Browns hire Rob Chudzinski

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Actually think Banner is doing a pretty respectable job in building up the organization's leadership - now we'll have to see what he does with the player personnel part.

He is, and it says a lot that most of our hires garner pretty universal praise from other teams and the media.

That's Brent Stehlik and he's going to be working hand-in-hand on the business side with Scheiner. No hand in football ops.

I believe it was either Scheiner or Stehlik, but one of those guys was originally reported to be charged with handling player contracts. I only remember it because people got up in arms over Banner shirking the duty when he was originally going to be the contract guru for the Browns.

At this point, I assume Brown will handle miscellaneous contract negotiations, and any significant contracts or disputes will be a collaborative effort. Thanks for the response though.

I wonder if we didn't do much in free agency because we didn't have anyone to negotiate contracts :chuckles:. Seriously though, stories of him coming in at like 10 or 11 am just pissed me off. I liked Heckert a lot, but I'm glad Holmgren got canned. Shurmur hire, laziness, and forcing Heckert to make picks he didn't want, he really hurt things. Really Heckert is all he did right.

How do we know Heckert wasn't on board with the Shurmer hire? Also how do we know he forced Heckert to make a pick he didn't want. If I remember correctly he talked highly of Weeden.

Im really excited about this roster with Chud and Norv, fellas.

Just stop, Heckert is gone you don't have to keep trying to trash him. Heckert wasn't going to bad mouth the guy they just picked in the first round, of course he'd talk highly of him. There were articles written that both McCoy and Weeden were Holmgren picks.

As far as Shurmur, you have to be absolutely thick to not get that was Holmgren all the way. Or was it just a coincidence that the underqualified shitty coach was his buddy's nephew?

Shurmer was the hand picked selection of Holmgren, who worked with his uncle Fritz during his Packers days.

Silly to force yourself to believe otherwise

I don't know if Chud/Banner will continue with the trend or not, but I am going to miss Heckert's delicate way of acquiring picks. TH set up whomever the personnel people are with a pretty good off-season of picks as well as cap room. He truly took a clean slate approach with how much flexibility the Browns' roster had. Also, you've got to wonder if a guy like Emmanual Acho will thrive as an outside backer in the 3-4.

I've been reluctant to speak out about this hiring because it's so vanilla. I didn't expect some flashy hiring so I don't hate Chud. I'm glad he's a browns fan though. He'll understand the passion and commitment the fans of this city have for the football team. I remember Shurmur talking about the Cleveland 95 show. He kinda shook it off and said the team isn't going to pay attention to it. I feel like Chud would have reacted different being a fan of the browns.

I also think it's a smart hiring for Banner. Taking a guy with a love and passion for this team, not just a guy looking to cash a paycheck. It'll be interesting to watch Chud's first team be his hometown team. Does it add pressure? Yes. But he knows the fans of this city and what we want.

So, am I the only one who read this?

"Looks like it is time to make a return to a familiar place for some unfinished business," Anderson posted on his Facebook page, according to Jeff Schudel of the Lake County News-Herald. "I'd be honored to return to Cleveland to play football if the fans would have me."

Looks like it is time? Really? This presumes some sort of deal is being worked out. I get that Colt doesn't really fit into what the new O will be like, but DA? I'm a little taken back.

Derek Anderson returning to Cleveland would be hilarious. I am trying not to literally laugh out loud thinking about the possibility.

Much rather see what Weeden can do in the new offense. I'm a Weeden supporter but hell, even the Coltites have to support Weeden over DA.. right?

Right?

Right?

He knows he burnt the bridge upon his departure and that we can make his life hell.

Whats wrong with Derek Anderson? I think is a competent choice to sign here.

He is very comparable to Weeden in skill set and this is very desirable. For one, you don't have to worry about changing the game plan between these two players. If one goes down to injury the other can jump in mid-game and run the same exact game plan. We couldn't do this with a Colt/Weeden combo, because they are two vastly different players.

It is also desirable in terms of a quarterback competition. Having two players who play the same style allows them to push each other without wasting first team reps. The first team plays the same playbook and there is no need to tailor the offense to separate players.

A big reason it took so long to make the Tebow switch in Denver was because Tebow ran a completely different offense from Orton. There is a lot of reps that need to be taken in practice to instill a whole new playbook midseason. With a Weeden/Anderson pairing, there isn't a whole new playbook needed (..for Colt. cough cough) in order to run an effective offense. Every snap taken for reps will be utilized to the fullest extent.

I'm not sure why people are mocking this attempted signing. It is smart from top to bottom for a new regime without their hand groomed pick at quarterback. It's a low risk move and I would applaud it.

I know how he left, but he could say plenty of other things ("I'm a new man. Can't wait for a 2nd shot to get this right. I can't wait to be back. We have unfinished business. I was young then. My best years, or year, was in Cleveland"), and he comes up with a variation of "I'll come back if you let me"? I just don't remember seeing something like that. Is he going to check his Facebook likes to decide? :chuckles:
