ESPN Player ranking - The Cavs players

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No need to quote a guy who couldn't hack it in finance. I worked for a hedge fund myself.

As for those players you listed. They all accepted the "role player" moniker, despite their irrational confidence. Those players were willingly ready to take a backseat or play the 6th man role. Jason Terry has publicly taken and even asked his coaches to do whatever it took to help the team win. When coming off the bench, they made the best of it by trying to win the 6th man award.

Dion Waiters? "Nah mang, I ain't going never wanna be no nothing but a starter nah mean?"

I promise you this. If/when Waiters is asked to come off the bench (which we will have to if we want to win), he will pout, complain and moan. He will want to get traded.

Terry wasn't consistently a 6th man till his 8th year in the league. Dion is far from a perfect player but these arguments that people tend to make against him hold little water.

Without mentioning names I think someone is on pace to actually have more /ignores than "likes".

In the interest of staying on topic...I think Dion belongs inside the top 100. I bet his ranking will skyrocket going into next year...

Thank you for being basically the only person in here to bother understand the context of what I wrote.

A perfect example of a cancer would be Gilbert Arenas. Had phenomenal gifts on the court, but his off-the-court tactics, his attitude, and his lack of humility created a glass ceiling for the team he played for. If I owned a team and I had an option of picking Arenas or an NBDL level player, I'm picking that NBDL player with high character first. I'll take some early losses, but a good org will eventually lead to bringing in future high-character talent, and eventually a winning team eventually.

Dion Waiters is not a superstar, all-star, or franchise player in this league. Because of that, he's considered a role player (anywhere from 4th option to 8th option on a contender), correct? So ask yourself this, does he have the characteristics of the role player we've watched over the years on championship teams?

IMO, the perfect role players have these characteristics:
1. Unselfish and understand their role
2. Willing to sacrifice and take fewer shots
3. Be the go-to defender if they had to, or a spot up 3pt shooter if they had to
4. Guys respect them in the locker room. They don't say much, but when they do, people listen.
5. Willing to do nothing but the dirty work to help the team WIN.

Examples: Horry, Kukoc, Rodman, Bruce Bowen, Bryon Russell, Rick Fox, Fisher, Shaw, most of the players on the Rockets 93-95 team, Byron Scott, Nick Anderson, Horace Grant, Kawhli Leonard, Shawn Marion, Tony Allen, James Posey, Tayshaun Prince, Shane Battier.

Dion Waiters is not a superstar or even all-star, but he's also not THE ROLE PLAYER because he has visions of grandeur. He's the type to think he's better than Kyrie, better than LeBron and better than MJ. Legit role players understand humility and know their role. Waiters already publicly announced he's unwilling to come off the bench. Really Dion? What if you coming off the bench is for the betterment of the team?

Let's just hope that having LBJ and other vets around can help him. Otherwise, it's a good idea to trade him while he has some "value". I'm indifferent towards him emotionally...I just think he's the next Michael Beasley.

That's one of the worst things I've ever read on this forum. That's just blasphemous. HOW DARE U SAY HE'S THE NEXT BEASLEY!?!
Dion Waiters has an All-Star POTANTİEL and SKILLSET. PERIOD. He can handle the ball, shoot very well, create for others and he has tools to be a great defender strong upper body, quickness wingspan etc. What u mentioned is guys who has only one or two skills that makes them ROLE PLAYERS and Dion has all the skills more than those guys had and a SUPER-TOUGH MENTALITY. And i like it. All the teams need that type of guy. A guy that some nights came to game to dominate his machup. He's not dumb or something, he's on LeBron's Ass all summer. Beasley was on Bron's team too and he did nothing, NOTHING. Beasley couldn't even defend someone and couldn't even on the court in some meaningfull minutes.
Dion was great last year even with that stagnent, Iso balled, no spaced team. His numbers are IDENTICAL as Wade's last year per 36min and he can attack the rim ferociusly like Wade. His in paint percentages were bad because of that non-spaced offence. See him this season while playin LEGIT shooters.
Sorry but i just don't buy you watched him before or something. We'll might be one of the teams that has 4 All-Stars in one team and ı'm pretty sure he's not on the table or front office didn't even thought about trading him.

I like Dion as much as the next guy but we need to be careful with the Wade comparisons. Wade in his second year put up 24ppg on .56 TS% and a PER of 23+. Dion hasn't gotten anywhere close to those numbers. It doesn't mean he's not a talented player or won't be extremely valuable for us but I highly doubt he's going to reach that level of production either. (Wade is after all going to go down as easily a top 5 ever SG)

One thing I have learned are there are very few basketball experts. Potential is really really hard to gauge. Careers can easily get derailed, and even when you are right people don't remember that. They remember when you said Delonte was going to outplay Kobe.

Just have fun out there, fans.

Apologies for bringing this back on topic, but Varejao was revealed earlier today at #76.

Yeah you're right. I remembered his 2nd year but it was last year and PER 36min.

I haven't missed very many Cavs games since the early 90s. It used to take more effort before DVR. It pains me that many of the same guys that cheered for Jordan/Bulls are now Cave fans. Just take comfort in the fact that when/if we win, long time fans will have earned it and enjoy it so much more than the mentally weak front runners.

I predict that if a similar list comes out after the season, Waiters will be top 35 and Irving top 10.

Exactly maaan he kicked our butt for so long that days 'the shot' etc. Hope LeBron do the same against them. Jordan never lost to Cavs. LeBron never lost to Bulls in playoffs too. Hope that's not gonna change.

Dwight, top 10? My ass
I hear he has really been working on "enter offensive feature here" over the summer though, and we should expect big things from him this coming season.

Dwight, top 10? My ass

Had a great playoffs though

One could argue his second best series

Besides... That other one...

Glad he is paired with that chump harden though, if Dwight is smart he should go else where, maybe out east, by that time we should be so good it won't even be a concern

Dwight, the most overhyped player, year in and year out. Sure he is a dominant player but he has relied on his strength and athleticism is whole career.

His offensive game hasn't changed in 6 years. Still can't shoot free throws, still can't play with his back to the basket, still hasn't developed better court vision. All he has developed his entire career is his ego.
