DeRosa traded

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
DeRosa trade thus far = monster fail.

Perez's ERA as an Indian: 23.14.

What's next Shapiro?

He came in today with the bases loaded and gave up a grand slam to Konerko (the 1st batter he faced). :chuckles:

Well so far in St. Louis, DeRosa has gone 0 for 9 and just got himself on the 15 day DL so I think we broke even at least!

:faint:

Haha yeah I still like the trade and Perez's potential but damn...his career as an Indian isn't getting off to a good start.

Jess Todd, isn't he supposed to be a really good prospect?

I like Todd.

IMO, these types of pitchers are never a sure thing, but if you pile up enough of them, you'll often get a few that turn out to be pretty damn good. They are the types with two solid offerings (for Perez, his fastball and slider; for Todd his sinker and cutter) and can progress into a star or above-average pitcher if they just add one plus-pitch.

Todd was ranked as the #5 prospect in the Cards organization prior to this season by Baseball Prospectus's Kevin Goldstein. It's is a subscription article, so I'll only post Todd's and not Perez's.

Year in Review: The Cardinals' 2007 second-round pick began his full-season debut in an aggressive assignment to High-A, and pitched well enough to finish the year just one step away from the big leagues.

The Good: While Todd can get into the 91-93 mph range with his straight fastball, he prefers to sit in the upper 80s with his sinker and cutter, which both grade up due to their movement and location. He mixes in a good slider along with a solid changeup, and he'll throw any pitch at any point in the count. His short, stocky frame is built for durability, and his clean arm action allows him to maintain his stuff deep into games.

The Bad: Some are still turned off by Todd's body—his height and arm angle provide little downward plane on his pitches—and some feel that he doesn't project as well as his numbers would lead one to believe due to his lack of a true knockout offering.

Fun Fact: In each of his two starts against San Antonio (Padres) in the Texas League, Todd fired seven shutout innings while allowing just one hit.

Perfect World Projection: He'll be a solid mid-rotation starter.

Glass Half Empty: He may have to settle for being more of a number-five type.

Path To The Big Leagues: The back of the Cardinals' rotation is in flux, so the opportunity is there.

Timetable: Todd will begin the year at Triple-A as one of many candidates for an extra starting pitcher should the need arise.

Jess Todd has a 10k/9 and only allows 2BB/9, has 24 saves at AAA and is MLB ready.

He was one of the best closing prospects in baseball. That was quite the trade.

SEATTLE -- The Indians have acquired right-hander Jess Todd from St. Louis to complete the Mark DeRosa trade. He will report to Class AAA Columbus in the next couple of days.

Todd, 23, is 4-2 with 24 saves and a 2.20 ERA in 41 appearances for Class AAA Memphis. He has 59 strikeouts, 13 walks and 39 hits in 49 innings. His 24 saves currently leads the Pacific Coast League. The opposition is hitting .214 against him.

He made his big league debut with the Cardinals on June 4, allowing two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings against Colorado. He struck out two and walked two.T

Todd, 5-11, 210 pounds, was the Cardinals second round pick in 2007 out of the University of Akransas.

The Indians received right-hander Chris Perez from the Cardinals on June 27 in exchange for DeRosa.

Another closer who can throw a 91MPH fastball!!!!!

I can barely contain my excitement. The Indians are ON THEIR WAY!!!!!

Pretty sure Todd has been throwing harder than that since moving to the bullpen fulltime. I won't go crazy over him until he gets to Cleveland proves he belongs, but for now, a solid addition. I also think Perez is coming around:fingersx:

Of course, if you want truely DOMINANT minor league reliever #s, check out this guy and this guy at Columbus.

Yeah, but Wick never had nearly the strikeout rate that this guy has..

59 strike outs in 49 innings, pretty sure he throws more then a fastball... And I doubt he's a closer in the future, probably a set up man.

He was STL's #4 rated prospect for 2009.

We got great value in this trade. Shapiro will look very smart in a few years.
