Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis (Speights, Selby, Ellington, and pick for Leuer)

The short story is that the Memphis pick will go to Minnesota since Memphis will make the playoffs but the original language of the trade makes it require some more complicated legal agreements for any future picks unless Memphis just drops these 2013 conditions now.

Memphis' own 2013 1st round pick to Minnesota via Houston (top 14 protected in the 2013 Draft, top 14 protected in 2014, top 14 protected in 2015, and top 14 protection in 2016 Draft). If Minnesota via Houston has not yet received this first round pick by the 2016 draft, then so long as Memphis' own 2016 2nd round pick is among the top 55 picks then Minnesota via Houston shall instead receive (1) Memphis' own 2016 2nd round pick and (2) cash. If, however, Minnesota via Houston has not yet received this first round pick by the 2016 draft, but Memphis' own 2016 2nd round pick is not among the top 55 picks then Minnesota via Houston shall instead receive (1) Toronto's own 2016 second round pick via Memphis and (2) cash. [Houston - Memphis, 2/24/2011 and then Houston - Minnesota, 6/24/2011]

So essentially if Grizzlies make playoffs Minny gets their 2013 pick and then Cavs get 2015 pick if pick is 6-30

Speights is a Top 30 PER Power Forward.

Which is of course better than Tristan ;)

Exactly! If the kid gets minutes he could be very serviceable, also ironic John Hollinger's stat is being used, yet Hollinger included him in trade lol

You're reading it right.

So if this thing goes down the way we think it can, in the 2015 draft we could possibly have 4 #1s.

And if things go the way some think, *cough* LeBron *cough*, we have a ton of fire power to move up and get a stud piece to put next to an already exciting team.

Wow just a fantastic job by Chris Grant. Literally made something out of nothing.

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis

He's definitely more of a 2 than a 1.

At first I thought this too, but then I looked up his size and he's 6-2, 185ish, which would make him slightly smaller than Kyrie. But I remembered him as being a thick, athletic combo guard... Has anyone here watched him a lot?

Well, he technically made something out of taking back over six million dollars of salary.

@CAGrizBlog: Source confirms Speights, Ellington, Selby and protected first in 2015 to Cavs. Griz receive Jon Leuer and $6.4 million trade exception

They will either let it expire or forfeit it immediatly. I cant see them using it to take on more salary.

This mass acquisition and saving of assets is impressive, eventually they need to be cashed in. I'm guessing ~2014 will be that time ... going to be an agonizing wait, that year could be one of the biggest for the Cavaliers in history for numerous reasons.

I love Grant. Nice trade, IMO.

Agreed, but I mean has money ever really mattered? We lose no future assets, and don't mess with our future cap.

Re: Cavs In Talks With Memphis (Speights, Selby, Ellington, and pick for Leuer)

I watched the griz vs Pacers game yesterday and Ellington is not just a throw in. He can shoot the three and finish. I think the Cavs got a major steal with this trade.
