Ferry's Grade at this time

who are we losing to on the road that we should beat on the road? You talk like we're losing to scrubs. Here are the teams we've lost to on the road

Spurs/Memphis/Pacers/Seattle/Clippers/Nets

Of those, the only game I would say we should expect to have an automatic win is the Seattle game.

Our road wins are Orlando/Philly/Sacramento/Chicago

Have you noticed just how good the nets are playing lately? After a slow start, they are playing like the team people expected going in. In the last 7 games, they have beaten us, Miami, Denver, Golden State, the Clippers (plus orlando and new york). Of the 7 teams, we had the smallest margin of defeat. We had more rebounds, assists and shot a better percentage. Where we lost the game were fatigue issues - poor 3 point shooting from tired legs and not drawing as many fouls.
Bucks, Sonics, and Nets should have been road wins...

I believe that would make us a little more respectable at around 8-4 on the road..

Also, we should not look at the scoreboard in most of these games and see the Cavs down between 10-15 in most of these damn road games (even the games they won like the Sixers, Bulls ect...)....

We lost that game by 5 last night, but we all know it wasn't that close...

The Heat last year were 35-6 at home vs 24-17 on the road
The Pistons last year were 32-9 at home vs 22-19 on the road
The Spurs last year were 38-3 at home vs 21-20 on the road

I fully expect us to be above .500 on the road by the time the season is over. I'm not going to get bent out of shape because we lost one game to seattle a month into the season.

I'm looking forward to the resurgent Cavaliers taking all in their path on their January West trip. Thats hotel bath towels and robes, not wins.

you underestimate the bucks and nets. Should is too strong a word. We still get both of those teams on the road again - we'll win at least one of those two games.

The Cavaliers have the 2nd best record in thr East, yet 7th best road record. The Cavaliers have issues with Kenny Rogers. They can wait to get on the road again.

Fine, let me worry about it, you keep debating it... It's the game within the game that I look forward too..

I want 25 road wins... But hell, I would take 22 to 24 wins on the road in a heart beat...However, I don't see this team coming close to that though...

Of course we still have road games against the Bobcats, Raptors and Hawks (oh wait, they beat us at home :( so who knows about that one)

We might be able to sqeak one out against the Jazz on the road...

How about a quality road win done in a convincing fashion ? Is that too much to ask for ?

and who have those teams ahead of us played? The Nets have the 2nd best road record in the east, at 8-6. They have road wins vs the raptors, bobcats and knicks. Do you think if we added those 3 games to our schedule and took the spurs off, we might just have a winning record

That's just it, I don't care about those teams and what they do, i'll let their fans worry about their teams....

The Cavs should be performing better on the road so far and they haven't thus far.. I don't care about the Nets, Spurs, Pistons, Heat, Knicks or whoever in the hell you keep bringing up..

The fact of the matter is, we are 5-7 on the road-->UNACCEPTABLE..

Not only that, but we haven't shown the ability to beat a team on the road of any significance (or even stay competitive for a full 48 minutes even in the games that we did comeback to win)

This team won 13 games on the road last year, and I believe someone mentioned they are on pace for 16 wins this year .... Sorry, but that doesn't give me a ton of hope that this team is actaully serious when it comes to being a contender and fully represnting that "2nd" best record in the east..

we'll start racking up road wins when we get Atlanta, Toronto, New York, etc. I expect at least 21 road wins. I expect us to beat Milwauke and/or New Jersey the next time we play them on the road. And I consider our win against Philly a significant win. I'm also expecting 4-2 on our 6 game road trip next month.

The team is growing - it's a process - our next 27 games will be better than our last 27, and the final 28 will be better than that.

See, I don't consider that Philly win a significant win.. Mainly from the viewpoint that it didn't help us in the Pacers game that followed or other road games like the Sonics, Bucks, Nets.. They didn't "GROW" as a team from that game (I don't see the "growing" you type about).... Wins like that carry a certain amount of momentum with the next game of it's kind...

That win didn't say the Cavs "arrived".. Plus, they were down by 16 or 17 in that game, and it was another "here ya go again" type game that they had to come back from (like almost every road game they play).. They didn't take it the SIXERS in that game...

Now, if we had went into INDY following that win in Philly and was at least competitive in that game (you could then start to see something building potentially,) but after loses to the Soncs,Bucks, Nets, and coming back from 9 down in the 4th to the Bulls on the road, one could say the Cavs are still on square #1 as far as building blocks for success on the road...

