Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't forget the Browns were supposed to land Ray Edwards. Also, "you mad bro?" is one of the stupidest phrases ever. No idea why it caught on.

no we were the favorite to land him... do we need a tweet reading lesson

Even though it came out that the Browns never made an offer to him? He must just be a big fan of the team or something. I don't get your staunch loyalty to this dude, is he your dad?

The deal was supposed to happen. Dwight was telling people he was leaving going to Jersey then Otis Smith pulled Howard off the table and Lopez broke his foot.

According to iBob. You're either so gullible that you really do believe him or you're just plain misguided.

Colts continue housecleaning, fire Jim Caldwell

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 17, 2012, 2:44 PM EST

The Colts are making a clean break with the men that directed their 2-14 season.

The team announced Tuesday that Jim Caldwell has been “released” as head coach. Less than a week after officially replacing the Polian clan, new Colts G.M. Ryan Grigson ultimately chose a fresh start over continuity.

It was believed that Caldwell’s relationship with Peyton Manning could have saved him. The thinking was that the Colts wouldn’t want to entirely scrap the offense if Manning was going to return.

The problem with that theory: No one knows if Manning is ever going to play football again. Even if Manning does play, we don’t know yet whether he’d accept being on the same team with presumptive No. 1 pick Andrew Luck.

It didn’t make sense to keep Caldwell without knowing Manning’s status. Perhaps the Colts already know what they will do with Manning, but it’s also possible they honestly don’t know if Manning will play again. If the Colts really want to keep Manning, dropping Caldwell shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

In many ways, Manning is the Colts offensive system. If Manning does get healthy and remains on the roster, we’re sure the Colts can find a coach that can build around his talents.

Then again, perhaps Grigson will usher in an entirely new era of Colts football. There definitely will be a new General Manager and a new head coach.

We’ll have to wait to find out whether there is a new quarterback.

RT @KyleRowland @footballscoop is reporting Jim Tressel will be interviewed for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching job.

Could be a smart move for them. The Browns and the Bengals aren't very good and Indianapolis isn't much further than Pittsburgh, whom have stolen some OH fans. Tressel in Indianapolis will inevitably come with his fans in Columbus/Ohio. Scary for the Browns, even more for the Bengals.

Dolphins hire Joe Philbin to be their next head coach.

I only hope this doesn't mean we trade for Flynn and/or give him a huge contract.

Dolphins hire Joe Philbin as head coach

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 20, 2012, 6:37 PM EST

Joe Philbin is the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins made the decision to hire Philbin as their next coach today, multiple media outlets reported late Friday afternoon.

Philbin had been the Packers’ offensive coordinator, and his personal story overshadowed football when his son died last week. After mourning his son during the week, Philbin was there with his team at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

Now Philbin takes over a Dolphins franchise that has major question marks, particularly at quarterback. But there’s no question that Philbin is a coach who knows how to implement a strong passing game.

I'm betting the Dolphins are the leader in the clubhouse now. Sort of an odd move though. This pretty much means the whole Bill Parcells tenure was complete failure, or that they have a lack of dedication to the system in place.

Not sure why it is such an odd move.

I do think Parcells' tenure overall was a failure (given how things went with Sparano and some personel decisions), but I don't think it was a complete failure (I actually think Ireland is ok).

Besides the fact that Philbin is probably not too stable right now. He's going from an organization that instills the WC philosophy in it's operations, to one built for the Parcells/Belichick line. Not just FO and coaching staff, but players too. This is why I said the Parcells experiment looks to be a failure, or aborted I guess. He put the roots in place for one way of doing things and now they're bringing in a HC that has been doing things a completely different way.

I'd certainly argue we need different (at least offensively).

I also think the current GB offense is at least being mischaracterized a bit by calling it a WC philosophy. None of us can claim the stability of Philbin one way or the other either.

Green Bay deviates from the old school playbook some but it's still the same system.

DEFINITION:
The term 'West Coast Offense' has a two-fold meaning:

1. it describes an ball control offensive system that uses the timed, short passing game AND

2. it also describes the entire offensive structure from play schematics, preparation, installation, implementation, game planning, execution, and attention to every detail of this offensive system.

Erhardt-Perkins, what I assume they were using, is fundamentally different. It's reactionary. It's different personnel and a different way of preparing. Not just the offensive verbage, a whole different way of approaching the game. I mean, the gameplan is even based on adjusting to what the opposing team is doing, which is the total opposite of what the WCO does, forcing teams to adjust to them.

If you like the move, that's fine. I just think it's an odd decision.

I don't dislike the move. I am not sure how much I like it, but I am optimistic. I don't find it odd though.
