Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

man what a great article. instead of just regurgitating how bynum can make more money by becoming FA than signing an extension for the near future he does an actual holistic analysis of the situation. Great stuff. Good stuff for Cavs fans too, i would imagine.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Am I reading this correct? It may actually be beneficial for Bynum to sign an extension after he would be traded and before free agency?

If the Lakers signed him to an extension before they traded him, could he be sent to the Cavs if they are over the cap? Lakers would need to wait 6 months before 7.5% trade kicker applied? That wouldn't make much sense.
If Bynum agree to 2 extra years instead of 3, and he agrees to 4.5% raises instead of 7.5%, the Lakers can trade him at any point after he signs the extension. If he takes the better extension (3 years and 7.5% raises) the Lakers can't trade him for 6 months. Same also applies if he were traded, the Cavs wouldn't be able to offer him the better extension for 6 months.

This gives Bynum power, because he can sign an extension closer to the season and be tied to the Lakers. This also means for the Cavs to protect themselves, they would want to get Bynum before the 6 months go past the trade deadline. No matter what assurances Bynum gives, I would think the Cavs would want an out if they need one at the trade deadline.

I think that out would be the Cavs having his bird rights, and the opportunity to offer him that most lucrative extension over anyone else. Houston or the Lakers could do the same thing, though.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

Bynum does have injury issues of course. It might be smart to do this extension thing, but if his knees go boom in 2 years, he gets way more money if he signs the new contract.

Lakers still holding out hope

RT @iknowk9: why has Ebanks not signed yet? --> He was told if he waited there might be more years and money available in a S&T to Orlando

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor

According to CBS, Lakers forward Matt Barnes arrested on traffic violation and resisting an officer in Manhattan Beach. Report is that he was arrested on a misdemeanor traffic violation for driving with a suspended license and also on a felony charge for resisting arrest.

Not good timing for an unrestricted free agent and also one who could play some part in an ORL/LAL deal.

Can anyone explain why they made it in the interest of the player to become a free agent rather than sign the extension? It does seem like a flaw in the CBA. Doesn't it mean that more and more teams will be on edge when their superstars need re-signed, not knowing if they are going to bolt or just sign a new contract?

Scenarios
Scenario 1: Bynum signs an extend and trade only recieves 4.5% increase and is available for free agency when hits the ten year max.
Scenario 2: Bynum signs extension with lakers for 7.5% . Bynum eligigble for 10 year max free agency can be traded by regular season trade deadline.
Scenario 3: Bynum does not sign an extension is traded and has option to extend with bird rights with new team or go into free agency.

Scenario one is just not going to happen. period.
Scenario 2 would mean howard would have to be available to trade in march.
Scenario 3 is most likely scenario if orlando pulls the trigger before the season starts. Whether its the cavs getting bynum or the rockets. who knows.

In regard to why Free agency has appeal to players. basic economics. if other teams are willing to pay for ones services it drives up ones value. but the short answer. Oscar Robinson.

From @SamAmicoFSO

When I asked an opposing GM about the Cavs just now, he said, "That roster is screaming for a trade."

Does that mean the roster is so bad it needs a trade or that we have the pieces for a trade?

Yes Oscar Robinson must have been very upset that there was a guy named Oscar Robertson that was so good.

And here you have it folks...Bynum tells us he's cool with Cleveland, as long as we got bitches and weed.

Well this might be the tweet ever. I like the guy who does Probballdraft, but this is pointless.

"Probasketballdraft

Impression I get from Magic source is that Howard not likely going to be dealt right now. Media is putting a timer on this. Orlando GM Rob Hennigan will not settle in any Howard trade. Waiting could buy the Clippers time to considering pursuing Dwight. Magic are said to be very high on potential packages from LA."

He doesn't say the Clippers actually have any interest. He doesn't even say they've slightly considered dealing with the Magic. All he says is that at some point, the Clippers could possibly get involved and that the Magic like what they could possibly offer. Well, guy, at some point the Miami Heat could get involved and the Magic could really like what they could offer. I mean you can say that about almost all the teams in the league (save for a few really putrid teams that have no stars at all). They COULD get involved and if they involved their star players, the Magic could like what they have to offer.

if your gonna mock my mispelling . it should at least be in context of the post. The context was that he was stuck with a very bad team and could not get out . then sued and won for the right to free agency. If free agency was not profitable for the players then they would get themselves thrown back in court and yield the same result.

perhaps if you focused more on basketball history than spellings you would of understood.

Whoa sorry if I upset you. I didn't intend to offend you at all and thought your post was actually very good.

As for the basketball history, I am quite familiar with the lawsuit Robertson brought against the NBA which even delayed the NBA-ABA merger, so no reason for you to take that sort of tone. Anyway, I didn't mean to insult you. No hard feelings.
