Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Idk, I remember going home from work early when lebron scored like 30 points in the first quarter against the clippers.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

BJ Mullens had 33 points and Wes Johnson 24 tonight. Just sayin.....

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I really hope Waiters sheds some weight at some point over the next year. I don't really expect him to shed it before the start of this season. He is still living the good-life of being a new millionaire. He also doesn't know how much the extra weight is hurting him right now. He will learn that as the 2012-2013 goes on.

I am hoping to see Waiters show up to next year's summer league about 10 to 15 pounds lighter. Once that happens, then we can fairly evaluate him.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Great interview by Waiters after the game. Very insightful and engaging with the the announcers; definitely didn't big shot them. He knows his jump shot is outta whack and what he needs to do to correct things; release is off, he's off-balance, shoulders not squared, etc. He seems to be VERY hard on himself and Brent Berry told him at the end of the interview to "Relax, Dion, you're playing great." This kid is gonna be great.

Speaking of Wes Johnson, against all forms of reason, logic, and statistics, I still have some faint hope that he could still turn into a quality rotation player despite every indication that he is just a bust. Why do I think this? I just can't figure it out.

Im not really sure what your saying. If your saying they cant do that in the NBA . then you would be mistaken.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

I'm not going to quote any post in particular, but here is my opinion on the Wade comparison...

It doesn't make sense to compare Waiters to the player that Wade is in his prime. Present day Wade, in his prime, would kick rookie Wade's ass. Comparisons to Wade at this point are being made on potential of what Waiters has shown so far. If you can see the comparisons, realize that they are based on his potential to get to that level someday.

Summer League game's need to be taken with a grain of salt or perhaps sedative's around here...:chuckles:

I think his point was pretty clear. Mullens and Johnson aren't looked at as "good" players yet they just lit it up in the summer league. His point is just because someone is putting up good summer league stats, it doesn't mean they will be good in the NBA. On the flipside, just because someone is struggling in the summer league, it doesn't mean they won't be good in the NBA.

Caspi has had his share of 20+ point games and I don't know anyone that considers him a good player.

And that's putting it nicely.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

watching that vid really got me excited for what the Kyrie and Waiters duo could be. Having 2 dynamic guards in the starting lineup is going to be spectacular. I have a feeling that this upcoming era of Cavs basketball is going to be the most fun to watch of any era. Lebron's teams won games, but watching Lebron dribbling at the top of the key for 20 seconds on every play was not enjoyable basketball. I'm ready to watch a real team, not a one-man show. and that's what we have here, a real team. the next few years are going to be fun. We've got 2 explosive guards, and 2 agile big men. And if Gee comes back, you know he can throw it down. it's going to be showtime people. that lethargic Lebron-era offense is long gone.

The bad Boys of Cleveland, I like it.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Numbers to look at: Wade played 34 min, scored 15 points or so, shot 45%ish and 30%(3's) his rookie year. I dont think thats unrealistic for my dude Dion.

I also think we're setting ourselves up for disappointment if we continue to compare him to Dwayne friggin Wade.

But we really have no idea at this piont, its all speculation and conjecture.

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Minus the jumpshot I thought this this game illustrated why the Cavs were high on Waiters.
He got to the hole easily
Was able to finish inside with a combo of dribble moves (spin inside) and off angle shots (switching to his left)
Also I was impressed with his playmaking: he really didn't force anything and got his teammates great looks whether they were inside or outside

Now if he could only fix his jumpshot and get in better shape for that that little extra explosion he needs to finish off the bunnies he blew

Re: Welcome Dion Waiters

Dion definitely came in out of shape. Dissapointing, but not the end of the world...Kyrie came in out of shape last year too. It doesn't take long to strap on some extra pounds and lose your wind. Dion wasn't under anyone's control....now he is. We got him and he's doing everything asked of him so far. So I dont think it was a work ethic thing, more of a maturity thing. I think he slacked off a bit especially when he had a promise. There wasn't any doubt in my mind that he was going to start slow. Having Kyrie injured has only made things harder for Dion too. So it's a combination of things we're seeing so far. He's been working out twice a day, he's not in NBA shape yet, Kyrie is out so he is pressing a little more. Result - he's tired and not playing well yet.

The good news is that he has 3-1/2 months until the season starts. I'm confident he will be in shape when the season begins. He's going to get better training than he has in his life. The cavs will teach him the best ways to improve his strength, conditioning and diet. BScott is going to work him out a hell of a lot harder than Boeheim. When camp begins there are chefs on hand that feed these guys their breakast, lunch and dinner...that will help. Dion's a passionate kid that wants to succeed. As he matures and bonds with guys like Kyrie, I think he'll buy into what it takes to be a successful NBA player. His attitiude has been great so far. It's just going to take time.

I wish I could thank this post ten times. Pin point on spot post.

Look out they are going to have break out years!!! This Is the summer league not the Play offs and I admit I want to see Waiters kill It In these games. Yet I will say It again, for the exception of LeBron, Shaq, and maybe Wade, Players like Bryant, Jordan, and Garnett started off slow and got better... so hope Is there for waiters just wait and see. He as the right coach, team, and city to put Him In great place In this game. Kyrie Is our man Waiters our our Pippen bottom line. We can only hope he becomes our Mini Pippen.

I see more along the lines of Harden's rookie season.. 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists on 40% shooting. 2 seasons later, James put up 17 pts, 4, and 4 on 49% shooting. I really hope we don't crush this guys confidence and actually let him develop. He'll probably be limited to the 23 minutes or so a game Harden played.. on the contrary Wade played 35 minutes.. which Waiters will absolutely not be playing.
