He was pretty good all around at the Eurobasket.
Still not NBA ready, IMO.
But he has great BBall IQ, moves very smoothly on O and seems to sometimes be able to think two steps ahead on both ends of the floor. Has a very nice smooth jumper.

Stash him in Europe and bring him up next season.

Cavaliers’ Cedi Osman plans NBA jump in 2017

Tristan Thompson is the Cavaliers’ best unsigned asset, but he’s hardly their only one.

Cleveland has the Brendan Haywood trade exception, all its future first-round picks but one and the draft rights to No. 31 pick Cedi Osman and No. 53 pick Sir’Dominic Pointer.

The Cavs won’t see return on Osman, who plays for Anadolu Efes in Turkey, for a while.

Osman, via Eurohoops:

"In my mind, in the summer of 2017, I’m going to make the big step and go to the United States to play in the NBA."

"At 22 and after some full seasons in the Euroleague and the TBL, I’d like to go to the NBA and begin my effort there. I’m happy that my rights are owned by the Cleveland Cavaliers and I hope that when I go there, I’ll meetLeBron James! I have a lot to learn from him!

Everything in life has to happen at the right time."

Osman is a good passer for a small forward, and he’s athletic. He could become a nice NBA player, though his shot needs major work. I rated him a low first-rounder.

The Cavaliers, facing the luxury tax, surely appreciate him developing on someone else’s dime.

I'm not at all sure that Euros and the Euroleague itself would just sit by if NBA owners started buying Euroleague teams and treating them as farm teams. In fact, I'd guess that there's no way they'd let that happen. These teams are national teams in which a lot of national pride, etc. Is invested.

They are not national teams, they are clubs, businesses. Hell, most of them change their names for a new sponsor. Most of them would embrace the cash i think. There's precedent in soccer, a lot of the big clubs have farm teams all over the place. And there are some weird smaller conglomerates, like the Red Bull network, or the Charlton-Standard-Alcorcón system.

Anyway, not sure there would be much resistance.

cedi's season has started, they're 4 games in. he hasnt played much and pretty much only has taken threes.

you can track his progress here

http://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/competition/teams/showteam?clubcode=IST

just click on the players pic and it shows their stats for each game

I didnt realize Cedi was teammates w sixers draft pick, Dario Saric and former OSU star, John (Threebler) Diebler. Threebler is shooting like 58% from 3 through first few games.

Cedi is playing well lately... averaging 10 points, 4 rebounds in 22 minutes in his last 6 games in the Euroleague with 58.5% fg, 45% in 3p (9/20). 3/3 in FT. Small sample size, but improving

Interesting, Windy said yesterday he was having a poor season and that they could trade away his rights.

Interesting, Windy said yesterday he was having a poor season and that they could trade away his rights.

Windy did say -- this was on his Friday Hey Windy show -- that some teams have asked about him. Main problem seems to be that he isn't playing. He is shooting well in his limited minutes.

10 ppg and just under 45 percent from 3 in 22 minutes a game in league play
Euroleague 38 percent from three 7 points per game getting 19 minutes a night
Still has a long way to go in terms of development, but still worth tracking.
Without a first rounder 2 of the next 3 years, hopefully we can hit on this kid long term.

So I found a story that apparently this guy has been pretty good this year and even outplayed Dario Saric. I think he is still signed over seas until after next year but he could be our JR Smith replacement down the line

Watching his highlight reel, he honestly reminds me a lot of a young Ginobilli. Just from his combination of size, athleticism and playmaking.

It's tough to assess a season in a reel but he has way more athleticism than I was expecting or have seen in his previous tapes.

The one thing I would like to see is defensive tape of him.....and not just chase down blocks. I want to see how he defends one on one, to get a sense for how ready he is or isn't to try to make an NBA jump.

I'm actually surprised the Cavs aren't really pushing to bring him over. They finally have an environment where they can bring along someone like Cedi slowly, while getting him valuable practice time against NBA players.

If they continue to punt on him jumping to the US, when they have open roster spots, I'm guessing that probably means they don't love him at this point.

Given this draft has a good chunk of guys who are mature, potential NBA role players in spots 20-40, it wouldn't shock me if Cleveland trades Cedi's rights to a team in that range.....wether it be a contender wanting to bail out of their pick or a young team wanting to develop him.

I think it is mixture of he would not see much playing time, would cost more then picking up a vet on the minimum, and probably want him to develop overseas where they could trade him, or bring him in in a few years when he is ready. Once we bring him over the clock start on his contract, and we really don't have a spot for him.

between Osman and Cook we seemed to have found a couple of really young guys to stash and develop instead of having to bank on free agents that could be solid 2nd rotation players, though in Osmans case i wouldn't be surprised if he started if we cant re-sign JR past next year. i can see Cook taking Mo Williams spot, especially if we cant re-sign Delly this year (which i see no reason why we cant)
