Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

For the record, Cowher picked the Browns to win this game.

So... keep that conspiracy in mind. :chuckles:

So did Steve Mariucci............ shit.

Stability at HC means nothing if that HC simply can't coach...

Stability for stability's sake is just stupid. The guy has shown no redeeming qualities as an NFL head coach. His play calling is horrific, his time management is possibly the worst I've ever seen in the NFL, he has no personality and no real ability to amp up his players. I have very little faith in his ability to coach up young players, which is something critical to this team. Literally the only advantage to keeping him is you have some stability.

Of the coordinators mentioned my favorites are:

1) Dennison: The Texas offense is truly a perfect fit for this team. They're all about play action and running the ball. The same thing this offense should focus on with Trent at RB. They manage to get Foster around 25-26 carries a game and still send a lot of carries Tate's way.

2) Fewell: I generally prefer defensive minded head coaches. Downside here is he'd likely want control of the D himself so Jauron may find himself without a job. On the plus side, nobody who is available out there has as much experience dealing with a talented D-line as he does. The Giants have a nasty defense when their secondary isn't gutted, and it's all because of how their line plays. Something that's looking like it will be a strength of this team once they manage to land one more starting caliber DE. The line looks really solid this year and that's with 2 rookies playing major roles. Add in Taylor and you have a intimidating, nasty, deep, defensive line. Fewell is certainly a guy who could take advantage.

There are others I like as well but those two are my favorites.

I've said those exact words in numerous threads here. Well done.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Kudos for Shurmur for his first win. I don't particularly think he's a great coach, nor did I think he was a great hire; however, I see what H&H might have been trying to accomplish with the hire, and I am a Browns fan regardless. That said look no further than Holmgren's first year with Mangini to realize that sticking with someone else's HC choice, just for continuity's sake, is not a good idea....especially when you are dealing with non-elite coaches like Mangini and Shurmur.

This is not Randy Lerner at the Owner's Table, a guy who was the benefactor of having his father make all the family duckets; this is Jimmy Mutha Fuckin Hasam III, the guy who took some pretty bold risks expanding his father's business into a dominating franchise. I think unless the Browns go on a pretty amazing finish to the year (I'll guess over .500), then Pat will be shown the door.

Re: Who is our head coach in the 2103 Opener

Whoever the next coach of the Browns is will look like a genius. Heckert has put together a young and improving roster. It lacks depth yet, but the next guy will have a roster ready to make a step forward.

I get the feeling that many Cleveland Browns fans are unknowingly rooting for the "Mangenius" sequence of events to take place in Cleveland.. They want a winner now, ala NY, and don't care how the team gets there. If a coach comes in with those goals, he picks up veterans, wins for a year then sucks again because his vets got old. Demanding success NOW is great, but not realistic. That is how you end up with 2007 then 2008 and so on.

The problem with the Mangini approach was that he didn't do anything except add veterans. He blew every chance this team had to add young talent. The Browns have a pretty talented team now, they're just very young and inexperienced. Adding some veterans wouldn't be a bad idea because they could help the young guys grow.

My post and I agree with that. What I'm saying is that it seems like the folks demanding instant success are inadvertently rooting for the Mangini approach. Sure, you can add some needed veterans, like the Browns have done in the past 2 years; however, signing some schmucks to make the team marginally better next year is not going to work. Even more, those people that called for them to do it will say that the TEAM's plan failed without admitting or understanding that it is exactly what they've been asking for.