Getting a road win in Miami (like the team with the 2nd best road record in the east did the other night) or Detroit, Indy, Dallas could maybe speed up th process... But as of now, road wise, this team fails...

you don't see the growing? You don't see us as a better team this last 7 games than we were even during our 8 game winning streak? Or defense is vastly better. Even last night our defense had a relatively strong game. We held the nets to 43.4% shooting, 36.4% from 3 and 96 total points. All 4 numbers are below our season average.

Our 3 point FG % defense is still worst in the league because we started so awful. However, our average of the last 5 games of .324 would be 4th best in the league. And our points allowed of 92.2 over that span would be 8th best.

Again, the reason we lost can be traced directly to uncharacteristically poor shooting from the 3 on our part and not drawing more fouls. Both of which can be attributed to fatigue on a road game that's the 2nd night of a back to back.

Sure, I see the defense getting better (last night was a step back)

But, you keep venturing off track... I am talkin' about road wins and the impact that it has interms of their GROWTH on the road...Of the 6 wins we had on the streak, 5 were at home., the road win was against a potential "non" playoff team... As soon as they played a playoff team with talent, they dropped the ball..AGAIN.

beat all of the non-playoff teams on the road an you get about 20 road wins. We'll drop a couple of games to non-playoff teams by having an off night, such as the sonics loss. We'll win a couple against playoff teams, such as the philly win. You just completely overstate what we need to do on the road. The goal is simply to be above .500 on the road when all is said and done.

We haven't made the playoffs in years and you expect us to out of the box be the most dominant team in the league. We're doing fine and we're getting better. The 3 teams in the league with a better record than ours have had stability for years. I know dallas changed coaches last year, but even that was well planed in advance. It is completely unrealistic to expect us to be on their level this soon with the number of changes we've had.

LJ4MVP... Are you on the Cavs payroll ? :chuckles:

It's one thing to be a homer... But not to see a fault in your team is crazy... If I expect us to be dominant, You make out like we are one of the "elites" and have a chance to win it all with no worries... No matter if it's LeBron's defense or the Cavaliers road problems... You continually try to put out all negative flames...Some of us don't think of everything as being so peachy...

No, I don't expect us to be dominant, but c'mon buddy, I would like to see us at least be competitive in those games.... I again ask, is that too much ? or is it too much to ask that your team not be down between 10-20 points in every road game... (especially the games agaisnt teams you can see in April or May ?)

Imo, that is "realistic"

Our needs this offseason (at least according to me) on the left, and Ferry's moves on the right, followed by my analysis:

1) Get a C (resigned Z) - B+, it was the right move to make then and remains so. Z has his faults and games where his deficiencies hurt us but the C position is solid for the next 4 years or whenever Z breaks down for good.

2) Find shooters (added Damon Jones and Marshall) - B-. Ferry added more then adequete shooting but the players he got have significant deficiencies at other part of the games. Marshall is inconsistent and at times looks old (4 years seems like a long contract for him) and amon Jones is well amon.

3) Improve the PG position - (signed D. Jones) D. Snow and Jones are situational backup PG's. Neither are close to being quality starters on playoff teams.

4) Improves the Sg position - (signed Hughes) B- : I thought this was a great move but Hughes, while I'm still a big fan, has been a dissappointment. His PER is SIGNIFICANTLY lower then last year and he's being outplayed by a lot of SG's out there. On the bright side it is hard to get used to play with a guy like James when you are used to playing with the ball in his hands and I think Brown has not used Hughes like I would have preferred (play more PG)

5) Draft (Marty Viscious) incomplete. If he never makes it not a big deal if he becomes even an adequate backup then Ferry gets a big plus.

6) Coach (Mike Brown) No grade - Ferry was signed after Brown. If I would give him a grade it would be a B as his emphasis on D has been on the right spot and the D has been improving while our scoring remains on the high side. On the other hand, I wouldn't exactly call him a creative coach who does moves that make me go wow that was a smart move and our half court offense is still a work in progress.

Overall (averaging out my grades) : I'd say about B-. If Hughes starts getting better as I expect him to do then should get much closer to a B+. There is big cap at the A spot becuase we will never a championship contender with either Snow or Jones starting for us. A B grade being above average but not exceptional seems to fit where the team is at right now. Basically this team is playing better then last years team and is getting better to the point where we should be a solid playoff team but not a championship calibre team yet.
