Gloria arrested....

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think its that bad, ala Rueben Droughns - what is bad is that she kicked out the window and resisted arrest, probably feeling that she was above the law (speculation).

Let me correct this before I get heat - I don't think its bad that we should forgive her....it is bad driving under such an influence - in Rube's case, he only had a couple and blew .001 over the legal limit. Driving drunk should never be done - know your limits - driving after a dinner and one or two beers or glasses of wine is fine in my book - if tested, limit would be below what is allowed. But to cause such a commotion, especially when in the public eye, is an issue.

So we shouldnt give her crap despite driving 20MPH over the speed limit in a community speed zone, kicked out a police cars window and despite all this, SHE WAS DRUNK.

People get killed every day because they want to be jackasses and drink and drive, but its ok because she is Lebrons mom.

Im sorry, that is just stupid. How can you be so lenient on that? Thats pathetic...

Anybody that drives while under in the influence is an idiot. Putting other peoples lives in jeopordy because you wanted to drink is selfish.

Thank god she didnt kill anybody and you are on here saying, dont treat her bad because she gave us Lebron.

Moronic...

No one is condoning her actions. But there are things a man has you don't talk about: his momma, his wife, and his kids top the list.

Sorry, she asked for the spotlight....now she's got to live with it. Prancing around LJ's highschool games with signs antagonizing opponent's fans, strutting around Cav's games like a diva, belittling Q employees, and her constant sense of entitlement make this almost enjoyable. We were paying her rent when she was living in Section 8 housing while she was buying her kid a Hummer. She has no recollection of where she came from, no idea how blessed she really is, and she always thinks she deserves more. I guarantee you she was telling those guys that she was going to have them fired and that she felt the rules flat out didn't apply to her. She has always wanted part of Lebrons's spotlight, well she has a big part of it now....unfortunately for her(and Lebron) she has to take the good and the bad.
Hopefully this ugly incident will force her to look in the mirror and tone down down her act.

That's the only part of your post I can TOTALLY agree with. It's always concerned me that Gloria's influence on LBJ may one day pull him from small town Cleveland for the lights of L.A. or NYC, but I won't pretend to know how she's doing as a mother, etc.

She obviously has made some bad decisions in the past though. I cannot disagree. As you said, let's hope this incident is enough to force change.

What I don't understand is that with all the money she has now, why didn't she just hire a driver or a car to drive her if she wanted to drink?

The DUI is bad enough but it's her actions afterward that make it even a bigger problem and bring more unwanted attention to her and LeBron.

HPD, you seem like a good guy, I;m guessing you handled it better than she did.....then again maybe not. :chuckles:

It happened for me just a couple weeks ago. I wasnt tanked, and i wasnt gonna hurt anybody, I crossed over the middle line making a right turn on a single lane road, then this cop was in hot pursuit. People do that all the time, even when sober. I was barely over the legal limit, and I am not one to deny the charge. I was cooperative, its weird having the cuffs on ya. The cop took me home that night though. I handled it best I could.

If youre gonna drive, even if youve had only a couple, make sure all your cars lights are working, and you can drive perfectly. The cops will look for any little stupid shit to justify pulling you over. Ive learned my lesson. Just dont take the chance........too much stress. Get a cab or something. Plan ahead if youre gonna drink away from home.

Yall can judge me all you want, and say i was stupid etc, like you may judge Gloria, but I paraphrase an old Indian saying.....

Dont judge a person without walking a mile in their shoes....

To be blunt, this entire thread disgusts me. I didn't realize how many of you have never made a mistake in your lives.

Gloria needs to keep learn her lesson and take better steps in her second go-around. I'm glad somebody wasn't killed because when people drink and drive, terrible things happen. I have a friend who was severely injured in a DUI incident. That said, I'm not happy about Gloria's decision but I still hold compassion for her. I hold compassion for people in hopes that they can overcome the trouble in their lives. I'm disappointed but not casting stones.

There is a role for everyone in this scenario:

The court of law will CERTAINLY make sure she recieves a deterrence from doing this again. Penalties for a DUI are increasingly steepening every year.

Drug and alcohol programs will give her the support she needs in case she is trying to overcome some addiction issues.

Roger Brown has a role in being a judgmental prick whenever something unfortunate happens to athletes, because he doesn't have the ability to talk about the sport itself.

But their really shouldn't be a role for real sports fans in all of this.

Theres a difference between making a mistake and breaking the law and putting other peoples lives in your hands.

It makes me sick that people like you condone such actions.

I have had a family member nearly killed because of a drunk driver, the sad part is they didnt find him til a couple days later. A person hospitalized for over ten broken bones and a brand new car totalled.

But its ok to drink and drive..

no its not, i have no respect for anybody that has ever done it. Sorry, I dont care how sincere anybody is after they have done it. It should have never happened in the first place, if you drink, i dont care if it is one drink, DONT DRIVE. How hard of a concept is that?

all this talk about drinking and driving. the real topic should be what will this mean to the cav's chances of signing Lebron when his rookie contract is completed. maybe he doesn't want to play in a city that treats his mother so badly as to enforce traffic laws and then lock her up and such. who cares if a couple of people get run over. what about the important issues like free agency?

When reuben droughns got his DUI I sided with him. These things do happen, but her behavior after getting busted is what bugs me. I can just picture her freaking out on the cops and acting like her siht doesnt stink. She really is an embarassment.

Mac: I'm sorry for your families undue suffering; however, never did I condone her actions. I don't drink and drive. In fact, I don't even have a car. I simply said it is the role of the judiciary system to punish Gloria James, and they most certainly will. Your reading comprehension skills are lacking.

otter: your post is irrelevent. I'm sure Lebron is just as angry as anyone, if not more, at his mother for drinking and driving. The only thing out of all of this which would make him not want to come back to C-Town is if the public continues to make his mother some sort of black eye for the city and frachise, of which of course she is not a resident nor employee.

I'm beyond done with this thread. I again reiterate that dragging her back into the public eye is a terrible mistake by local journalists and Cavs fans everywhere. I judge and lambast you all with roughly the same intensity with which you judge and lambast her. Let it go if you want Lebron to stay loyal to this community.
