A Look Inside the Dysfunction of the Cleveland Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was actually going through the mindset of why this is likely.

I did a hypothetical of if my dad moved to New England instead of Akron in the mid-80's and what someone like me would have seen. (1989-pres.)

-9 Super Bowl appearances
-5 Super Bowl victories
-2 NBA Finals appearances
-1 NBA Championship
-2 Stanley Cup finals appearances
-1 Stanley Cup victory
-4 World Series victories

That's 17 total championship appearances. That's insane and probably represents an over saturation in terms of fans wanting to spend money to see their team in the finals.

Boston also probably cares far more for the Celtics and Red Sox. I imagine that's far more of a big deal to fans there.

Not to mention? New England for whatever reason...doesn't have the "starter jacket" effect on people. So unlike Denver, Pittsburgh (much to our chagrin here), Green Bay, Dallas, Seattle, and San Fransisco? Front runners don't seem to really cling to them.

You combine that with the fact that Los Angeles has been "divorced" from the Rams fro 1995 until 2016? (20 years). They've not yet had fans in that area fall back in love with the team.

It's a worst of all worlds combo.

Yeah, but if you were a Pats fan, you'd also probably be an insufferable cunt.

Because if by chance the Browns win five Super Bowls over the next twenty years, we're all going to be totally insufferable cunts.

No doubt,I've already warned my friends

One of the things that bothers me most is that Haslam didn’t give reasons to any of the people he fired

And inviting Banner to dinner only to tel him before hand he liked what he did with the team so much that he’s fired

And not inviting Farmer to dinner even when requested by the team president?

Yeah, you guys can call it a new owner just learning. I’ll call him a shitty person.

People assuming that Haslam has turned over a new leaf I think you’re just being optimistically naive. Don’t forget he also turned over a new leaf when he promised Sashi he would see it through (also in the story) only to fire him after again saying he did a good job

Haslam is one of the worst owners in sports. I hope Dorsey/Kitchens/Mayfield are enough to override such a fucking awful owner, but we ain’t out of the woods yet

Dude's a billionaire. You rarely make that much money without being a shitty person.

The number of guys with an axe to grind with Haslam is long, and it includes Hue, Sashi, Banner, Longabardi, Pettine, Haley, and Farmer. Moreover, some of those guys also have axes with DePodesta and Dorsey.
You really think Hue has an axe to grind with Haslam? Why on earth should he? If anything Hue should be kissing Haslam’s feet for basically being the guy’s biggest supporter for 2.5 years when he in no way deserved it and had no other supporters in the organization.

In fact if it weren’t for Dorsey, Hue Jackson may even still be our coach today because of Haslam’s desire for “stability”.

People don’t like blaming themselves or introspection

Why did Josh Gordon trash Browns gear and hate the organization that was willing to give him chance after chance after chance? Because it’s easier than coming to terms with your own shortcomings

Because the amount of power that you have to put into make that much money necessitates shutting down a lot of thoughts on other people's well being. I'm not even talking about ruthless business ethics, I'm talking being able to tune out thoughts on labor practices, worker compensation, conditions, exploiting tax loopholes. You need to be able to just not give a fuck about other people, because otherwise your brain would be screaming at you to stop what you're doing.

Entertaining story but I almost pulled a muscle on some of those reaches by the Wickersham, as I don't believe Hue told him to "get the f*** out of my office" and the reckless speculation of future qualms between Paul DePodesta and John Dorsey based solely on Kitchens thanking DePodesta during the introductory press conference...okay.

Another weird tidbit was how shocked Todd Haley must have been because he was planning on turning the interim job down and recommending Kitchens, a RB coach who's never even been an OC...yeah I'm not buying that Todd.

The most disturbing thing in this article was Haslem eating hard boiled eggs in a meeting, what kind of monster does that?!?

Moved to Boston 3 years ago.. Can confirm

Been 18 years for me now (HOLY SHIT). I moved here just in time to see the Browns get one of their three wins in 2000 against the Bill Bellicheck-led Patriots. Then... the City's insufferable championship run began.
