Embracing the ginger....

Gingers do have souls.

You don't know Weeden, you're not God!

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Aside from "starting Colt sets you back longer than missing on Weeden"

That literally made no sense.

I think he was just trying to say that Weeden will be able to start, contribute, and do things that we were still waiting for Colt to do.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Exactly how I feel. If we were closer to being competitive, I wouldn't hate the pick because it could put us into contention..... but let's face it.... The Browns aren't even close to competing. They are terrible. By the time we may POSSIBLY be competitive, Weeden will already be 32-33.

Drafting Weeden would also make more sense to me if we added a free agent WR and/or RT to help us "win now."

It makes ZERO sense.

Draft approach seems to be "win now."

Free agency approach was "it's a process, be patient."

WTF

I love the Browns, even more than I love the Cavs/Indians/Buckeyes.

But this is ridiculous, and I'm starting to think I may never see a SB in my life time. I'm losing major faith in our FO, and our organization. Weeden is a good player, but he put up good numbers last year AGAINST PLAYERS THAT WERE ALL 4-5 YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIM. He should have been dominating them.

He's not a guy you want to build around for the FUTURE. We're setting ourselves up for a Chargers/Jets kind of role: Get to the playoffs and see how fast you can lose. Never getting anywhere near the super bowl.

Love Richardson though.

Brandon Castel ‏ @BCastOZone
Weeden's numbers in wins over Foles, Tannehill, RG3, Landry Jones and Luck: 166-227 (73%) for 1,7
25 yards. 10 TDs, 2 INT.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

I think Weeden will be a great mentor to Colt.

I'm also excited we gave the Steelers an old school mauling guard with a Top 12 grade.

The point? None of those players play defense. Completely irrelevant and stupid to look at.

He is a competitor who plays his best games against the best competition.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Is the wins part of it irrelevant?

Maybe. But none of those defenses were anything special whatsoever. I would expect anyone to put up those kinds of numbers.

Wanna see the numbers Colt put up in wins against teams with good QB's? I wonder how relevant that would be?

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Aside from "starting Colt sets you back longer than missing on Weeden"

That literally made no sense.

Sure it does because the excuses next year would be that no QB would succeed with the amount of rookies and second year skill position players around him. So we need to stick with Colt at least another year to see what he has.

So you start Colt go 4-12 again (highest number of games I can see us winning with him) and hope the entire FO doesn't get fired for not winning in year 3. Then they have to take a QB that may or may not be the guy. Then you still have Colt who "deserves" a fair shot and a rookie who "needs to sit".

Not only that you will have one of the worst offenses in the NFL with Colt as your starter. He can throw between the hashmarks and that is it. Cannot make any of the out throws or the stick throws. Deep ball floats like a punt and WRs need to stop and wait for the rainbow to arrive.

It does no good keeping Colt as the starter.

Also your OLine looks worse with him in there. Not only that so would the running game. There is no reason to respect Colt's ability (or lack thereof) to throw the football. So you can stick with Colt and hope you are bad enough to get one of the "elite" QBs next year. If you miss out again then when do you take one? The year after?

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

Im not mad about the pick, but can some of you guys see where im coming from when I criticize Heckert? He is definitely better than any other GM we have had since 99 (not hard) but he seems to reach at times (Taylor, Hardesty, Weeden, and Marecic).

Fuck yeah we got Weeden! Gingers are the next greatest thing to happen at QB. Heckert knew he needed Richardson and Weeden to revamp this offense. Now we'll add Randle in tomorrow. Best draft ever.

Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread

After Kendall Wright was taken, I really wanted Reiff. He was thought to be the 2nd best OLineman in the draft for quite some time. I think he would be a steal at #22.

Just a shame.

If there's one player I would agree with, it's certainly Reiff... I certainly think it would have been a good value...

But let me just say something here...

The 1st round was very thin on OTs, much more so than people expected... And now because of that, many OTs fell into the 2nd round that weren't expected... Guys like Jonathan Martin, Cordy Glenn, and even guys like Mike Adams and Bobbie Massie are pushed down because of that... Even guys like Mitchell Schwartz are now pushed down further...

What this also does is create a dilemma: is Reiff at #22 that much of a better value than Glenn/Martin at #37, Adams/Massie in a trade up or Schwartz in the 3rd? I mean it's something that GMs think about when trying to get the best value out of the draft.. I don't think there's that huge drop-off between Reiff and some of the other OTs than warrants a 1st round pick over one of these OTs in the 2nd and 3rd...

The Browns were in a position where they wanted and needed to get a QB... When Wright went, they didn't want to miss out on their guy... If they didn't get Weeden as their QB, then they were screwed..

I certainly think Reiff should have been the pick, just throwing something to think about out there...

Im a BPA guy, but I think we have to go WR in the 2nd. I have my fingers crossed for Hill.
