Game Thread | Game #20 | Cavs @ Pistons | Nov. 27, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Truly has been. I’m sure we’re all reading too much into body language, or I hope we are, but I assume we’d have growing pains just based on style, not ego.

It’s entirely possible that’s all imagined, but it does appear Darius thinks he should have ball during crunch, when it seems obvious Mitchell should. He’s simply in his prime and a much better player at this point. Darius as anything but selfless never entered my mind going into season, so I’ll chalk it up as imagined. He’s certainly the one having growing pains though with the pairing. Mitchell is flourishing here. I’m sure they’ll figure it out. Both seem like good kids and we have won.
Seems pretty simple, though: Garland is a budding star, with great potential; Mitchell is a next-level scorer and superstar. Garland needs to focus on getting the Spyda the ball where he needs it. He needs to say, “How can I help you, Mr. Spyda?”

That's as ugly as it gets, but I'll take it. The Cavs clamped down in the second half defensively, holding the Pistons to 36 points after they got 56 in the first half.

The Cavs were 3-for-21 on 3's after three quarters but hit five 3's in the 4th. They pulled out of their funk just in time, going 5-for-7 from deep. That was the difference, along with the defense.

Mitchell came through in crunch time with 14 points in the 4th. Garland was 4-for-19 and normally we have no chance when he has a game like that, but luckily Detroit was missing four starters or this would have been a loss. The Cavs have been lucky with opponents' injuries recently.

The Pistons, who lead the league in made free throws per game, missed 12. The Cavs caught a break. The Cavs were 28-for-33 from the stripe.

With Allen and Love out Mobley played 40 minutes with 20 points and 13 boards. He definitely deserved some JYD consideration, along with Mitchell. Okoro played some great defense down the stretch, forcing some missed shots and grabbing rebounds. He was a team high +14. He hit a huge 3-pointer early in the 4th to get the Cavs going. Next thing Wade hits one and then Mobley.

I hope Allen can go tomorrow. And that Siakam is out.
Whoa. Why would a team as bad as the Pistons lead the league in made free throws per game?

They did? Why?

Eventhough it was pre-shot clock, it was faster paced. In the mid 60's they averaged 104 shots a game, last year they averaged 88 shots a game league wide. About a 15% decrease. Throw in they shot almost 5% worse, and thats about 20-25 more rebounds a game.

Best rebound stat imo is percentage of available rebounds. The all time leader is active and will shock you. The 2nd place person is retired and wont shock you.

The official stats begin in 1971, so Wilt really isnt on this

There became a point during the LeBron era where this kind of basketball was not fun to watch anymore and did not get them past the ECF. Mitchell is the better scorer right now, but this unit needs to evolve as a team. If DG is open, shoot it. If Mitchell is open, pass it to him so he can shoot it. If Mobley or JA have their man pinned, toss it to them so they can. It's easy to shut down a team if one guy creates everything and the offense is catered towards it.

Ha! I got them BOTH! Yay, me!

The shot-clock started in April of 1954! Pre-Wilt!

That was.... a win.
Thankful for it, and considering they have a back-to-back with the Dinosaurs tomorrow I won't dwell on it too much.

The Cavs still seem to lack legit offensive sets to go to when things get tough; heroism on someone's part feels like it is required to win.
At least we got to see more Diakite, who I believe should see more minutes ala Lamar Stevens in the "PF" rotation.
They did the right thing and gave Lopez the boot at the first opportunity of subbing.
The team's defense and scoring ability without Allen takes a dive.
This Pistons team had hardly anyone of their ideal lineup. No Cade, no Ivey, no Stewart, still no Bogdanovich, etc. Jalen Duren was there, though.

Ideally I would like to someone that can play 4/5 (in small ball setups) who is a little more bulky yet mobile to come in when Allen is absent or sits. Don't know who that is in the NBA, much less if that person is available.

We started this game off horribly, just DG & DM going one on one, no passing, nobody able to sink a shot. We didn't start to run offense until the subs came in and I think that's why JBB started subbing early.

I thought DG looked like he was playing with a bad hangover. He had trouble getting it going all night. DM started out rough too but he got to the line a lot. Evan played damn good ball, nice to see him drop some threes.

I liked seeing Neto and Diakite out there for meaningful minutes, and it was really awesome to see Diakite, Mobley, and Wade all on the floor together. I think they could be a decent grouping for the front line rotations.

Please stop with all the manufactured soap opera drama between DG and DM, it only exists in the minds of some fans who want to read crap into body language that isn't there.

Play Diakite and Neto with no injuries you bum coach.

I'll take the win. But 40 and 39 minutes again for Garland and Mitchell(and 40 for Mobley) heading into Toronto tonight? hmm...

Happy to see Mobley knocking down the 3's...they looked good. But i'm not worried about him like some of you, so i'm focusing on the overall team performance on the court which is lacking.

I think he knows that Toronto is a scheduled loss so he threw everything he could at Pistons.
