Dwight Howard Saga

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No, just no. A fanchise tag would be a terrible thing in the NBA. A bigger advantage to the home team sure, but not a clause saying you can't leave your team ever. That's just stupid. If a team is well managed then it can put the talent around their star, and thus keep them on their team, if not then the player should leave. The owners have no loyalty to the players, so why should the players have loyalty to the franchise.

ok, first of all i wasn't seriously suggesting a franchise tag, i said that these divas would deserve one, for punishment not for a brighter future for the league.

but lets say the franchise tag was an option. you say it would be a terrible thing for the NBA. Is it worse for the NBA than a Heat team with Howard, Bosh, Lebron and Wade?
also the franchise tag dont has to be permanent. you could introduce one that is only valid for lets say 2/3 years... If that helps to prevent that these superfriends join each other then for me it would be a legit option to discuss.
But it might just be me and my euro-view things. I noticed that in the USA in sports there is a certain "star-culture"...

Personally I don't like a star culture, but the NBA has become all about the stars. The stars draw the fans, the stars win the games, the stars lose the games. Now we have stars joining teams. It isn't right, but hopefully it ends with this bitch made group.

They're using the trade machine on ESPN.....oh what are they thinking

The Jazz owner is possibly cheaper than Savar. They haven't been in the luxury for years because he doesn't want to spend.

Amare may not have been worth the max, but look at the trash they decided to sign instead of Amare.

Carmelo isn't a superstar, and his teams never had enough talent bar one season to go far in the playoffs. Are you really trying to make an argument using AI as a positive argument?

Carmelo's teams, especially the last few years, did have enough talent. What you'll notice about all those Nuggets teams except the one season they actually made it past the first round is that Carmelo played like shit in the playoffs. So to then turn around and say "you haven't put enough talent around me" is a little misleading. It's more like "you aren't a good enough star player to build a team around in the first place."

But Melo won a NCAA Championship with little talent around him...

So Orlando tells Dwight, they'll add a 'quality' player before the deadline. Who's this quality player? Orlando has no assets lol. Nobody wants Nelson, J-Rich, Hedo, Reddick, and so on. I'm curious to see who this quality player is gonna be.

Melo wasn't a goo enough player to win a championhip with. That is exactly my point, you trade Bron and Melo (as in Denver gets #1 overall) and the Nuggets likely win a championship. Melo needed more help to win a title, ergo the Nuggets didn't have the talent to win. You're arguing for me I think.

No joke. I read above that Westbrook is a cancer? I see that he would be a disaster with Dwight. So, one would think that if he were this bad for a team his team itself wouldn't be very good. But, instead they are the best team in the West, by a wide margin. Now either that means that team is so loaded with talent elsewhere and Scotty Brooks is such an amazing coach that they can overcome the harm Westbrook does....or it means Westbrook is a really good basketball player.

So, anyway, the idea that a team would actually turn down a Westbrook/Dwight/Durant trio just because Westbrook has an ego seems effin insane to me. Super young, super athletic, and would rule the West for the next 7 years.
You are missing the point.

First, he is a bad fit with Dwight. That is not really debatable.

Second, the Thunder being so good does not mean he isn't a suboptimal fit with Durant and especially Durant & Howard. Miami is the best team in the East and likely the league. Yet Wade is quite obviously a suboptimal fit with LeBron and Bosh. How does that happen?

Your last paragraph is moving the goalposts. I wasn't suggesting they turn down that trio, I was suggesting that they alter the deal to make an even better trio (or probable group of 4, bc if OKC included "all-star" ninja turtle instead of harden orl would be more inclined to include anderson)

harden durant anderson howard >>>>>>>>> westbrook durant howard

This is ugly.

Who the hell cares about sub-optimal fits and optimal fits and whatever else. The Heat, by sheer talent alone, are probably going to win a title this year. And does it matter Wade and LBJ don't fit perfectly together? No.

The same would hold true for Westbrook/Durant/Howard. Who cares if they aren't exactly perfectly fitting together because they would just beat teams because of a huge talent gap.

And frankly, Harden isn't even close to being as good as Westbrook so the idea that you'd choose him over Westbrook to be on your team just doesn't make sense to me, unless you already have a star quality PG.

Dude, re-read your initial post on the matter. YOu were claiming all of those teams had "no talent outside of the star." This is just untrue in the case of Denver, and even moreso in the case of Phoenix (in which case the "star" was never the best player on his supposed no-talent team). The problem with Denver isn't tha the team had no talent, but Carmelo wasn't good enough. Put Kobe or LeBron on that team, and you make at least one finals appearance. In other words, Carmelo had to leave not because he wasn't surrounded with enough talent, but because he is incapable of being a number 1 on a championship team, which is more about him than Denver.

I generally can't stand Stan Van Gundy, but he's handling this idiocy beautifully.
