You was one of the very few then because everyone thought Hafner was gonna be great. Did or did he not have like 8 grand slams in one season? The guy was amazing in that year and he deserved a pay day but now he's a below average player getting payed superstar type money.
Indians catcher/first baseman Victor Martinez stands as one of the bigger names remaining on the trade market. The 30 year-old, who is under control through 2010 with an affordable option, is hitting .284/.368/.464 in 435 plate appearances this season. The option jumps to $7.5MM if he's traded, plus up to $1MM in incentives.
We've seen the Red Sox and Rays linked to V-Mart, though Joe Smith and Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times doubt the Rays' desire to add Martinez without Cliff Lee. Sean McAdam of the Boston Herald says the Red Sox already rejected a "one-for-one proposal that would have sent Clay Buchholz to Cleveland for Martinez."
Meanwhile, Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports say "other, unidentified teams are believed to be interested in Martinez as well."

Thats key. Rays are probably out of the picture. And the Red Sox aren't willing to give up Buchholz. Who do you think the mystery team is? I would've thought it was the Giants before the trade yesterday. What about the Dodgers? They might want Martinez.
LOL
ESPN 850 just said the Tigers are interested in Victor.
Gimme a fucking break, the only thing the Tigers have that we'd want is Justin Verlander. And that's not even taking into account it'sa division rival :chuckles: :chuckles:
Would never ever ever ever ever ever happen, why even express interest?
Victor Martinez | Indians | Interested: Red Sox?
According to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney, the expectation of rival GMs is that the Indians will trade Victor Martinez before Friday's deadline, but sources indicate that the Indians are telling other teams that they are not intent on dumping the veteran catcher, and that they will need to solid return to move him.
That's because Martinez still fits on the Indians next year, the Indians are saying, in a similar role he's played this year -- catching the majority of the time while getting some time at first base as well. It would be an ideal way to transition Lou Marson, the catcher they got from the Phillies, to the major league level next year.
The Red Sox remain the team in the best position to make a possible deal for Martinez, according to Olney, but rival executives say that Boston has been active on multiple fronts -- at a time when the Red Sox have multiple concerns, from a struggling lineup to a weakened rotation to a bullpen that has been inconsistent of late.

The Indians must get a haul for V-Mart
"Lou Marson? The future backup isn't the motivating factor here; how can we forget the Indians already added Carlos Santana in last season's swap that made Casey Blake a Dodger? No, the reason the Tribe can and should hold out for good stuff for V-Mart is because he's worth it, a catcher with a .294 Equivalent Average who should yield up a pitching prospect as good as if not better than Carlos Carrasco from the Lee deal. If the Red Sox don't yield that up, there's nothing that doesn't say the Indians hold onto their quality slugger to keep splitting his time between the plate and first base, and then play for better stakes at the Winter Meetings." - Christina Kahrl
The Dodgers have Russel Martin who at this point is playing about as well as Martinez is. Looking at the stats are deceptive because Martin started horrible and Victor started the season extremely well. I would be very surprised if the Dodgers made a move for Victor.
