A Look Inside the Dysfunction of the Cleveland Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, it's really not a big deal. I've personally had a team leader at work early in my time there tell me to my face that he didn't think my role was needed. He thought that way because he always had his team structured a certain way his whole career, and then the company made enterprise-wide changes and added new roles, one of which I was in. It didn't bother me at all...I just kept working and did my job as I was supposed to do it. It wasn't long before he saw the value in what I was doing and he was quick to let me know he was wrong. We got along great.

Similar thing probably happened here with Dorsey. He probably didn't think the analytics group added much value, because he had been doing things a certain way his whole life without them. And now that he's worked closely with them, he understands what they bring to the table.

People who are doing new things can't be too proud to have skeptics.

Pretty sure dorsey even talked about how they used analytics in KC. Didn't he say he wanted to be modeled after braves? Like 15% analytics and 85% traditional scouting? I think the quote is taken out of context a bit. Especially, since depo was also in on the hiring process.

Now don't be cynical. I mean, what are the odds a writer would take a quote out of context just to give his article more punch?

The people living in Cleveland have heard all of this, but it's a national story. I don't agree with your last line either - the article didn't put Hue in a good light whatsoever.

The Browns appear to be turning a corner, so in the writer's mind, the story of incompetence that's defined Jimmy's ownership to this point could be over, and thus, ready to be told.

I really enjoyed reading it.

This post really nailed it. My youngest son wanted to wear his Browns jersey to school yesterday. All his teachers were stumped on which team he was wearing and who "Cribbs" was. The Browns are miles away from the casual fan's radar right now, and dedicated NFL fans are just starting to check up.

This is the perfect time for the country to get a well researched state of the franchise update, even if it exposes all the warts. People care more about the characters when there is a back story. Be as honest as you want about the past... just be honest about the present while you are at it because they matter again.

We also picked the QB that analytics loved over the guys (Darnold and Allen) that traditional football guys all were raving about.

I'd include Rosen in that latter group too but apparently basically everyone hated him. :chuckle:

Kinda stupid. Nothing we didn't know, packaged as new information. Doesn't really tell us anything about Dorsey, Kitchens or Mayfield.

Weird that it comes out now. Why divert attention from the Super Bowl?

edit - I also like how he mentions that 4 of the first 8 games were OT games when Haslam said the players had quit on Hue.

In one of those games we forced 6 turnovers and still didn't win. 2 others were against the Raiders the Bucs, who were awful. If we had competent coaching, those are 3 easy wins. How is that proof of not quitting?

Because stuff like this distracts from the officiating crisis that the NFL definitely doesn't want people talking about this week.

Are people really interested in talking Tom/Bill vs the NFC winner again?

Its the week before the years most boring game and SB crap doesn't pick up till next week.

I think the timing is perfect. He mentions many teams would love to have Dorsey and many teams would love to have Baker.

I read it as now that the Browns are heading in the right direction, let me give you some insight into why the Browns were so fucking bad for the first 6 years of Haslam's ownership until he finally got it right and hired Dorsey.

I am ok with the timing, and I love the story, and the message seems great. We were a fucking disaster until we hired Dorsey, can anyone argue that?

Are people interested in the Super Bowl?

Probably
They will be interested in it in over a week on Superbowl Sunday and move onto the draft the day after that. More people were interested in the no-pi call than the Superbowl on Monday. Also, ticket prices in resale sites normally spike after the championships but they dropped $500-$1000 because of the Patriots. I'm assuming TV ratings will be down too.

I was actually going through the mindset of why this is likely.

I did a hypothetical of if my dad moved to New England instead of Akron in the mid-80's and what someone like me would have seen. (1989-pres.)

-9 Super Bowl appearances
-5 Super Bowl victories
-2 NBA Finals appearances
-1 NBA Championship
-2 Stanley Cup finals appearances
-1 Stanley Cup victory
-4 World Series victories

That's 17 total championship appearances. That's insane and probably represents an over saturation in terms of fans wanting to spend money to see their team in the finals.

Boston also probably cares far more for the Celtics and Red Sox. I imagine that's far more of a big deal to fans there.

Not to mention? New England for whatever reason...doesn't have the "starter jacket" effect on people. So unlike Denver, Pittsburgh (much to our chagrin here), Green Bay, Dallas, Seattle, and San Fransisco? Front runners don't seem to really cling to them.

You combine that with the fact that Los Angeles has been "divorced" from the Rams fro 1995 until 2016? (20 years). They've not yet had fans in that area fall back in love with the team.

It's a worst of all worlds combo.

Did any of those 17 appearances come back from 3-1 by beating a record setting team who had the unanimous MVP... Didnt fucking think so

Well I'm a Cleveland fan.

Fuck Boston and may they go away for a long time.

It’s because Boston fans are the biggest pricks in the world.
