Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

That is by no means the only report that Bynum would like to play in cleveland. If he instead gets traded to a different team he would like to play with, we really have no chance to sign him as a free agent because of the over $20 million it would cost him in guaranteed money to take a shorter deal. Trading for him is the only way to have us be the team that has that key advantage. Remember the rules have changed since the LeBron sign and trade. Players can no longer get that 5th year in a sign and trade. THey only get it by staying with the team that has the bird rights.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Asik is a center that just got a 3 year, $25 million contract to play center. That's starter salary, and about equal to what they freed up releasing Scola. Why did they release a productive starting PF and sign a center to a starters salary if the plan is to gut the team for another center?

Because, next to Charlotte they are the biggest mess of an organization in the NBA?

Good teams are deep in defensive big men. Houston is trying to be a good team. If they weren't interested in getting into this deal, wouldn't we have heard that by now? Instead, I'm reading connected journalist after connected journalist saying that they very much want either Howard or, perhaps, Bynum.

If you are making me pick between your assumptions and hundreds of credible sources, I'm taking the sources.

The answer is--and always was--because they have no idea what the fuck they are doing.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

The Rockets signed him to a 3-year, $25 million offer sheet....the Bulls have 3 days to match, I think the deadline for them to match is sometime this weekend. But, I don't know when the Bulls received the offer sheet.

They received it today, so they still have 3 days, and they'll likely use all 3 before they officially choose not to match.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

what assumptions? Asik is a center, Howard is a center. Houston wants Howard. They are in a better position to go after Howard if Asik is matched by the Bulls. Otherwise it really doesn't make a ton of sense to have half of their cap space tied up at center, one of which will only play 10 minutes/night behind Howard when they just dumped a guy who easily could have started beside Howard.

I would have to disagree. If Houstons gambit for howard or bynum doesnt work out. They still have 3 top 15 picks. a promising point guard and a solid foundation to grow on.

looking at the big picture for houston it was one of the most effective roster blowups and overhauls in one offseason that I have seen in quite awhile. add in last seasons morris and motie along with all the cap space and Houston has a foundation in place and 3 years to find a star to go with those pieces.

Plus neither can score away from the hoop. They can't really log minutes together at all. Asik will nearly be making $15 million in year 3.

Feel free to find us an article that says the Houston Rockets are no longer in trade talks with Orlando now that they have made a contract offer to Asik. I haven't read anything like that yet.

You just explained why it would be completely asinine for Houston to trade away everything they have gotten for a years rental of Dwight or maybe Bynum. They do NOT have a Kyrie Irving to pair with Bynum like we do. Bynum will put them in mediocracy and they will have traded away all of their young pieces to land him.

I think Houston made impressive moves so far but they're silly if they really want to ruin it all for Dwight.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Yeah,

If I'm Houston, I'm tempted to just ride it out with Lamb, T Jones, Royce, D Mo, and Parsons. Suck for 2 years, get two of their own lottery picks + the Toronto pick and Dallas pick.

Here's an LA times article about the trade. Very similar to ones we have already seen.

Andrew Bynum-Dwight Howard deal isn't happening .... yet - latimes.com

By Ben Bolch

July 19, 2012, 9:11 p.m.
Dwight Howard isn't the only All-Star center dealing with commitment issues these days.

Andrew Bynum might soon face a decision on his future as well.

Bynum's agent, David Lee, said Thursday that his client has not told him whether he would sign a contract extension with another team besides the Lakers, a move that is widely considered a precursor to any trade involving Howard.

"We've never had that conversation," Lee said. "If we had a conversation every time there was talk about a trade, we'd be talking about other teams more than we would the Lakers."

There were conflicting reports about whether Howard would be open to signing a long-term extension with the Lakers should Orlando trade the disgruntled center.

While RealGM.com reported that Howard would be amenable to staying with the Lakers for years to come, ESPN quoted Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, as saying that his client intended to explore free agency in the summer of 2013 no matter which team traded for him.

A trade involving Howard could also hinge in part on Bynum's desires.

A Yahoo Sports report stated that the Cleveland Cavaliers would be willing to participate in a three-team trade involving Howard only if they had assurances that Bynum would commit to them long-term. The Cavaliers would be granted permission to contact Bynum's representatives, according to the report, only after the three teams involved in the trade had agreed to the framework for the deal.

Lee said no teams — including the Lakers — had called to discuss any potential trades involving Bynum or preferred destinations for his client, who will become a free agent after next season.

"I think at a point in time someone would like to know where he stands," Lee said, "but that's just my feelings."

Reports that surfaced last week alleging which teams Bynum would be willing to play for long-term bewildered Lee because the agent was on a fishing trip in Alaska with Bynum at the time.

"Neither of us were accessible," Lee said. "Where that list came from, I have no clue."

Discussions between the Lakers and Lee about a contract extension have not commenced, the agent said. Bynum has one more year left on his contract for $16.1 million.

"I would anticipate" the contract discussions would start soon, Lee said, "but I leave that up to [Lakers executives] Jimmy [Buss] and Mitch [Kupchak]. I'll let that take its natural course."

Bynum returned to the continental United States earlier this week after catching some halibut and salmon on his trip.

It might not be long before he learns which team is most eager to reel him in.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Let me ask a question:
say AB comes to Cleveland for 2012-13 season, is healthy all year, and puts up numbers at his career averages. Is he then a 'no-brainer" for a Max Deal Bird-Right Contract ? Is that a universal "yes"---or, are there dissenters ?

On a team where Bynum competed with Gasol and a great rebounding SG in Kobe, AB still averaged 12 rebounds a game. With Andy gone and having TT as our only other big rebounder along with perhaps TZ, I expect his rebounds to be no worse than 12 a game. It's the same thing with points. Other than Kyrie, Bynum would be getting a ton of touches--more than he would in LA for sure. He may average numbers very close to Howard--in the neighborhood of 22 and 14 or so. Man does that make me want Bynum really bad now. :chuckles:

Lets see if they are still offering to gut their team after the Bulls fail to match Asik.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

After doing a quick browse over on the Rockets forum, I'm pretty scared. Their fans definitely believe that Houston has the best package and I'm starting to think they're right. I must say though, their fans are not all that bad; they have civil and thought provoking conversations like we do. Fuck them though.
