Game Thread | Game #67 | Celtics @ Cavs | March 6, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Je ne sais pas, mais peut-être une vieille photo. Oh….and pourquoi is one word
C’est une photo, pas une vidéo. Et je vois Kevin Love donc c’est claire qu’elle soit vieille.

JBB did insert Okoro to run along side Pritchard with 4 seconds in a tie game. Kinda like an escort
I didn't realize that. I was stunned they let Pritchard dribble the length of the court and get a layup attempt at the buzzer. And because Okoro let him to do it Mobley had to jump in and contest the shot, leaving Grant Williams in perfect position for the follow-up. Fortunately LeVert fouled him or the game was over.

That was so choice. That choke begs for a lengthy narrated breakdown.

The thing is it doesn't always work that way.

I LOVE what Lamar brought to the mix tonight. But just like Wade, just like Okoro, just like Cedi.....all those dudes will have a nice game or nice small stretch of games and but then cool down and have massive holes in their 2 way games.

I mean if they wanna go with Lamar as one of the top8, go for it, but as much as we're down on JBB and I'm coming around to that as well, this roster has some serious flaws that simply will not be overcome this year and wouldn't have been overcome regardless of who the coach was.

So this team is going to do what it does for the next 18 games and playoffs and then Koby has some SERIOUS work and hard decision s to make this summer at every level of the team.

I don't disagree with most of this, but Mobley and Stevens on the front line as a small ball lineup had been really good. Don't make Stevens play the 2 or 3

Scheduled loss and all, grateful for that win.
Decent Garland game.
Carried by Donovan.
Evan Mobley masterclass, again.
LOL Grant Williams LOL. Their Draymond.

Think JBB was struggling with lineups because of how putrid bench production was. A well earned back-to-back JYD award for Lamar Stevens.
As said above, perhaps it makes more sense to run Lamar as PF relief when teams go small. Wade probably should be played at backup SF
JA was straight up taken out of the game against their small ball lineup. I'm sure that will engender some of the kind of conversations.... that were addressed on the latest Fear The Fro Pod. And let it be known, I agree with Bob Schmidt as to what should be done with those who believe JA should be tossed for some wing that won't be let go for that price.

I know it's enticing because Donovan is just a DAWG out there off the dribble, but this team really needs to chill with the ISO shit.. Especially against defenses llike Boston, that still cause problems for the Cavs missing the key players they do.

Loved seeing Donovan get that rebound at the end of the game and being like "FUCK YOU", dropping that on the court as the clock struck 0.

Would like to see some Danny Green in some of these bench wing spots, especially as Ricky and Caris struggle like shit to score.

4 more wins to beat last year's record. 2 wins so far in this stretch, Cavs need to get at least one against Miami. Then start really kicking ass.

Lucky win, but I'll take it. They all count.

Can't believe Grant Williams, an 83% free throw shooter, missed both shots. It's a gift to the Cavs, who deserved to lose after giving up 68 points in the first half, including the inexcusable sin of letting a guy leak out for a dunk off a made free throw with 2 seconds left in the first quarter. If Williams makes just one of those free throws the Cavs lose on that play.

Kudos to Bickerstaff who inserted Lamar Stevens to start the 4th after giving up on Cedi and Okoro. It changed everything as Stevens was a +18 in 17 minutes and had six offensive boards. He was the difference.

Jarrett Allen checked out for the second straight game against the Celtics, following up his 5-point performance last week with 4 points tonight.

Garland had a bad shooting night at 6-for-18, missing many shots he normally makes, but he had 12 assists and was a +17. He made two huge free throws and a 3-pointer late.

Mitchell missed 20 shots, which is probably a season high, but still got 40 points on 34 shots. Mobley had one of his best games of the season with 25 points, 17 rebounds, 3 blocks, and a lot of stops and contested shots.

LeVert had another solid game off the bench with a +9 on 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. He does a little of everything. This was his fourth straight game at +9 or better.

However, in the end this was a discouraging game as it should have been an easy win with the Celtics missing three starters. They shredded the Cavs for 68 points in the first half before the Cavs got serious and held them to 41 in the second and 5 in overtime. The Celtics made 13 threes in the first half but only 3 in the second. It was a lucky win against a team missing three of its' starters and playing on the second night of a back-to-back on the road after a double OT game the night before.

Wade, Osman, and Rubio combined for 8 points and no assists in another 36-minute no show. The Celtics' bench outscored the Cavs' bench 50-23 and that was with their three best bench players starting.

After playing 47 minutes last night Jaylen Brown was just 1-for-7 on 3's. Marcus Smart, who played 39 minutes last night, was 4-for-17. The Cavs would have been smoked if this game was played tomorrow. This was definitely a schedule win.

If these teams meet in the playoffs with both teams healthy the Cavs have no chance. Add Tatum, Horford, and Robert Williams to the team Boston had tonight and it's not close.
Three words I never thought I’d read on this forum: “kudos to Bickerstaff.”

Kind of questioning whether it might be better to take Ricky out and play LeVert at pg with green at sg

I know it’s a meme around these parts to label any game as “must win,” but damn this is arguably the most important game of the season to date.

They need to come out and step on the throats of a tired Celtics team and keep pace in a tightening Eastern Conference.
Must win

There is truly nothing more humiliating than having your French corrected.
Having your French corrected by a German would probably be the worst.

Zut alors!

And I still don't believe that foul call at the end of regulation. I've seen that exact thing happen so often at the end of games & it never gets called.
To be fair, I didn’t think Mitchell got fouled either on the play before.
