I have been sick, to the point of nearly vomiting, since we first started watching the live broadcasts today around noon.
Being a firefighter, I have seen some horrible things; being a father, all I wanted to do today was leave the station and get home to my two kids. My wife was in a no-tv/phones/etc meeting until 2pm, then started bawling once she heard the terrible news. We (FD/PD/etc) like to think that things we see on shift don't get to us; that's pretty much true until there are children involved. I can't even imagine what thoughts were in the heads of the SWAT guys making entry to the school, with kids screaming and bodies everywhere; all in this small town where faces are so familiar.
I've never shot a gun before, nor have I ever thought different of anyone for owning a gun; just has never been my 'thing'. I'm for changing gun laws, not sure what but I don't think the status quo is working. There are lots of teachers in both my wife's and my family, and I'm not sure what they'd do with a CCW on their person-not speaking poorly of them, just thinking aloud.
Not sure where to begin after today...I guess just count down the hours until 730am tomorrow, and enjoy the kids' post-shift hugfest.
My wife posted this on FB, not sure where she got it: "I think the Mayans simply suffered a typo; it's not the end of the world, but the end of humanity". Another friend, and ex-military guy, posted this: "Once upon a time, kids used to be off limits. The End."
