I gave Ferry an A- before the season began for his signings of Hughes, Marshall, Jones and Henderson and his resigning of Z. In my view, only Henderson has performed up to expectation. Hughes is having trouble adjusting, and his shooting, never a strong suit, has been dreadful from everywhere but beyond the arc. Marshall has been inconsistent offensively and a bit weaker defensively than I anticpated. Jones, if not a cancer, has certainly been a disappointment from a team chemistry perspective. And Z's overall play has been something of a disappointment, though I think he'll finish stronger as the team gets to know each other better. The main reason the team is better this year is the improved play of the holdovers, particularly Lebron and Snow and to a lesser extent Gooden.

So, at this point in the season, I'd lower my grade on Ferry to C+. He spent a lot of money for some players who have yet to live up to expectation. The hope is that they'll play better as they get more time together.

I'd give Ferry a B. I believe he signed players that can work in this environment, and their non performance shouldn't really reach Ferry, moreso on the players themselves and the coaching staff. Injuries thus far have messed with our rotations somewhat, and also some curious rotations. Like you said aaronr, lets hope over time some of these signees will get into the groove and we will not question these decisions.

Is Drew Gooden still wearing a Cavs Jersey ? YES..

Thus, my grade....

F

Z been a disapointment are u freaking stupid, Z been great, marshall is looking good now, henderson been decent, and jones man i dont no what u guys get aganist him wont u wait tell he starts a game before is say shit, jones been shooting the threes pretty good, and i have to say that they give the outsde shot 3 points instead of 2 BECUASE IT IS HARDER DUMB SH*T and everyone knows his def is not good so u cant be saying crap about that cuz u should have new that, but i still would start him over snow...

We have the 2nd best record in the east, the 4th best record in the whole league - what more did you expect from Danny Ferry? The team is starting to gel, but we aren't there yet. What are people upset about - that we have that long 1 game losing streak?

I think some expected to be better on the road this year compared to last year...

It's hard to do that when you start a combination of the 4 that proved to be mental midgets on the road last year and still are this year...

Sure, we can win at home... But the real contenders can do it on the road...

I still give this guy an A- or B+. The Cavs have the second best record in the east behind Detroit and the 4th best record in the NBA behind San Antonio and Dallas in the West. All the teams ahead, San Antonio, Detroit, and Dallas have been together for a while. The Cavs this year feature a new GM, new coach, 2 new starters than last year, 2 new 6th and 7th men, and the 6th man from last year, Andy V, isn't even playing yet. Considering what was available on the market, I would say that Ferry made all the moves he could. Also, its no secret that this team could be playing better considering the talent on the team, but its going to take a while for these guys to learn how to play with each other and get the hang of the new system.

Lets look at the signings

I say he could because Sarunas Jasikevicious was our first choice for PG, we gave him an equivalent offer as Indy, and he simply didn't want to come, that one isn't Ferry's fault. Jones has done what we've expected from him, talk trash and shoot 3's. Is his attitude really hurting any team chemistry? I'm not sure about that one. But I think Jones is working out to be a better deal than Watson, Antonio Daniels, or Marko Jaric.

Z has been Z, pretty much what we expect, and the best free throw shooter on the team. There was no better big man available. I still say Z should take our techs.

Larry has been better on the defensive side of the ball and seems to have struggled finishing this year, but hes been one of those guys who can single-handedly keep the team in a game and it turns out he can hit an open trey. JJ, Allen, and Redd all would have commanded even more money than Larry (though i do realize Larry is getting a near-max contract).

Henderson has been the best bang for our buck, but no ones too excited about this one. Its one of those quiet moves a good GM would make.

Marshall is a little on the soft side, but we knew that coming in, he more than makes up for it with his experience and gives us a different dimension than what we got with Gooden, so I think they compliment each other well. Also Marshall is another one of those guys that will win you games, as we've seen.

With these signings (henderson doesn't count really) we pretty much used up every available dollar of cap room to what I think is the best combo I could think of. Maybe you could switch Sarunas with Jones and things would be better, but that one wasn't a Ferry call. If you sign JJ, Allen, or Redd, you probably can't have Marshall, Z, and Jones.

The other option Ferry had was to wait until next year. Now, this would probably be inexcusable and the uproar caused by letting 27 million in cap room just sit there for a year would probably get the LA and NY writers in a Lebron leaves Cleveland frenzy. What the Cavs needed most was a shooting guard, and really, there aren't going to be 4 top quality shooting guards available as free agents any time soon, especially not next year.

So what does the team need? We still need a real backup center, I don't think Anderson Varejao is going to be the answer. We also need some quickness, a guy to harass the Tony Parkers of the world. But the Cavs will have at least the MLE and a 1st round pick this year to try to address some of that.

you realize that the Spurs just barely had a winning road record last year, right?

they just had to win 1 of the road games they lost to be .500 on the road. That's respectable, especially for a team that is still learning to play together.

Cavs and Spurs should never be in the same sentence until they play one another...

Spurs coast cause they can, they know they will be there in late May battinling in those conference finals....Cavs need to prove they are a real team... You do that by going on the road and winning around 25 games...

Give the same consistent effort on the road that you give at home... Even if it doesn't show up in the "W"... The Cavs play terrible on the road, they don't even look like the same team... They will either start out hot, or try to pick it up late in the game when it's too late...

Consistency needs to be shown.... We are not there yet....

4 teams won 25+ road games last year. None of those 4 made the NBA finals, only 1 of the 4 even made the conference finals.

Our defense played fine last night, we just had trouble making shots. that'll happen from time to time, especially on the 2nd night of back to backs.

I've taken my homer goggles off...

Believe what you want.... But this team isn't going anywhere until a couple things change...

They have to prove they are legit... Losing these games on the road to teams they should beat is not going to get it done....25 road wins would get it done...

It's not just defense like you mention.... It's effort, energy, and lack of execution, to go along with poor defense...

Really can't say LeBron played inspired defense last night when he was guarding someone of quality...

who are we losing to on the road that we should beat on the road? You talk like we're losing to scrubs. Here are the teams we've lost to on the road

Spurs/Memphis/Pacers/Seattle/Clippers/Nets

Of those, the only game I would say we should expect to have an automatic win is the Seattle game.

Our road wins are Orlando/Philly/Sacramento/Chicago

Have you noticed just how good the nets are playing lately? After a slow start, they are playing like the team people expected going in. In the last 7 games, they have beaten us, Miami, Denver, Golden State, the Clippers (plus orlando and new york). Of the 7 teams, we had the smallest margin of defeat. We had more rebounds, assists and shot a better percentage. Where we lost the game were fatigue issues - poor 3 point shooting from tired legs and not drawing as many fouls.

Can anyone say in those road losses that they haven't had to cover their eyes for long stretches. The losses on the road are not a massive issue, the way we play is. I suppose you missed watching Jekyl and Hyde. That guy was quite the liberal compared to the road Cavaliers.
