Addressing the hole at center

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With no solid centers on the market, it may not be a bad idea to just start grabbing any and all bigs on the market. Some intriguing names:

Ed Davis
Elton Brand
Jason Smith

DeJuan Blair
Anthony Tolliver
Kenyon Martin

Would be solid.

I would be down with Seraphin, wasn't aware he was an UFA. He put up some really respectable numbers from '11-'13 but fell out of rotation this past season under Wittman who just signed an extension. I can't find any news on him at all.

I wouldn't mind getting Okafor. A Solid rim protector, someone we really need.

It's crazy, but I would feel so much more comfortable right now if Tyler Zeller was still on this team. :chuckles: I just can't believe we had to give him up to unload Jack.

Still mad about that because Zeller really fit our offense. We gave Boston a first AND Zeller to take the contract of Thornton. That's highway robbery.

Davis, Brand and Smith are the best names on that list imo, pretty much in that order too. Davis is going to cost the most imo and Brand should cost the least due to age.

I can see the cavs inviting a lot of centres to training camp to try and find some sort of help. Pat Young would be able to physically handle the load for spot minutes. The guys griffin have brought in to the summer team are all white below the rim guys who can face up a bit, like zeller :(. It seems like they want to keep the key as open as possible, but theres not many 5s that allow for that, especially if you keep TT

How about a flier on Kevin Seraphin? UFA 24 years old, 6-10, 278lbs. One year contract with team option on a 2nd. Just a thought. Big men take a while and he has been in the league 4 years now going on 5. Not a starter but can take minutes from Andy/Haywood for needed rest.

According to the link below, Seraphin is a RFA.

Zeller would have been pretty perfect for Blatt's offense. He's just so perfect in the pick-and-pop/roll and is good at cutting to the basket off the ball. I was really disappointed we had to let him go because even during his rookie year I thought he'd eventually turn into a very good role-player. We saw flashes of that last year, and I think LeBron would have made him look really good if they had gotten the chance to play together. It would have been like flashing back to LeBron and Z playing together, except with Tyler being a bit more athletic and better at cutting than late-career Z.

It isn't crazy at all.

Zeller could shoot well, run the floor well, and started to show more toughness last year.

Seraphin is a definite possibility and he's an LRMR client. On the downside, he's a RFA and I imagine the Wizards will match any reasonable offer.

Other than Seraphin, Oden & Okafor hold some appeal.

I wouldn't mind the Cavaliers trading Thompson or Bennett for a young center and then signing Ed Davis. The loss of Hawes was manageable, but losing Zeller, on top of that and for nothing in return, really hurts.

I've been trying to watch most of the summer league games and one young under the radar candidate C could be Donatas Motiejunas from the Rockets. He's looked impressive so far and could really see him fitting in under Blatt's system. He can hit the mid range shot and block an occasional shot. Not sure of his availability after Houston dealt Asik and lost out on Bosh but they are supposedly bringing over their first round pick Clint Capela so maybe Motiejunas can be had fairly cheaply.

Maybe another possibility is Thabeet from OKC. He can at least block shots. The Thunder drafted Adams last year and McGary this year so it makes sense maybe they would deal one of their centers.

Thabeet
Oden
Jermaine Oneal
Okafor

any combination of those 2 gives us 12 fouls a game, can defend the paint, and should come reasonably cheap.

Thabeet is absolute trash but dontas would b intriguing

I'd be fine with taking a flier on Okafor if he would sign for the minimum or not much more. If he comes back healthy it's a great signing for us. If not, well, we're not out anything, and unlike Bynum he won't be a locker room problem.
