Re: Indians to trade Victor?

I will only accept 29 year old single A prospects.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

You was one of the very few then because everyone thought Hafner was gonna be great. Did or did he not have like 8 grand slams in one season? The guy was amazing in that year and he deserved a pay day but now he's a below average player getting payed superstar type money.

Yeah, he had a ridiculous year. But, Hafner is not the only lefty to have his struggles. Many of the power lefthanders have struggled. I think, "The Shift" is the demiise of the left handed power hitter.

But I love Pronk, and I hope he stays.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

Indians catcher/first baseman Victor Martinez stands as one of the bigger names remaining on the trade market. The 30 year-old, who is under control through 2010 with an affordable option, is hitting .284/.368/.464 in 435 plate appearances this season. The option jumps to $7.5MM if he's traded, plus up to $1MM in incentives.

We've seen the Red Sox and Rays linked to V-Mart, though Joe Smith and Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times doubt the Rays' desire to add Martinez without Cliff Lee. Sean McAdam of the Boston Herald says the Red Sox already rejected a "one-for-one proposal that would have sent Clay Buchholz to Cleveland for Martinez."

Meanwhile, Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports say "other, unidentified teams are believed to be interested in Martinez as well."

Thats key. Rays are probably out of the picture. And the Red Sox aren't willing to give up Buchholz. Who do you think the mystery team is? I would've thought it was the Giants before the trade yesterday. What about the Dodgers? They might want Martinez.

Having a .917 OPS and an OPS+ of 135 is hardly below average. However, that doesn't mean he's worth the money he is being paid.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

LOL

ESPN 850 just said the Tigers are interested in Victor.

Gimme a fucking break, the only thing the Tigers have that we'd want is Justin Verlander. And that's not even taking into account it'sa division rival :chuckles: :chuckles:

Would never ever ever ever ever ever happen, why even express interest?

The Dodgers have Russel Martin who at this point is playing about as well as Martinez is. Looking at the stats are deceptive because Martin started horrible and Victor started the season extremely well. I would be very surprised if the Dodgers made a move for Victor.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

All quiet on the trade front so far. I'm kind of doubting Martinez gets traded, but it makes no sense NOT to trade him, now.

Only if they gave us Rick Porcello. Or Justin Verlander, I suppose, but that would be a giant ripoff for the Indians.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

Regardless, All Stars almost never get traded within the division I'd imagine.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

Victor Martinez | Indians | Interested: Red Sox?
According to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney, the expectation of rival GMs is that the Indians will trade Victor Martinez before Friday's deadline, but sources indicate that the Indians are telling other teams that they are not intent on dumping the veteran catcher, and that they will need to solid return to move him.

That's because Martinez still fits on the Indians next year, the Indians are saying, in a similar role he's played this year -- catching the majority of the time while getting some time at first base as well. It would be an ideal way to transition Lou Marson, the catcher they got from the Phillies, to the major league level next year.

The Red Sox remain the team in the best position to make a possible deal for Martinez, according to Olney, but rival executives say that Boston has been active on multiple fronts -- at a time when the Red Sox have multiple concerns, from a struggling lineup to a weakened rotation to a bullpen that has been inconsistent of late.

Baseball Prospectus
The Indians must get a haul for V-Mart
"Lou Marson? The future backup isn't the motivating factor here; how can we forget the Indians already added Carlos Santana in last season's swap that made Casey Blake a Dodger? No, the reason the Tribe can and should hold out for good stuff for V-Mart is because he's worth it, a catcher with a .294 Equivalent Average who should yield up a pitching prospect as good as if not better than Carlos Carrasco from the Lee deal. If the Red Sox don't yield that up, there's nothing that doesn't say the Indians hold onto their quality slugger to keep splitting his time between the plate and first base, and then play for better stakes at the Winter Meetings." - Christina Kahrl

You're forgetting Martinez also plays 1B..

If they include Loney in the deal, they'd have room for Martinez

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

I wonder how demanding Larry Dolan still is at further reducing the payroll, even after all these trades that have already happened. Even if he is now content, I still believe Victor will be traded.

Everyone in the front office should be on the hot seat right now, especially Shapiro. He's even publicly blamed himself for the dismal season to relieve the scutiny on Wedge. With that said, Shapiro will do what ever it takes to please the owner.

This organization appears to be in a deperate situation right now. Unfortunately, this reduces Shapiro's leverage in maximizing the return on these trades with other teams.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

The indians had a good 5-6 yrs in the 90s and now we are going to go back to 30 yrs of horrible baseball all over again with the Dolans in charge.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

I think the Management has watch the movie Major League one or two too many times.

Re: Indians to trade Victor?

I don't see how or why Victor is not traded since Lee is gone. We have gave up on next season already so there is zero reason to keep Victor. The Indians can say that Victor fits in for next year, but why? Wouldn't it be in the best interest of Victor AND of the Indians to trade him now? We already know he would be traded next year so why wait? Victor cannot be happy by seeing all the trades this week. He wants to go to a team with the possibility of winning it all. Why deny him of that? Why would we keep him knowing we are not going to win, and taking up a few spots that our young players could be gaining needed experience?

I just don't see any benefits to keeping Victor now. If we didn't trade Lee and didn't act like we have given up next year, then sure, keep him, but that's not what is happening.
