Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I haven't a clue what the best path to a QB is for this franchise. They've blown so many opportunities and made so many bad decisions that it seems like the impossible dream. Now, it seems like the team's OL and overall defense is good enough to keep them just high enough in drafts to miss out on top prospects...forcing the team to have to really overpay to get their guy. Now names like Bradford and Rivers are popping up, and I am not sold on either of them being the man if they arrive. Bradford has the injury concerns, and Rivers a) can leave soon via FA (I think) and b) doesn't seem like he has too many years left. It just seems to me like Rivers has an older body than his age says he should have.

I hate this damned if you do and damned if you don't set of scenarios with this team and that position. I seriously don't know how I will react to the time when the Browns have a top QB on the roster. I will sit on Sundays and think to myself, "I can't believe we have this guy on our team." It will be like I am on football Saturdays now with the Buckeyes when I sit and smile and think, "I can't believe we have this guy coaching our team?" but it will be even stronger since the Bucks were coming off of Tressel whereas the Browns have had nothing but crap for so long.

Rivers has probably 4-5 years left in him which outweighs the risk of taking an unknown in Mariota. Not sure how that isn't option A, IMO.

Rivers would retire before hauling his tribe to live in Cleveland...

as opposed to plugging in a few more marginal pieces that they've been doing for ten years and just continuing in the same cycle of suck.

I agree with you for the most part, but I don't see getting a WR, DE and a DL as just plugging in some marginal pieces, with the names that are involved with us.

And I know it's Johnny and blah blah, but sending out 3 fucking picks after ANOTHER year of drafting a QB in the 1st to do it all over again, just pains me.

If Rivers is linked and he actually would come here, for the long term, I would definitely hire Pacquiao to punch him once in the back to see how he actually is. Make sure our doctors think he is okay. Not just believing him saying, "Oh yeah, I was doing the worm all weekend, just couldn't catch it on video.."

How long is long term for a qb entering his mid thirties? 3-4 years?

3-4 years in CLE for a football player is an eternity. So yes.

I forgot, the whole we havent had anything in cleveland so lets jump on the qb at the end of his career thing. Like all the people who wanted Peyton, as if two years of him would have won us a superbowl.

I wouldnt be down on Rivers. But i wouldnt be super excited either. Would prefer a young guy we can build around.

Pauline just reported today that the Browns are the favorite to land Mariota. This guy is covering all tracks here.

Same old story - make it look like the Browns tried hard (and maybe they do) but we end up playing the fool in the end.

History tells you this is a virtual certainty. I still am holding out hope that the Browns either: A) come out looking good; and/or B) cock block the shit out of the Eagles (if they try to get Mariota).

Rivers or Bradford is much more realistic, IMO, than grabbing Mariota. I think Mariota would fit great under Chip's offense. IF Chip really wants Mariota I think they will end up with him.

What about a scenario where Bradford ends up in San Diego, Rivers in Cleveland and Mariota in Philadelphia?

Who cares about a balky back, I'd grab onto a legitimate veteran QB at the first opportunity like I'm 12 years old scoring a fistful of training bra and tissue paper.

I personally don't think San Diego makes a move for Bradford. They only move Rivers if it means getting Mariota. Plus, we're neglecting the team that will have to cooperate in a trade-down with one of the aforementioned teams to even allow for this to happen.

If we're thinking of how possible it is, I'll just say I think the Browns are more likely to make all of their picks as they currently stand than this scenario playing out.
