Game 11 | #3 Ohio State vs. #9 Michigan State | November 21st, 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They haven't looked good all year. I talked myself into believing they were just going through the motions until they played a legit team, but it appears they simply aren't very good.

Hard to imagine they could bring so much talent back and get so little out of it. They marched up and down the field all game in East Lansing last year. What the hell changed?

Coaching? Divided by the QB controversy? Or is this just the natural post championship come down where you can't get back to the same level of determination and intensity?

I'll agree the team has underachieved, even when they were 10-0. But the team is still 10-1, and with a win will be in a NY6 bowl with a good shot at a top 10 and maybe even a top 5 ranking. That is a great season.

It's great to have high expectations, but they can't be so unreasonable that objectively great season are meaningless.

If Herman was still calling plays this could have been a historically great team. One fucking guy, and he doesn't even play, was the difference between that and looking at playing some SEC team in the Who Gives A Fuck Bowl if they lose to UM Saturday. That's what makes this so frustrating.

I think Urban had a guy in Herman that just saw the game like him, able to break down plays and innovative to expand the playbook. He doesn't have a guy on staff that can do that now. They went back to an Aaron Hernandez play today with vannett and that inside pitch. Completely out thinking themselves.

Still can win the Big Ten East with a win and a Michigan State loss next week.

Probably not going to happen, but, still possible.

Talent isn't everything though. Look at FSU last year. They had an insane number of guys go in this past year's draft. Will be the same for OSU with the upcoming draft. Sometimes unmeasurable intangibles are more important than pure talent. Last year's team had them. This year's did not.

It's hard to just measure pure talent in college football, too. It's not like the pros at all, where these guys are more focused and dialed in.

It's hard to win every year in college for a reason. These are kids, they're not seasoned and experienced football players. They're prone to a lot more mistakes, mental errors, taking teams for granted, etc...

And let's be honest, Cardale and JT flew under the radar last year. This year, not the case. Both guys clearly show promise, but are still quite raw at the position.

Cardale sucks. Barrett is a product of the system. OSU never puts out NFL level QB's.

When's the last time they had a good Defensive End either?

Yes, he lied. It's obvious he doesn't call most of the plays. All reports are that he doesn't call most of the plays. So yes, he lied to cover for the two goofs sharing the duties.
Great insight. Meyer manned-up and took the blame on himself, after all, hiring and retaining Tim Beck and Ed Warinne was a Meyer decision, and Meyer is a "the buck stops here" kinda guy. In the final analysis it was his mistake trusting those guys.

Kudos to 'Zeke for manning-up and criticizing the abysmal play-calling. It has been bad all year but this was the nadir: the naked emperor exposed.

As fans we can only hope that Meyer has the humility to make the needed staff changes after the end of this season.

I was with you last night when I was pissed....not so much anymore

I don't think you call out your coaching staff and you certainly don't tell everyone that you're going pro right after the game like that. He was upset and caught up in the emotion, but I wouldn't be surprised if Urban sat him next week. The have a chance to back up a Natl championship year with 1 loss and a very good bowl game (maybe playoffs if things get crazy). All hope is not lost, some people need to relax, Zeke included

I will agree he was emotional, and perhaps his outburst was unprofessional. But at least it was honest, and I have more respect for honesty than anything else.

Meyer hired Beck at the recommendation of Warriner. That was his mistake. Meyer doesn't call the plays.

I don't know if it is a byproduct of his "de-stressing" his coaching life or not, but Meyer has become more of a delegater (is that a word?) on both sides of the ball. Herman last year was awesome, so it didn't matter. Beck was underqualified and struggled all year matching the offense to the talent. His playcalling with Cardale in there was baffling at times.

The Cardale experiment also lasted too long. It should have been known that JTB was the better option for this offense, and he should have been under center the minute he was healthy.

I guess "We Are Penn St" this week. However, I really fear the team will be mentally checked-out and will lose to UM anyway.
