RG3 also has lots (read: years) to learn the offense. Weeden would have to step up and know it come this season. There's a lack of experience in the offense that's going to take at least one year (more likely a couple) for Weeden to fully grasp. (That should cover your first two points.)
Of course, there were better players on the board at 22 than there are going to be at 37. We could have gotten a very solid offensive lineman. Instead, that's going to be pushed back to possibly the third round now.
And neither will have half the arm that Weeden has.
Why the hell am I defending Weeden?
What the Weeden selection really means:
This front office feels pressure, and that's what merits this pick. They think WIN NOW, and that's really not the goal. Weeden is not a guy that's going to win a super bowl, so what's the point? It makes no sense. The front office's backs are against the wall, I'm not trying to be a team that goes to the playoffs every year and ends up losing in the first/second round. I want a guy who can win it for us, and he isn't the one. He's 28, 29 when the season starts and this pick is just fucking stupid.
If we get Randle or Hill in the second, then move back into the second to take an OT my stance will lighten a little. This pick is just the FO feeling too much pressure to win right now, when they should be trying to win in the future.
STUPID.
If he can beat out Colt McCoy....far from a lock.
First a majority of the QBs in this draft would beat out Colt from day 1. One of the worst starting QBs in the NFL.
2.) I wasn't a fan of either pick but if anyone thought that Colt McCoy was a viable option that needed more time needs to get their head examined. Starting Colt would set this team back longer than missing on Weeden.
Waiting till next year to get your QB gets you fired.
Best post in the thread imo.
