Gooden/JTerry Rumor

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LOL if this trade goes down, Terry would be starting for this team even before his plane landed at Cleveland Hopkins.

He possibly would be the ideal PG for this team as his scoring mentality is Ok with Hughes and James being good distributors. He can penetrate, shoot the 3, not a great passer but will find the open man, and most importantly is an average defender which is big upgrade lol.

Makes sense from a Dallas perspective as they must want to start getting more minutes for Harris and Daniels with Stackhouse back from injury as well. Drew would fit in nice with that team as he can run the floor. He would be a nice fit with Dirk actually when Dampier is lost. LOL at a few years the Mavs might be starting the "future" Cavs frontline of Drew and Diop

I'll miss Drew though unlike some, for his lack of "mentality" :) he hustled on the boards and if AV doesn't live up to what we hope, we could be in trouble on the glass with our geezer frontcourt of Marshall and Henderson alongside Z. In addition Drew got us some key baskets this year w/o having any plays called for him. That being said if Dallas is willing to do this then it needs to be done. If Terry is here then we probably need to ditch Jones as Snow while he has trouble guarding anybody with a hint of quickness seems to be our best defender against certain SG's who bully Hughes around

this sounds to good to be true so it wont happen guys. sorry to crush your hopes but this isnt going down.

???????????

Evans is worse than both Marshall and AV.

If I were shopping Drew, I would go to Boston. Drew and Damon for Mark Blount and Marcus Banks..

rumor or not this thread brought a smile to my face. i am now clicking my heals and wishing it to happen.

Terry would start immediately here....I just don't see us getting him. I wouldn't be shocked to see Derek Fisher come here. He is a better shooter than DJ, better PG than DJ, better teammate than DJ....AND best of all - he plays defense.

Since when is Anderson ready to start in the NBA?

I know he wasnt near ready last year, did he suddenly improve so much with a seperated shoulder that he is ready for 35 minutes a night? And exactly who is going to back himup when he gets in foul trouble? A Henderson for 20+ a night?

No thank you..

Drew may be inconsistant, but trading big for small is only going to compound our problems..

The only way i do this trade is if we get Diop back in return, but either way...Anderson is not ready to start.

i would guess Marshall starts and AV comes off the bench

Again Mac, nobody thinks AV should start. Secondly, no way in hell do we back track and bring in Diop the flop.

cavincali, what's with the negativity, man. we need positive vibes.

we are the perfect team for jason terry. terry is not a point guard, he is an undersized shooting guard who does not play defense. but we have Lebron who can distrbute the ball and get assists, so we don't need a classic point guard per se. terry can camp on the three point arc and wait for kick outs from Lebron and hughes. we put in snow when we need defense and terry when we need hoops.

terry was a mediocre shooter, under 40% from three point land when he was with the hawks. since he joined dallas, his three point percentage is up over 40%. we have other first options on offense to keep him open.

but really. let's be serious. from dallas' perspective, this trade makes no sense. why would they trade a starter for someone who does not really upgrade them in the front court? josh howard is getting one less rebound per game than gooden plenty while scoring four more points, getting one more assist and one more steal. howard is younger and has more playoff experience. howard can't be disappointing the mav's, as his scoring, assists and rebounds are all career highs. gooden's performance has not been enough to send howard to the bench and dallas has a decent back up in keith van horn. with terry gone, the mav's would have to start marquis daniels (no way they would expect damon jones to start). that would leave them with jones coming off the bench. so they don't improve at any position and weaken themselves at guard? who starts in terry's place? not marquis daniels who has missed the last couple of games with injury and has no range on his shot. not darryl armstrong or jerry stackhouse who are to old to play long minutes every night. not adrian griffin, who has knee problems that limit his mobility and restrict his minutes. not avery johnson who is too busy looking fine in his suits. why waste our time considering unrealistic trades for jason terry. if we are going to be absurd, lets send damon jones somewhere for macgrady, or kobe or dwayne wade.

In that thread I created on the Mavs board, most guys said this won't happen unless Dallas has another deal in the works to trade Dampier or Van Horn. With Van Horn's $15 million coming off the books this summer I'd have to think they'd move him to a team looking to rebuild. A lot of Mavs fans agreed that Gooden is a way better backup for Dirk than Van Horn, so it would help them in that sense. Jones gives them a shooter to replace Terry and a veteran to step in if Harris ever struggles. In that sense, I can see Dallas doing it.

This is what I see Dallas getting from the deal :

* They were not looking to resign the off contract Terry as to allow more time for talented second year player Devin Harris, as well as Marquis Daniels.

* Getting a decent player for Terry in return is a bonus (Gooden), which if fails is also off contract and can also be off the books next season.

* Van Horn is in his last year of his ridiculous deal, opening up a rotation spot for another forward. Drew Gooden can step right in as their 6th man.

* In my trade Damon Jones is also included. Gives Dallas a shooter they lack after moving Terry, and an experienced guard to combine with the young Harris and Daniels.
