I disagree with this, too. In a make or miss league, and when the playoffs slow down to a half-court grind, you can NEVER have enough shooters. Especially when one of those shooters is in the conversation for best shooter in the league.

Furthermore, there's no guarantee that JR will return to form, and given how CRUCIAL JR is to our team's makeup, Korver provides a partial insurance plan.

And finally, you can ONLY say this doesn't fill a need because you do not yet know the FINAL makeup of our roster. It could very well be that AFTER Griffin makes all of his moves, that Korver's role and necessity for this team will be more clearly defined.

So, like I said, you CANNOT judge this trade until after the trade deadline is finished.

EDIT: Also, another possibility: getting Korver could have been a defensive move. In that, it was between us and Spurs/Warriors trading for him, so we got him to keep our competition from getting better. Don't assume you have all of the facts to correctly judge this trade.

That's a good point
I like the korver pick up

I just don't think this can be THE move I think korver can be a good step to building an outstanding bench

Hey Korver haters, hope you saw tonight's game.

My gripe hasnt been with Korver but how they're using him. Tonight is a perfect example of what he can bring to this team off the bench. Just needs a facilitator to get him the ball in his spots.

Speaking of which, Lebron with a masterpiece of a game tonight, especially his passing. Just beautiful basketball.

Still plenty more games to get better with Kyle. Looked amazing tonight. He really can open up our entire offense and he can even lift our offense out of dead spots , but we have to let him and put him in position to.

Golden State will game plan and specifically try to take Korver away from us. They are scared of what he could bring to us and you could tell from how they defended him on MLK day.

Attention on Korver means there is an opening elsehere. All we have to do is exploit what the leave open until they have to do something about it and then they're playing into your hands and you can unlock everything else with the right ball movement.

Hey Korver haters, hope you saw tonight's game.

His game and ours are so different and we only saw some plays we can run for him. I knew it would take a while JR is the closest thing to him we had so when JR comes back OMG school girl giddy time when they figure it out.

Like I said, it's cool that Kyle shines against some of the weakest defences in the league like Sacramento and Minnesota. But decent defences shut him down almost completely.

Also Kyle is currently 17th in the league in 3pt %, we have two players on our roster even that shoot better % (albeit JJ doesn't really count). So he might be one of the best shooters of all time, but he doesn't bring his full potential as a shooter so far this season. Even Dunleavey's % in Atlanta are higher than Korver's in either Cavs or Hawks uniform this year.

What I'm saying is so far we didn't get any value from this trade, and maybe even gotten worse. And this trade didn't fill any need this team currently has. Of course I would love every player on the roster to be able to shoot 50% from downtown, but we have more pressing issues on this team.

I can only talk about what I see so far, not on what might or might not happen next.

I could care less how he shoots during the season or even most of the playoffs because none of that will matter. The only thing that will matter is his performance in the finals. I'm waiting for some Derek Fisher-esque clutchness from this guy. Everything before that is simply a process that is intended to have the Cavaliers peak for a two-week period in June. The resting, the slowly bringing along on guys from injury, the coasting, the line up/rotation/play experimentation--all of it is meant to help them peak in June.

Granted we are currently hindered by our lack of depth and injuries from doing some of those things I mentioned, but I'm ignoring anything negative unless I know it will be an issue in june and just soaking in the good things I'm seeing from the team.

Korver takes a hell lot more shots than Dunleavy though. By taking a higher volume of shots, the chances of him not having high shooting % is pretty much expected really.

Anyway, I agree that Kyle hasn't been great till now, yet, but he has showed some good promising signs, which we can't say about Dunleavy when he was here.

Korver hasn't even been here for a month. He is still getting used to the team and vice-versa because LeBron aside we have no one who can take the best out of Korver yet and even then we still are rushing it a lot just to find Korver. Once Korver settles down properly and we have had more practice sessions, only then we will get to see Korver at his best. The best thing about Korver is, even if he isn't shooting well, you HAVE to put a man on him because you can't leave him open. That applies to every single team in the league including Golden State Warriors. They have to put someone on him to ensure he doesn't get wide open because once he does, he will make them comfortably. So, in terms of spacing the floor and just be a threat from the 3-point mark, Korver is always going to get the attention from the opposition coaches and players. They won't cheat on him like they would do on majority of our role-players. So, that way both LeBron and Kyrie will always get the spacing they need to exploit.

Also, I actually like what I have seen of Korver's defense. He was never going to be a defensive savant but his effort on the defensive end along with rotations have been good actually. His defensive stats won't be great because most of his mins have been with the second unit, where he has had to play with Frye and Felder/McRae both of whom are abysmal defensively making the PnR for the opposition and penetration to the paint easy as hell. Then the fact that LeBron has mailed in some games in the defensive end along with RJ not exerting his full energy on the defensive end regularly has made Korver look below par defensively even though most of the times he makes the right defensive play.

I am not worried about Korver at all now. There's still enough time for us to integrate him in our offense and there have been signs which shows he hasn't completely forgotten to play basketball like Mike Miller, Shawn Marion etc.

Remembering one Joe Vardon's report - Korver is one of the few expertise in Floppy play around the league. Cavs now are practicing this play more (than they have this and last 2 seasons).

This is a "learning experience" that takes time. You spent a 1st round on him, and you don't want him to only give you a corner wide open 3 in return, right?

Although that is true...
He takes on average 1.5 shots more than Dunleavy per 36. I would expect one of the best shooters of all time to be able to close the gap, even with shooting 1.5 more. Channing Frye takes 2 more shots per 36, and has a higher %.

Again, what I'm trying to say is that so far we got way way less value than we expected from this trade, if any at all, while not addressing any burning issue.

He just doesn't get enough open looks and the plays that are being run for him are either lazy or predictable.

It's extremely short sighted to think that we could have gotten worse as a team because of this trade. The opportunity cost is a valid argument, but come on. We did not get worse in this trade. Korver is a massive upgrade to Dunleavy. Dunleavy is legitimately horrible. He was/is/will continue to be unplayable against Golden State. The only thing slower than Dunleavy's foot speed is his release.

So he has a higher 3 pt % in Atlanta and that's supposed to mean we are losing this trade? That is so simplistic. Have you been watching how teams guard Korver? He gets more attention off the ball than Kyrie or LeBron do by far and needless to say teams are much more concerned about Korver's lightning release than Dunleavy's turtle ass garbage.

These players aren't even remotely comparable. Korver is one of the best shooters in the league still. Dunleavy can hit some open shots sometimes and might be slower than Channing Frye

Korver postgame after Minny win:
http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/video/...02/1486007702275-170201-Korver-PostGM-1195581

About 00:40 in (with hilarious interjection by someone I'm guessing is RJ), Korver says he's missed a bunch of open looks that LeBron has set him up for. Korver then says that it's a different shot he's getting now, the wide open ones. My guess is this is what happened to Dunleavy as well, but at this stage of their careers Korver > Dunleavy.

The point is, just wait. Minny was a preview of what Korver can and should be able to do more consistently going forward. He just has to make the adjustment of being a catch-and-shoot guy versus a "run-for-10-miles-and-shoot" guy. But Korver is such a good shooter that I'm sure it will come around.

He knows he's missing easy shots he should drill. And I think, in time, he's going to hit those shots and we're going to be even that much better on offense. It just takes time to get the new guy in sync because he's not a natural fit in this offense, given how he's always played.

I do think something similar happened with Dunleavy, but I'm much happier we have Korver than Dunleavy and I think the offensive upside will be greater, in the end, with Korver.
