DeRosa traded

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
how could anyone be fed up with josh barfield? If anything be fed up with the fact that wedge is "romeo crenneling" him by not giving him a shot to play.

Back on topic: I cant wait to see this perez guy reach his full potential so we can trade him for even more potential.

what a fun circle.

In 109 at bats in Columbus, Josh managed to bat .220
In 2007, he had 420 at bats, and managed 90 Ks, 14 BB, 50 RBI, 3 HRs, and hit .243
In 2008 (Buffalo), he had 299 at bats, and managed to hit .251 with roughly the same output (proportionally).

I think that's plenty of opportunity.

I see your point but what more does he have to do to get playing time when he comes in and gets an rbi single then sits for 3 games. Not in the minors just sits. I think he needs some more playing time before a full judgement can be made.

We just disagree. But who cares, its josh barfield.

To dismiss Perez as chump change is asinine. The kid is a stud. One of the best young relievers in the game (only 23). Rumors have Jess Todd or Brett Wallace as the PTBNL, which would be fantastic. Doubt it's Wallace, as he's one of the top prospects in baseball, but Todd is a very good player. Perez is a hard-throwing RHP who should be the closer of the future. We've need Relief pitchers and we got a stud. DeRosa was gonna walk after this year anyways.

This deal really was a no brainier. Like posted above, Perez is pretty nice and no team wanted to give us anything worth while really. People say the market would go up by trade deadline. I believe it would have gone down with teams knowing we were desperate to deal.

^
That and a few factors to consider:
1. What if DeRo got hurt? The trade wouldn't have gone down
2. What if the Cards get completely out of the race? The deal wouldn't have gone down.

Perez is good based off his "ability" and "stuff", not numbers.

Just like Carmona. Just like the Perez we already have (Rafael). Good stuff, little control and thus the numbers and results aren't there. But don't worry. Carl Willis produced two Cy Young winners! So Chris Perez will be in good hands.

Sorry, but you're calling some kid who has done nothing at the major league level a "stud" and I take issue with that. He may throw hard but he is not a shutdown guy or anything like that, which is what we need. At least, he isn't at this moment.

As for the PTBNL, we'll see. If that's the centerpiece of the deal I like it more. I don't care that DeRosa is gone, I agree he was leaving one way or the other. If the PTBNL is a great prospect then I like the deal.

Betancourt doesn't have bad command, he started off rough because he was too predictable. All he was throwing was outside fastballs, which batters were sitting on. Before he got hurt he was mixing in some more breaking pitches and some change ups. He still needs to stop excessively using the outside part of the plate but he started pitching like his 07 self before he got hurt.
And that's the one thing I'm worried about with Perez. He has a great arm, and with good teaching he could become a top set up man in the league, but we don't have good coaching right now to help with possible command issues.

Exactly. And I dont think anyone said Betancourt has bad command. However, now that you mention Betancourt (I didnt) I will say in 2007 he got by with near perfect command and he hasnt had that since.

Nerves, baby. Just nerves :chuckles:

Amazing how an RBI single has turned Barfield into a HOF player overnight...

I miss read the beginning of your post with Rafael, I thought you were referring to Betancourt at first.

This is so right. The biggest problem with allowing Wedge and Willis to continue on this year is the very fact they are the coaches trying to teach the youngsters. Wedge and Shapiro continue to say that it's the "injuries and bullpen silly" as to why the team sucks this year. That's crap. The Indians have actually sucked for seven straight years. In 2007 we overachieved, then chocked it away at the end. Willis cannot teach pitchers. He can't understand what has to be done to fix something, so he sends a pitcher to OTHER coaches who do know how. IE: Carmona

Keeping all these bad coaches in the hopes of having a better outcome the end of this year and next year is not going to get it done. How you coach playing or pitching means much more than Shapiro seems to think. EACH coach is different in every way. I'm very worried that the Dolans just don't understand this and we will have this Wedge/Shapiro combo along with all the current coaches through the rest of the year. This would be the worse possible scene.

The Indians made a decent first sell off trade by dealing DeRosa, but what about the other trades that are coming? Are we concerned at all that Wedge has his hands on this stuff? I'm very concerned.

DeRosa trade thus far = monster fail.

Perez's ERA as an Indian: 23.14.

What's next Shapiro?
