Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really feel next year he'll be a pro bowl QB. I'm that high on him.
With the way he’s playing, the respect he has garnered around the league, and the timing of the Pro Bowl leading to many guys sitting out....

....he may be one this year.

He is exactly as advertised: A hot-tempered, aggressive competitor who energizes a meeting room — or an entire stadium — merely with his presence. His bravado is an acquired taste for some. And Mayfield knows it.

“I mean, he’s a d— … when you have to play him,” Garrett matter-of-factly adds with a grin. “Even in practice, sometimes, I wanna chop him in the throat. He talks smack to everybody.”

Incredible article on Mayfield.

I did kind of compare him to a Drew Brees since his footwork and other stuff looked the same as Brees when he was at Purdue lol

Edit:
Ps. the guys who disagree you can go find my old posts, I said from the get go his movements, mechanics and footwork, look a lot like Brees at Purdue.

It's HILARIOUS we ran the wishbone with Mayfield btw.

Considering that was something that indeed perfected at OU.

Barry Switzer must have smiled when he saw that. (he still lives here and is STILL on tv out here btw)

It's just still way too early to compare him to one of the best ever. I get comparing similarities/style.

I'm just not ready to compare his career on that level yet.

If he ends up 3/4th as good as Brees, I'll be really happy.

Brees also struggled his first couple of years in San Diego.

I remember having to tell friends that he was actually good and for them to just tell me "Nope"

It''s an apples to oranges situation. Though I will note? it's hilarious how UT have blown off BOTH despite LITERALLY PLAYING IN THEIR HOME STADIUM IN HIGH SCHOOL.

I mean, wow.

Oh yeah, I know it is, but I had him when I did my personal draft evaluations for QBs that he had a similar physical ability to a Drew Brees. It felt like their footwork and everything like that were really similar to one another. Personalities are different, but physical abilities looked really close to me.

If he ends up in that type of mold and we give him better protection and weapons next season with an aging division, I think its very possible we could win the division/get into the wild card next season. I mean if we had some better coaching, kicking and Browns friendly refs, we could be in the playoff hunt this season. The first few games of the season, we barely lost and I feel we are going to finish strong this season.

Ronde Barber

Well he had a good career, so no qualms with that decision.

I am pretty sure right now though Baker's jersey is going to be selling well in Northeastern Ohio. We needed a QB who could truly lead this team in cleveland for awhile.

Mayfield to me has a little bit of Brett Favre (aggressive mentality and youthful exuberance) + a little bit of Philip Rivers (supreme self confidence that toes the line of cockiness) + a little bit of Drew Brees (size, football IQ and accuracy).

Man he is going to be so fucking good... get him the pieces and a great coach and let’s give the young generation of browns fans winning football

Yeah I’ve been in the Tampa area for 15 years or so and him, Sapp, and John Lynch were/are heroes around here.

If he’s going to make watching the Browns fun again, I gotta have it.
