Can Cleveland Cavaliers Survive with Smoke and Mirrors at Center?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm really getting worried about this position as we are so dependent on AV: Tristan at C is a real gamble IMO - his Opp PER was not good at C last year and his lack of ideal size allows guys like Gortat or Nene to bully him or just shoot over him. The East if other teams hold up, actually has some decent to very good frontlines with C's who are good offensive players (Chicago with Gasol, Charlotte with Jefferson, Washington with Gortat/Nene). Tristan put up big numbers when moved to the C spot earlier his career but teams adjusted and he hasn't been nearly effective there since then

On top of that his inability to finish like a C really could hinder what otherwise should be an awesome offensive starting lineup. Teams may do what they did to Ben Wallace on the Cavs (leave him open and rotate hard if the ball rotates to him). If he's open he's going to have go up without gathering forever as we have so many passers in the starting lineup they are going to get him the ball if he's open
The only way to preserve AV is place other bodies at the 5 spot. But I don't like it either.

Jermaine seems available after reports that GSW aint signing him

Can the team drop Bogans to sign him for a year contract and still afford a max next year?

I could be mistaken but I don't think we'd have to drop Bogans if we wanted O'Neal. Even with Bogans on the roster I think we still have slots to sign people because the other camp guys are nonguaranteed contracts (Amoundson, Kirk, etc.).

Cavs could sign O'Neal to a vet-min contract without dropping Bogans. They do need to get down to a 15-man roster (either by trading players or waiving them) before the regular season.

By this time next year, we are going to be stacked at center. We sign/S&T for one in free agency, we draft one with one of our 1st rounders, and we sign Andy to a cheaper contract who can now move all the way down to our 3rd string center if we want him to. Or possibly even trade for a decent one this year who could still be here. It will be awesome.

Is that Haywood? If so, that pic seems to confirm that my eyes were not lying to me during Summer League - no way is Kirk a legit 7 feet.

Why yes. Yes it is.

Wow. Haywood looks huge. And not just his height his shoulders and body just look massive. I think he will work fine this year as a 5-10 minute a game guy to clog the paint and go against the few centers that might push Andy and TT around.

Maybe it's just me, but Miami held on with Z and Joel at center. Doesn't it seem like Brendan is becoming like Z and Tristan is like Joel, not just in style but in nationality? I don't know what that means, but if it works out, we can hold on for a couple years. I'm liking our chances.

I love comparing pics to figure out height. Haywood looks much taller here than even Andy. He a good guy for Tristan to go against to get comfortable guarding bigger stronger guys. Hopefully Haywood beats the shit out of Tristan in practice.

Haywood just looks so slow out there. He does remind me of how slow Z was during his last few years. Hopefully he can still be like Perkins and be good for one thing and still play good post defense. That is if he can get down the court in time
