C.J. Miles signs with Cavs ($2M/year, 2nd year is team option)

re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

Interestingly, Martell Webster is still out there in free agency. Webster was taken in the lottery of the same draft as a prep to pros player, and he has very similar career stats:

Have there been any rumors regarding how much Webster is likely to get?

Webster has the better efficiency numbers...

I'd still rather sign Brandon Rush over Miles or Webster even though Rush is more of a SG rather than SF.

Agreed, but dont think Rush's agent would want him to come here to play out of position or compete for minutes with the #4 overall pick. Just an opinion though, i could be wrong.

You are probably right Lee but he's not going to get a starting gig at this point. There are minutes available at SG where we need size and shooting from that position.

If you're looking to find another young cheap player as insurance for Gee leaving, I'd consider taking a look at Terrence Williams before Miles. He started his NBA career on the wrong foot, but in his last stint with Sacramento, there were no issues, as far as I can tell (and I follow Sacramento closely). Taking into account small sample size and the dysfunctional organization, he did pretty well. And some of his teammates were vocal about their wish to have him return to the team.

You look at his per 36 minutes stats and advanced stats, he's a tremendous rebounder at the defensive end and a very good passer for a SF. If he understood what it takes to make his career in the NBA and is serious about it, he could be a very good role player, IMO.

One possibility is that the Cavs have caught wind that Gee will likely get an offer that is beyond what we'd want to match (whether dollars or years or some crazy backloaded crap like the Rockets did with Linn and Asik). We obviously value cap flexibility going forward very highly so it would make sense in that case to do our due diligence on backup plans. As much as I like Gee - and I'm not wild about Miles - it's unlikely that either of them is going to be our starting SF for too many seasons, if any.

Yeah, neither of these guys is a difference maker on a real contender, so the Cavs are smart not to overcommit. I like Gee too, but if he wouldn't see the court a whole lot on high seed playoff team.

re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

I was a fan of going after CJ Miles before last season, when he had sort of a breakout 2010-2011 season.. Last season was a down year and he took a step back in his development... The thing that has interested me is that he's a 7 year veteran yet he just turned 25 years old, which means there's potential there to develop into a valuable piece, if given the chance... I feel like he's a player that needs to go to a new system and an environment to reach his potential... Right now he's an average player but he does have the talent to be a top-end bench rotation player on a good team..

I'd take him for cheap but I wouldn't take him over Gee...

re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

Keep in mind a coaching change did take place in Utah (sloan to corbin), and some of the players didn't take it too well (including Raja Bell, another wing player). That's something that hasn't been brought up and although I'm not trying to make excuses, that could have been one of the reasons he regressed.

re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

I actually like his game. Last year was rough, but when given time he's shown to be a decent shooter in the past. I have always seen him as more of a 2 though...

re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

With the Kennedy trade, Cavs could more smoothly add Miles along with Gee to the roster. And Gee can always sign back on regardless if the Cavs don't rescind the qualifying offer.

I don't think the Cavs should bend over backwards for either player. But not having Gee under contract and working out with his new teammates feels like a lost opportunity.
