Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't like to disparage beers or breweries at all, but I might be the only Ohioan who feels "meh" about Fat Head's.. They have some tasty beers, but their moneymakers just have no identity to me... Also, this beer, for a "session" beer is not very palatable for me...

On a side-note story.... A couple of months ago, Founders' Kentucky Breakfast Stout was released at some places in CLE.. I went to the Lizardville on Miles after work to try to nab a bottle or two, but they were sold out. They were, however, tapping a keg of the beer 40 minutes from when I showed up. I was there for like 3 hours and had 2 KBS off the tap... Blacked out so hard, my wife took a picture of me passed out on the couch, half undressed, hammered... I'm a lightweight, I know.. Needless to say, I took a break from heavy hitters while out..

I did have this a few weeks ago before my wedding, though... It was absolutely amazing; would drink again and again. Dropped $20 on a 750 mL, tho.

I by no means think I am old (28) but holy shit, I feel your pain about being a lightweight. Back in undergrad I could take a 24 pack, smash it, get up, eat Subway and a Gatorade, and re-set that VHS tape to start over again. Went out on Monday for the USA game and had 5 total beers (BL & Bud-Select, I know, awful, but they were $1.50) and slightly felt hungover in the morning, until after my shower. I woke up and almost jumped out of my bedroom window I was so ashamed of myself.

Going to grill out Saturday so I will have to pick up a 6'er I have never had/seen on here recently and let you guys know how it is.

New Belgium is a rock solid company. I was on a two year long break from beer and they brought me back in.

Best beers I've had recently are Ninkasi special release Dawn of the Red and Market Garden Wahoo Wit. Both had great depth of flavor while being light enough for summer drinking. The Wahoo Wit had me stumbling and loud one night in Cleveland. It might taste like a low alcohol content beer but it packs a 6.5% punch. The Ninkasi beer is probably hard to find outside of the West Coast, but it's worth it. I usually find their offerings overly choppy, but they infuse some tropical fruit in this Irish Red Ale to even it out.

Speaking of New Belgium, this is one of the best beers I've ever had:

I wish they'd do another release of it. It's a great beer for stay home date nights. Pick up some Thai food, pop open a bottle of that, and put on a movie. Good times.

For some of you guys that have been more adventurous w/their beers. I love me some wheat beer. I always feel it is a love/hate relationship with wheat beer. So hopefully one of you like it. Do you guys recommend any? I remember trying this when I was in Chicago last year and liked it.

Last weekend I attended the Oregon Brewfest. Over 80 breweries submitted a specialty small batch, each tasting is a buck, four bucks for a full pint. As always, a beer drinkers heaven on earth, next to a river and in walking distance from VooDoo Doughnuts. My favorites: Rogue made a strong altbier with Kolsh yeast, they called it Doppelsticke. A brewery from Washington called Laht Neppur, which even my friend from Seattle had never heard of, made "Peach Pie Heffy," a wheat beer with peach and cinnamon. On an 80 degree day, it was wildly refreshing. I could have plowed through buckets of it.

If you are looking for a good weekend getaway and love beer, remember the Oregon Brewfest.

Just had it. It's pretty good, I like it.

I live literally 5 minutes from that Kenny Rd Beer Market in Columbus that has an absurd amount of beers .. going to have to start getting over there.

Chris bumping this thread just reminded me...

I found these at Teeter over the weekend:

They were legit. I definitely want to try the other two kinds now. Will probably buy them for some grilling out this weekend.

I was directed here from the Manziel thread

Here's what I wrote there:

My all time favorite is Three Floyd's Robert the Bruce(Scotch Ale) and my beer of this season is Heavy Seas' Small Craft Warning(Pils)

This thread is about to get more people I feel from like the 5 of us that post in it b/c of that damn Manziel thread.

I am heading down to Columbus today so maybe I will have to check it out tomorrow morning. I am going to Nashville this weekend so I will make sure I mark what new beers I try there.

EDIT: And to go along with the Wheat beer, I came across New Belgium Snapshot Wheat in a store the other day. I am going to have to pick that up next week. Anyone try that yet?

As I've been touting.. I'm on a serious sour kick... Had these recently and I'd suggest them to anyone.

These were all winners.. I did a "Christmas in July" tasting last week of a cellared keg of Great Lakes Christmas Ale (2011) and while it wasn't very different, I'm impressed with how that beer keeps.. There were a bunch of other Christmas beers at that tasting that had been cellared (the Fantome De Noel won the night for me) that I preferred over Great Lakes.

All the New Belgium products are readily available to me, and their take on the heffer isn't my favorite. Its okay in that it isn't overly fruity like some hefweitzens, but a number of California/Oregon breweries do that genre better IMO. I'd take a Widmer brothers heff any day.

Just bought my ticket to Charlotte Oktoberfest. Always a fun time every year.

Had Dogfish head Burton Baton:

and:

Both were very good. I prefer the Dogfish head peach to the Kentucky Peach, however.
