Can Cleveland Cavaliers Survive with Smoke and Mirrors at Center?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I honestly don't see being a factor this year. He might play the odd 5mins in a blowout but those are my expectations.

This guy hasn't shown a pulse in 3+ years and it's not like he was a world beater to begin with.

Miami would of killed to have this center rotation.

Exactly. Miami never had anyone like Varajao. Health is certainly an issue, but Andy will be great with this team. If BH can contribute at all we'll be in pretty good shape. I'd of course like to pick up another NBA level role playing big, but I don't think we need to worry a ton about it.

Wish we could have found a way to keep Zeller, but obviously we used his value to make it all happen.

Where do people come up with this? The Birdman put a PER of 18 with good defense (he had strong APM an RAPM number) for them last year. In fact, he's a far better rim protector than anybody we would have and if traded to the Cavs, he'd be guaranteed to play as minutes as he did last year with Miami. The combo of him and Bosh at C was quite good. The problem with them is that had no other big who was even remotely good last year: they were playing literally corpses like Battier out there. I'm not a fan of Tristan but he's far better then anybody Miami had after Birdman/Bosh

For the record I'm not just talking about last year. The fact Anthony played meaningful Mins says it all

I would think Love gets some minutes at C.. Small ball... We have Matrix, we will use him so small ball will be there, even if James is not playing the 4 spot. TT will play 25 mins at least...Love 35...Matrix 15/ 20...That does not leave a lot of burden on AV or BH.

NBA free-agent C/F Lou Amundson worked out with Cavs last week, Hoopshype reports. Cavs among teams Amundson considering.

I have always liked Lou Amundson's energetic defense, but he certainly fits the thread title of smoke and mirrors at C...

I think the Cavaliers will be ok for this year. However, I think they'll need to find an athletic option going forward. There are still some quality options in the next couple drafts (AJ Hammons, Willie Cauley-Stein are good options that can be had outside of the Jahlil Okafor and Karl Towns). While my favorite choice (Timofey Mozgov) is still out there, I don't think he's going to be coming to the Cavaliers anytime soon. A guy that I haven't seen mentioned, that could be had much easier, is Meyers Leonard. I think he'd be a good option to have on the cheap to grow with the team. He could be had, financially, for John Lucas and a few 2nd round picks. Would Portland bite when they have Robin Lopez, Chris Kaman, Thomas Robinson, Joel Freeland, Viktor Claver, etc?

That Kravtsov guy from the Pistons got signed. Not that anyone was keeping an eye on guys that were in the league 2 yrs ago- but he was a shotblocker supposedly.

Slava Kravtsov, who played last 2 years in NBA, signed contract with Foshan Long Lions from China! Departing from Ukraine this week!

Be a good pickup as bench depth. If we can't make a trade.

I would absolutely love getting Motiejunas with this roster. Not a ton of defensive presence, but his offensive skill set would fit in very nicely. YET ANOTHER big who can help space the floor and stretch defenses? Sign me up.

Motiejunas has been talked about on this board for a long time, and it has seemed like a real reach in terms of whether the Cavs would be fortunate enough to acquire him.

So, I am going to say there is no way in the world that the Cavs manage to snag him. Because that's what I also said about Marion.
