Browns Free Agency 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know nothing about Sam Bradford. I guess he is young, so there is upside? I feel like his career has defined mediocre, except for what, a 4 game stretch. I have absolutely no basis to that, not even looking up his stats. I am that lazy. I prefer to judge first and ask questions later.

A 2nd would only be appropriate if he was re-signed to a reasonable contract. If not, then what, a 5th rounder? Plus, why would he want to play for us versus the Eagles in a "show me" year? They get people open. They have a sexy coach. We have a bad reputation in the league. I just don't see it. I don't even see how Philly trades up to get MM, and like Boobie said, I doubt they roll with Johnny 8 Ball and The Sanchize.

The guy clearly hates being here.

He's been the best LT in football since he was drafted and he chose to spend his entire career here. He could have definitely gotten his money somewhere else and he didn't.

Terrible post.

I don't deny that he's a good football player. He also signed that deal 3 head coaches and 3 front offices ago, so I could see how his feelings toward the team could have changed/irrevocably been broken.

All I'm saying is that if the guy doesn't want to be here, we could probably get a lot for him.

Hasn't missed a play in his career. What an asshole.

Sam Bradford has played 100% of the snaps that he's been healthy for.

Well, his rookie season he did break Peyton Manning's rookie record, for most passing yards in a rookie season. He looked poised to be a franchise QB, the Rams have done a terrible job building any sort of team around him. Letting him basically get killed with a paper thin line, and Sam just hasn't been able to survive on the field.

Pro-bowl QB? I don't know, probably a stretch, but when healthy he's definitely pretty good.

Definitely a better option than anything we'll be able to put out this coming season.

The one word that comes to mind when describing JT is, "lacks effort". I vividly remember him taking the majority of plays off in most, if not all, of his Probowl appearances.

That was fast. Apparently, the Ravens had offered him the vet minimum and the Browns came in a bit higher. The criticism is that Housler mustn't be that valuable a pass catcher to only yield those offers, but we'd all be upset if the Ravens happened to beat out the Browns for a guy.

Housler is the best fit amongst the tight end options left. He runs a sub-4.5 in the 40, which can absolutely create mismatches if a linebacker is covering him. He seemed destined to be on a similar career path as Cameron at one point, but Bruce Arians keeps tight ends in for pass protection. I do think he can be a part-time weapon, but he has shown he isn't much of a blocker, meaning he is rarely a red zone target. DeFilippo loves using an H-Back in a multitude of ways, I hope Housler ends up being a place holder for a rookie.

This seems like a reasonable signing that took too long to happen.

Browns sign free agent tight end Rob Housler

By TOM WITHERS (AP Sports Writer) 33 minutes ago AP - Sports

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Browns tackled one of their offensive needs, signing free agent tight end Rob Housler to a one-year contract.

After losing former Pro Bowl tight end Jordan Cameron during free agency to Miami, the Browns were in need of quality depth at the position. They faced the possibility of needing to use one of their top picks - they have two in the first round and six of the first 115 - in the NFL draft on a tight end. However, Housler lessens that urgency, at least temporarily.

Housler spent the past four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, who selected him in the third round of the 2011 draft. While not much of a downfield threat, the 27-year-old Housler caught 105 passes for 1,133 yards and a touchdown in those four years. Last season, the 6-foot-5, 250-pounder had nine receptions for 129 yards.

Cameron's departure was a major blow to a Cleveland offense lacking quality playmakers. The team will be without wide receiver Josh Gordon in 2015 after he was suspended by the NFL at least one year for multiple drug infractions.

Housler gives Cleveland depth at tight end along with Gary Barnidge and Jim Dray, solid blockers who combined for just 30 receptions and one TD last season.

The team hosted Housler at their facility on Wednesday and the sides were quickly able to reach an agreement. Housler also drew interest from AFC North rivals Cincinnati and Baltimore as well as Atlanta.

This is great and all, but what does it mean for Gary Barnidge?
