what have you done for me lately" phenomenon out of anyone in the draft and I'm just not sure he's as much of a sure thing as everybody seems to expect.

also lets remember that Gordon played with a hand injury that caused a significant drop in his 3 point shooting.

I think this Beal craze is getting out of hand. He is an undersized shooting guard who is supposed to be a great shooter because his jumper looks pretty. He may be a good shooter but is that really anything special for a undersized 2 guard? Is that worthy of being talked about like a top 3 pick or an all star? When did we start valuing guard rebounding so highly?

Beal does do a good job of chasing down long rebounds. That is an nba skill in his bag of tricks. It adds to his flavor. He's the most complete shooting guard in the draft. Though perhaps a jack of all trades, master of none. What does he do that looks undeniably superior as a skill? Nothing. I think he's an almost all star type. I'll probably in the end be happy with whomever we draft though. can't really go wrong. we're in a favorable position.

Bradley Beal: I'm trying to develop into a combo-guard so I can play the 1 and the 2. Coming out of college I was probably strictly a 2 and I played probably more 3 in college as well, so I'm really just trying to become more of a combo guard, a guard that can handle the ball, play the point guard, and 2-guard as well.

Not saying anything about his actual talent..but the Cavs have had their share of combo guards and trying to experiment doing it ,and it's never worked..if they draft him let him play the 2 and not try to mold him into a combo type.

My only worry is his size. He really needs to be special to be an effective 2 guard in this league with that size.

I think people forget sometimes how big a deal lebron is. yeah, we hate him but he excels at what these kids want to do. Like it or not they're going to look up to him. Even kyrie and TT do. We may hate it, but to these guys (and to me) it only makes sense to aspire to be like the person who is one of if not the best at your job. We have to remember these guys have minds of their own. Just because they look up to him doesn't mean its a bad thing because that automatically means their gonna emulate his crappy ways. I'd like to think that these guys want to be great too and stats, ability and work ethic is what they truly admire about him and not taking the easy way to a chip. Which they should now see doesn't exist.

It never worked because we always had combo guards playing PG for us. However, a combo guard along with KI would be great with the way KI can play off the ball.

Maomao, it's the 21st century. Don't look at height. Look at reach and wingspan.

Beat me to it. I love that Beal is stating that he wants to be more of a combo guard at the next level. Though I do not want it to happen for large portions of a game, I really like the thought of Irving being able to play off another guard for stretches.

Do not agree at all. With Kyrie's shooting, I think its important our wing players have the ability to handle the ball handling and play making duties. In a Princeton offense, the movemement almost requires the off guard be able to play some point.

The reason our current combo guards dont work is lack of talent, not because its a bad idea. You dont think Kobe or MJ would work well next to Kyrie? The both do allot of the ball handling and play making. (just saying)

Doug has been plugging away at the height thing for weeks. Almost makes you wonder if the guy was able to pull off a model wife while being 5'5...
