Setting a screen seems to be a lost art in the NBA. Not sure it's necessarily a Love / Frye issue. We've just never really been a team that sets screens off the ball regularly and perhaps some basic fundamentals are simply being disregarded.

It doesn't help that those guys are used to setting screens for their own offense a la pick-n-pop. Regardless, coaching can cure all. I think its more a matter of chemistry vs. inability to set the right screen for Korver.
That being true, tt is setting great illegalish picks

The way Korver feels like, if I were to make an analogy...

It's like trying to cut weight with just supplements and not enough good dieting and exercise.

I'm not entirely sure any of us envisioned Korver to play 30+ minutes or something like 20 minutes straight in games. Purely to be a good supplement to the machine that our team used to be.

Hopefully we can look back on this time fondly, but obviously we aren't doing Korver many favors with how much he is being used.

7 games played
24.1mpg
7.6ppg
.39% 3pt%
.42 fg%

And he is terrible im sorry but he is providing more than whatever dunleavy was doing and is only 7 games. Korver will get better as the season progresses. Korver will be a better frye and you know frye goes bunkers from three.

Their per 36 stats while playing for the Cavs are nearly identical (Dunleavey's stats with the Hawks are much better though), but Dunleavy played better defense IMO.

So far this trade brought no real value. Hope it changes.

Dunleavy played better defense?

Now I know you are biased, Korver's defense has been a surprise while Dunleavy's was disappointing.

Dunleavy had the entire offseason with the team and still showed nothing. Korver has played 7 games with like one practise and Lue basically not drawing up any plays for him. Plus this is the worst stretch of basketball our team has played in a long time. LeBron has been acting like a bitch on the court. I'm used to him complaining, but he hasn't been this bad since Miami. He's showing flashes of being able to hit JR Smith like shots off screens. I think once he builds chemistry with the team, things are going to be a lot better, but Lue does need to make some changes to that starting lineup.

Biased?
Everybody's biased, that's the very meaning of opinion. Or do you mean I'm somehow related to Dunleavy and want to shit on Korver just because he was traded lol?
I obviously want Korver and the Cavs in general to suceed.

But Korver is busy ball watching a LOT, and can't keep up with fast guards at all.
They both also have almost exactly the same defensive stats as Cavs, even when looking at advanced stats.
So even in this situation, so far their production as Cavs is pretty much exactly the same. (Although Mike's stats on the Hawks since the move are better than Korver's as a Cav)

Generally, so far what I predicted is happening and I hope it's still due to limited practice time and they will find a way to work out the kinks.

I'd like to see Korver used a little more with the starters, because as of now it seems like he's only a positive when he's playing with LeBron against bench units.

At least he's shot the ball well as a Cav (40.4% from deep) but for someone that was the hidden engine behind the Hawks I'd like to see more.

The thing that sucks though is look how much better Shrimp Art is with the starters.

We're going to have the problem that every SG we have is going to look much better with the starters, but we can only put one of them out with the starters at a time. Because even though JR was the 6th man of the year in NY, he too will look better with the starters.

I think this is one of the reasons getting a true 3rd playmaker for the bench unit will actually end up helping everyone because it won't just be LeBron who can create with the bench unit

Kyle has been underwhelming but I still think he will come good. I haven't lost hope.

But I think we need him with the starting unit for that to happen. He looks out of sorts with that pants second unit of ours.

I think a big reason to why Korver is struggling with the 2nd unit is because the the old Boston out of date sets they run for him involve Fyre who moves like a dinosaur setting picks for him to get open, its easy to defend Frye is slow as fuck and sets soft screens, nobody on our team actually knows how to set a proper brick wall screen.

To be honest I'm not sure we even need to run stuff for him at all it, just play your normal game and have him in the JR smith role, a floor spacer you can't leave open

This trade has been a disaster so far:team chemistry looks like crap and we lost trade assets. It's reflected in the hard reality that our win loss record has sucked since the move.

I disagree 100%.

If we didn't suck before the trade, I would be more willing to consider your argument...but the fact of the matter is that we were already headed down this path of suck long before Korver.

The Korver addition freed roster space, upgraded Dunleavey, and made Frye (our best trade asset outside of Shumpert) expendable. This allows us to trade Frye for a more defensive big, and to improve our 3pt shooting at the same time.

Here's the thing: our 2nd unit has been trash all season. Korver was never going to improve that. He's a shooter not a playmaker. Once our team is retooled by the trade deadline, we will all be loving the Korver addition.

Now is NOT the time to critique this trade. It's only the first stroke of paint in Griffin's next masterpiece.

The second unit was actually good with LeBron, Dunleavy and Shump.

I think this is an overreaction.

Since JR's injury: 12-9 overall
Since Love's food poisoning and back injuries: 6-8 overall

We're just beat up right now. There's a breaking point from a depth perspective and we have hit it.

Cavs are in the toughest stretch of the season and are completely missing one of their 4-5 best players and have one of their big 3 battling injury / illness.

Korver is not the problem here. We've been average since JR's injury and below average since Love battled illness / back spasms.
