Browns @ Raiders: 4:25 P.M. December 2, 2012

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It would be higher if he would stop throwing the ball to the opposite team at inopportune times.

No picks occure at "opportune times".

But if my QB is going to throw picks, I'd rather him be throwing them down the field instead of when we're backed up on our side of the field. Both of Weeden's picks were at least good changes of field position. His improvement is obvious. If you can't see that by his increasing comfort in the pocket and progressing through reads, then you're just standing up for your stance when we drafted him.

He's been awesome for a rookie QB and he can make all the throws. His transition into his 2nd year is going to be key, but I think we have a keeper.

Not for nothing, but literally every time he's played a team one of my friends roots for, they've commented on how good they think Weeden will be. Giants, Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, Colts.

Means nothing, but I've found it interesting. I think at this point, it's impossible to doubt Gordon.

The nice thing about Gordon is a two pronged effect. Not only is he playing the number one receiver really well... but Little also seems much more comfortable out there. He had some nice catches yesterday.

I've experienced the same thing. It doesn't necessarily mean nothing, IMO.

People like b00bie are saying that the Weeden supporters only like him because he's "better than Colt McCoy". Well I think the Weeden haters don't like him because we have tried to develop so many duds that they are scarred and butt hurt by every mistake or interception. The guy can make all the throws. He's starting to show fearlessness in the pocket. He is a leader and can forget a mistake and move on as soon as the very next series.

Weeden looks to have the makings of a good QB that can lead us to a playoff berth, and it seems like everyone who watches the NFL sees it except for the legion of Browns fans who irrationally refuse to believe it.

It means nothing until he starts beating those teams I mentioned on a regular basis, and the Steelers win doesn't REALLY count because Roeth wasn't back there. :chuckles:

Weeden has shown noticeable improvement, he still misses open receivers more often than I'd like and he does some dumb shit with the ball when he is about to get sacked but he isn't bad. At least we aren't rolling with Blaine Gabbert or even Mark Sanchez. Now those guys are fucking awful with no signs of life.

I will just take it as a make up for the years we had Bruce Gradkowski starting for us.

Oh? Then I guess the Raven's loss doesn't count yesterday either to that same team.

working with people who are from all over the country, every time they see the Browns play their team they also tell me how impressive Weeden looked...i still can't get over the fact he's 29 though

Weeden is never going to be a guy that carries a team. Don't think anyone has ever envisioned him as that guy.

If he can ever limit turnovers, and learn just a little bit of rush evasion, he can be a guy who can be the QB of a run oriented team and good defense that doesn't screw it up.

He's just not consistent in his accuracy.

I've never seen so many people complain about a guy after a win.

Green Bay fans probably thought the same of Favre.

Who cares? Bernie played from 85-93 on the Browns.

This is partially true, I'm not taking anything away from Gordon here, I just think a lot of Little's improvement has to do with Little himself. His biggest issue was mental, but he had some major technical problems too. He seems to have fixed his technique (not holding his hands too far apart). Basically Gordon turning it on and fixing his technique allowed him to get out of his head and just play the game. The two of them look like they could be a really solid tandem down the road.

What Browns fans want to know is, when will the Browns be competitive? The most critical element on a football team is quarterback, and the Browns haven't had a definitive answer at that position since Tim Couch. So when you see people complaining about Weeden, it's not so much him as the long term prospect of this team. If Weeden can be the guy, then we might have a shot in 2-4 years to do something special. If Weeden is another bust, we're not replacing him next year, so we're at least 4-7 years away from relevancy. Make no mistake, Weeden is our future. If he isn't, this team will need to "blow it up" sometime in the next couple years. That's what fans are afraid of.

Green Bay fans probably thought the same of Favre.

And they would have been right. Brett Favre was a very good QB, and he'll make it into the HOF because of his longevity. But Favre had as many terrible moments as great ones in his career. He crossed through two very different QB eras, and in the modern era, QBs need to be better at limiting turnovers. They also need to be more effective at completing passes regularly. Brett Favre is 18th all time in completion percentage; a testament to his success vs. his peers. But of QBs with at least 4 years starting, 10 of the guys in front of him are current NFL QBs, showing a dramatic shift in the trend.

Favre may have been able to make some bad decisions and still lead a successful career, but the competition is stronger now, and Weeden won't have that same margin of error. His arm strength is useless if he can't improve his decision making. It isn't too unreasonable to expect him to improve over the next couple of years though.

I do think Weeden has started to regress since the bye week. Some of that is likely due to opposing offenses getting time and film to adjust to him. He needs to continue to develop, and take that next step.

What I really want to see from Weeden is 4 solid quarters of NFL play. I want to see him run a game from start to finish without making a significant mistake.

I"ll disagree with that. Weeden has the arm that could carry a team very far in a passing game offense.

Yes but he has the poor decision making and bouts of inaccuracy that will kill a passing offense. No one misses passes and turns it over at the rate Weeden has and lives to tell the tale for very long. If he improves on both, we're fine at QB for a while. If where he's at right now is pretty much his ceiling, we're going to be looking at the QBs in the draft instead of playoffs this time next year. It all depends on how he develops.
