Browns @ Raiders: 4:25 P.M. December 2, 2012

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yes but he has the poor decision making and bouts of inaccuracy that will kill a passing offense.

Still a rookie. Decision making can easily be fixed.

The bouts of inaccuracy are HILARIOUSLY overblown. Looking, it's the NFL, guys are going to throw picks. Brees has games where he cannot miss the other team. Yet he can still carry a team to the Super Bowl.

The question was, can Weeden carry a team, and with his arm, he could easily do it.

Of course, for every INT he throws, he makes up for it by throwing two TDs. Once Weeden gets his ratio a bit closer to that, I'll be more confident in his accuracy.

Who is saying he can't get there?

If only it was all about arm strength.

Oh, and just a little tidbit. With the 3 games that we SHOULD HAVE won, but didn't, we would actually be 7-5 right now and in second place in the AFC North.

What Browns fans want to know is, when will the Browns be competitive? The most critical element on a football team is quarterback, and the Browns haven't had a definitive answer at that position since Tim Couch. So when you see people complaining about Weeden, it's not so much him as the long term prospect of this team. If Weeden can be the guy, then we might have a shot in 2-4 years to do something special. If Weeden is another bust, we're not replacing him next year, so we're at least 4-7 years away from relevancy. Make no mistake, Weeden is our future. If he isn't, this team will need to "blow it up" sometime in the next couple years. That's what fans are afraid of.

And they would have been right. Brett Favre was a very good QB, and he'll make it into the HOF because of his longevity. But Favre had as many terrible moments as great ones in his career. He crossed through two very different QB eras, and in the modern era, QBs need to be better at limiting turnovers. They also need to be more effective at completing passes regularly. Brett Favre is 18th all time in completion percentage; a testament to his success vs. his peers. But of QBs with at least 4 years starting, 10 of the guys in front of him are current NFL QBs, showing a dramatic shift in the trend.

Favre may have been able to make some bad decisions and still lead a successful career, but the competition is stronger now, and Weeden won't have that same margin of error. His arm strength is useless if he can't improve his decision making. It isn't too unreasonable to expect him to improve over the next couple of years though.

I do think Weeden has started to regress since the bye week. Some of that is likely due to opposing offenses getting time and film to adjust to him. He needs to continue to develop, and take that next step.

What I really want to see from Weeden is 4 solid quarters of NFL play. I want to see him run a game from start to finish without making a significant mistake.

Does anything you just said matter if the Browns win? You play to win the game. I don't care if it's by a point or 100, looks ugly or pretty, and is because of our offense or defense. You play to win the game.

Absolutely. Step two is to win more than you lose. We still need to get there.

If they would have won the five games they shouldn't have in addition to the others they shouldn't have lost, they'd be undefeated.

So think about THAT!

Thus far I've been very impressed with his performance against bad teams.

It's not. It's about being able to read a defense, it's about being able to thread a needle, and it's about protecting the ball.

Weeden can do about half of that right now. The added bonus of his arm strength helps too.

Now, continue to boobie and insult anyone who doesn't conform to your opinion.

I'm not insulting anyone, but simply saying he has 'the arm to lead a team' is...not enough.

Weeden is never going to be a guy that carries a team. Don't think anyone has ever envisioned him as that guy.

If he can ever limit turnovers, and learn just a little bit of rush evasion, he can be a guy who can be the QB of a run oriented team and good defense that doesn't screw it up.

He's just not consistent in his accuracy.

Oh, you can tell all of this from 12 rookie season games with: a rookie RB, rookie WR1, 2nd year HC, no consistent check-down TE (until this week), and a system that opposes one he played in while in college? Damn dude, you should be a scout.

He does have the arm that could lead a passing team.

Now he just needs to make basic 2nd year QB developments.
