Didn't get to watch this game. Just drove 11 hours, but read this thread to catch up on what I missed.
First of all, just from looking at the box score, the bench was disappointing tonight. Most of you confirmed that in the thread. What I might remind you is Tristan was removed from the bench and started because of the absence of Andy, plus we don't have Delly right now. Delly will immediately take all of Will Cherry's minutes, and Amundson will be reserved for spot duty only.
Again looking at the box score, I was impressed with Love's outing, but immediately thought Andy being out precipitated it. LeBron loves using Andy in PnR's and Love is used to space the floor. With Tristan in there, LeBron has to use Love in the PnR because he has absolutely no trust in Tristan to make a play off it yet. With no Andy, Love was involved a lot more and shot well tonight. I liked your guy's suggestions about moving Andy to the bench. It makes sense, but I'm not sure how the rotation would work. Ideally you would have Andy come in and have Love sit down to maximize each player. An Andy and Tristan front line is a definite no from a spacing standpoint. Maybe you could bring Andy in for Tristan to play center and bring Mike Miller off the bench for Kevin Love. Bring Dion in for Marion and you have a second unit of Kyrie, Dion, Mike Miller, LeBron at the 4, and Andy. Delly/Will Cherry could come in for Kyrie a little later, Marion could replace LeBron, and K Love can come back in for Andy. JUst throwing out ideas, feel free to tinker with it.
The final thing I want to comment on is Dion. I've been watching him closely. He really has a strange game. Loves the shot one step in from the arc, sucks around the rim, struggles at the free throw line and has about as erratic a jump shot as you could possibly have and still be good at it. His on-ball defense is suspect, especially on pick and rolls. Screens kill him. Yet, despite all that, I remain intrigued. He has that J.R. Smith, lightning-in-a-bottle type game. He has the ability to score 20 any night, but for him to do that, he has to play within the system. Too many times I feel as though he takes the shots he does because he wants to get some up before Blatt pulls him. Blatt has not settled on a consistent minute range for Waiters, so Dion has no idea how long he'll be in for. As a result, he jacks up shots he shouldn't take because he feels he needs to be aggressive in a limited amount of time. In short, I feel confident Dion will do fine in this offense once David Blatt decides on a consistent rotation and a consistent minutes usage for Dion.
