Mo would be a very good depth option for the PG position.
If KI gets hurt (when he gets hurt) he's an upgrade over Delly.
If he's willing to take what they can give him, which isn't much, it's a good deal for all parties involved.

For those against going after Mo, there's not many other realistic options for PG in free agency:

* = RFA

Andre Miller
Alexey Shved*
Gary Neal
CJ Watson
Norris Cole*
Cory Joseph*
Shane Larkin
Ronnie Price
Aaron Brooks
JJ Barea
Ishmael Smith
John Lucas III
Will Bynum

Biggest move according to the sports media will be a new head coach in spite of what Griffin just said. They're pushing this narrative hard. This shit gets so old.

I'd take Norris Cole from that list, but he's RFA and we really can't offer much... The only thing about Mo is that he'd get destroyed defensively. Though given the PG options, he seems the best of the veteran bunch. We also ironically need a wing, a 3 years ago Shawn Marion would have been awesome, really someone who can defend 2s and 3s. Miller can't do it anymore either. JJ puts his effort in but gets abused when guarding 3's and overpowered on bigs

Mo is probably our best option for a FA point guard because he likes it here and would be willing to take a "home town" discount of sorts. If we got Patty Mills in a trade though, I would prefer that route.

The eight year old me that cried when we traded Andre Miller would cry if he came back, regardless of how awful the fit is.

Anyone know what the actual options around the league might be if we use haywood + pick. Like what are we looking at in return. Other than the mills/splitter idea. Any other ideas out there?

It's tough, because most of the guys that would be really nice fits aren't options because of our S&T restrictions (above the apron).

If you look through the list of players under contract (and teams who would likely trade with us), this is realistically who MIGHT be available (not a list of guys I necessarily want).

I included guys with player options. Not sure if the CBA precludes those guys from being moved after picking it up (if they did).

PG

Brandon Jennings
Patty Mills
Monta Ellis (player option)
Ty Lawson

Wings

Matt Barnes
Corey Brewer (player option)
Nick Young
Aaron Afflalo (player option)
Nicolas Batum
Rudy Gay
Wilson Chandler

Bigs

David Lee
Jared Dudley
Thiago Splitter
Nikola Pekovic
Ryan Anderson

There isn't a ton to get excited about on that list. A handful of guys that can help but no potential home runs IMO. Also throw in how unlikely it is that 3 of those guys pick up their option and this list gets even less sexy.

On this list, I'd certainly take Splitter and Mills, but I can't imagine San Antonio gives up both even if it allows them to get a big fish free agent, and even though the Cavs don't need Splitter. I probably would prefer to have a secondary trade lined up for Splitter.

I think Anderson and Lee are only worth considering if Love leaves, and I don't think he does, and I think even the narrative around the league is starting to cool on his leaving.

I'd take Barnes only on a veteran minimum at this point. If really desperate maybe the mini MLE, but I doubt it.

Not a huge Wilson Chandler fan frankly, but would I guess I would take him even if as only a one year rental. Would I give up the 24 pick though? Probably, but it's close.

Would prefer Marvin Williams since he can play the 4 too. Would give up the 24 pick for him.

I'd take Batum if Portland decides to go into rebuild mode. Would be very expensive though to have him as a bench guy.

Another guy missing here is of course Wade. Haywood, Miller, and 24, plus Harris if Miami wants him would be the deal if Miami wants to go that route, though of course only if Wade opts in. It's not a lot for a future Hall of Famer who is past his prime, but still a good player.

I'm not sure if Belinelli and Diaw could be had but I would rather have them over Mills & Splitter (especially if we shore up Mo as another ball handler).

I still maintain that Splitter would start over Moz, but I think with time to improve/gel Moz will be solid next year. Belinelli would be a fantastic back-up for LeBron - but I'm not too sure of his defense.

Diaw's contract at first glance is probably a bit much, but with the salary cap going up and compared to what guys like TT and AV will make it's a steal.

Wondering about Koufos for MLE. Would fill need for athletic big. He could likely get more money elsewhere, but might take discount for a ring and to be "home". He was at game 3 versus Hawks.

Belinelli is a UFA, so he's a no go (unless here were willing to come for the mini-MLE).

I agree with you that Diaw would be great, because he would give us something different than the more traditional "big" play that Moz, TT, and Andy give us. His deal is also only partially guaranteed in 2016 and fully nonguaranteed in 2017, so we would be protected in case he goes down hill.

I'm guessing we would have to throw our 1st in for a Diaw and Mills deal, but I don't think the Spurs would be totally against it.

Is it possible for Belinelli to sign a contract first and then be traded?

If you replace Belinelli with Mills, I think that would put a nix on Mo returning.

He could be signed and traded, but for us to receive him we would have to stay under the tax apron all year which means we would basically have to gut our team.

Such a move only makes sense if you're getting someone like LaMarcus Aldridge (as @gourimoko so feverishly desires), not a role player like Belinelli.
