Channing Frye

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would have preferred Morris, but that's a pretty good pick they got from Washington -- we couldn't match that.

Excellent move. Frye can defend and space the floor and even play with Love. I believe he'll shoot even a higher percentage now that he'll get open looks he never had. Love can play at the elbow and do more of what he does best. Who will Golden State double in a lineup of Love, LeBRon, Kyrie, Frye and JR? Neither LeBron nor Kyrie can be stopped one on one in the lane. LeBron gets the floor spacing he wanted when he was with the Heat, a la Ray Allen. Our bench also just got a valuable scorer with JR starting.

Plus, if Kevin get injured, Frye is a natural fill in.

Love Andy, but he's injury prone, well past his prime, not a good fit, redundant, expensive, and did engage in a tough hold out during his contract year, so he knows this is business, I believe. Maybe he returns July 2017?
Stay t
Just an excellent move and we still have two roster spots for buyouts?

The Cleveland Cavaliers adding Channing Frye creates the spacing needed with the second unit

With nearly a 7-foot wingspan, new Cavalier Channing Frye (right, against Washington's Garrett Temple) can add more than just a 3-point shooting touch. (Alex Brandon, Associated Press)

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – The Cleveland Cavaliers had to make a move by the trade deadline and they did so by trading for stretch-four Channing Frye of the Orlando Magic.

It's an addition that will save the organization around $10 million in luxury tax penalties, but is more clearly a move targeted at a possible Finals matchup with Golden State or San Antonio.

Frye's arrival doesn't just enhance an already deep Cavalier frontcourt. It insures that head coach Tyronn Lue has the option of having a perimeter threat from a big on the court at all times.

The paint was too clogged whenever Tristan Thompson and Timofey Mozgov shared the court. It cut off driving lanes for LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Spacing is essential for the way the Cavaliers like to run their half-court offense.

Frye is also a solid low-post defender and can spell Kevin Love late in games if a defensive lineup is needed. He's a decent shot-blocker too. Cleveland dealt away center Anderson Varejao and guard Jared Cunningham, two guys who didn't play often, for a rotation fixture.

At 32, Frye is equally desperate to win a championship and is a consummate professional. His locker room presence will be just as a vital component as his on-court resume.

Does this move help them gain ground on the Warriors or San Antonio Spurs? Assuming Thompson plays most of the center minutes, the 3-point threats surrounding James are any combination of Kyrie Irving, Matthew Dellavedova, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Iman Shumpert, Love and Frye. Yet this improvement was also about internal needs. The talent is there. It's about consistently and buying in to a team-oriented spirit.

The Cavaliers' move was not about solidifying their place in the Eastern Conference landscape. It was about giving them a better chance of matching up with their Western Conference foes.

It's championship or bust.

The problem for Lue now lies in distributing the minutes and incorporating Frye into the fold with 30 games left to play. He admits his team still isn't quite there when it comes to playing at his accelerated pace and the defensive intensity has slipped a bit.

Owner Dan Gilbert isn't messing around. Now it's time for management, coaches and players to produce. The ingredients have been purchased, with the possible exception of a waiver wire addition. It's time for a championship meal.

I can live with this trade assuming we are making another trade or picking up a bought out player. Frye could fit well with our team.

Anyone know what Frye is like in the locker room? And bad history of behavior issues?

Apples to oranges. Antwan was asked to be an all star caliber/second best player. If this trade doesn't work out, it's not going to break the team and the Cavs are back to having a big sit on the bench unlike the Jamison trade.

I think a bigger problem was that when we got Jamison everything was on the verge of falling apart.
We had a lot of chemistry issuers going on. We got old shaq who took zs starting spot for no reason other than name. We had the whole delonte thing.
Then we traded z to get Jamison and when z did come back Mike Brown sat him the entire game where he was set to become the cavs all time minutes leader.
On paper getting Jamison and getting z back was supposed to make us beasts but alot of other non basketball things threw shit off

I wonder when we will see him in a game? I would guess not until Sunday. Seems unlikely he'd be here and in uniform tonight.

Ultimate Proffessional. savy Veteran. and what i heard hungry for a Title as Hell.. he asked Orlando internally for a trade to a Contender.

Way if the Cavs don't? It take two teams to trade you know. If this is the only trade made then so be it.

We gave up a 1st round pick for Channing Frye. Just let that sink in. We give away picks like candy. Unbelievable.

Will try to keep that in mind during the Finals that we are missing out on players like Tyus Jones, what a massive shame. (all while being the minimal cost of keeping flexibility for an entire extra season with a new trade exception).

I'm thrilled we didn't trade for Markieff Morris. Guy has become unbelievably overvalued this season - IMO just because he's been one of the only players readily available to any team all season. One of the best misconceptions in the league is that Markieff Morris can shoot. Out of the 100 players with at least 400 3PA's since 2012-13, Markieff Morris shoots the 10th lowest percentage (31.8)... And looking at the guys ahead of him, more than half either don't shoot 3s anymore, or have improved their percentages.

Wizards got fleeced in their deal for him.

No, we gave a pick to get rid of AV's albatross contract.

We could have just sent a second to Orlando for Channing Frye (that's all they got for him in the end anyway).

We traded a first to send away AV. That saved us $40M on the cap this year. A late first round pick only costs about 5-10M to buy later.

Great deal.
